Just received the midnight blue tint. I'm not understanding how to do this. Lie down and apply? Need some directions from someone who has done this before. HELP

Just put it on like you would mascara but make sure you don't get it in the eye Smile
Keep on for however long the instructions say. When I do mine I just apply it like mascara and go about my business as I normally would while it dries, eyes open and blinking as you do!

The 1000 Hour comes with two sets of instructions (or mine did anyway) - instructions for when you use it on someone and instructions for when you use it on yourself. Up until last time (a few days ago) I have always used the "instructions when you use it on someone" on myself and tinted lashes one eye at a time (i.e. one eye closed, then wash off and do the other eye). This is very tedious (and perhaps even a bit dangerous if you haven't done it before) but I find that it gives glossier results because I can really slather the tint on the lashes (with cotton pads under my eyes to absorb any excess of course!). The other set of instruction is much easier and faster to do. Put some vaseline around your eye area (very close to the lash line) and also put some cotton pads under your eyes. Then apply as you do mascara and wash off after 10 minutes. As I said I did this just the other day and it worked well but not as well as my previous attempts IMO.

I did it last night and I'm not impressed. How do you guys use 10 drops? There's no dropper to use so I really wasn't sure. And the blue stuff when mixed, should it be thick or thin? How much blue stuff do you all use, dime size, pea size?
I did use a mascara wand, but just didn't get close enough to the roots of the top lashes so they are not as dark as I wanted.

I didn't buy this yet but was considering it, however, I was wondering how on earth would you apply vaseline near your eye without touching your eyelashes. Confused

I use one of those pointy q-tips. Dove makes them - they're also very good for applying wet eyeshadow as a liner Wink

The bottle in my kit comes with an orifice reducer so it's easy to get drops out at a time. Yours doesn't? I just squeeze out about a centimeter and a half of the tint and then mix it in with the liquid till it's the consistency I want (sometimes adding more drops or more tint if needed). I like the consistency of mine to be not runny but also not too thick - enough for it to be easily spread on the lashes without dripping off.

Well, I will try it again tonight since I wasn't that impressed. I hope it comes out darker and glossier!

So here goes my "detailed" review for the 1000 hours lashtint in Midnight Blue/Black:
Okay, so I have to say that I don't notice a huge difference in my eyelashes, but I do notice a slight difference. However, it was my first time ever having my eyelashes tinted, so maybe next time it will be more noticable. Has anyone else found that the more they tint their lashes, the better they look?
I do have to say that my mascara does look better and my lashes do look longer, so I think I will buy this product again. I was sooo scared to put it on at first, but it did not hurt one bit. I even got a few dabs here and there of the dye on my skin, but I just used a q-tip dipped in vaseline to remove it right away, and I felt no pain.

The only thing that was slightly confusing was mixing up the dye. The dropper of liquid doesn’t work well to proportionally pour out individual droplets, so I ended up mixing two batches of the dye…a thicker one and a more liquid one and then mixed them together to put on my lashes. I also am not sure if I did the process correctly, but here is what I did:
I took a shower, and made sure I had no make-up on my face. I let my lashes fully dry out after the shower and used a q-tip to remove any natural oils from my lashes/skin. Then I put on the Vaseline all around my eye. I used one of those pointy q-tip make-up applicators to apply the Vaseline to the base of my lashlines. Then I used a clean q-tip to go over my actual lashes just in case I got a tiny bit of Vaseline on them.. I made sure to have slightly dampened cotton balls, saline solution, dry cotton balls, and the qtips with Vaseline prepared in case of any accidents. I also had two types of brushes to use to apply the dye. I used a thoroughly cleansed mascara wand, which was a thin one, from the Revlon Tinting Mascara. I also had a small, thick eye shadow type brush. Prior to putting on the dye I was trying to use thin strands of cotton balls to put under my eye as a protectant, but I couldn’t get them to stay. Although, I did notice that they stretched my lashes out to the full extent, so maybe next time when I have more time to work on my lashes I will try doing this as I apply the dye.

So next using the mascara wand I applied the dye to my bottom lashes first, then to my top ones. For the tops I coated both sides. During the whole process I kept putting more dye on (using both the mascara wand and the eyeshadow brush), so I am wondering if I was not supposed to do this…or does it not matter??????????
Anyway, when it was time to take it off (I think I had it on for about 20 minutes), I used the dampened cotton balls to wipe the lashes. Then after doing that I rinsed my eyes with cool water for about 30 seconds, then I used baby shampoo around my eyes and a teeny bit on my lashes to get all the dye off. Then I patted them dry and put the ardell on them (as I am still waiting for my Lucia to arrive). I have come to notice that if I put the ardell on my bottom lashes and let it dry, then apply mascara my lashes seem to look better.

Like I said my lashes do look slightly longer, but I don’t really notice that they look glossier. Although, everyone raves about the Midnight Blue/Black, I am wondering if anyone has tried the ebony black? I really wanna know how that one looks…or if maybe it will work better for my eyes (I have dark lashes already). It was also weird seeing those little blonde hairs on the tips of my lashes. I realized that since I am not sure where those tips begin at, I may have not got them fully coated during the process. I also would like to try doing the salon way( lying down), but I am way too scared…I practiced lying down and closed one eye and imagined putting the stuff…it seemed wayyyyy to dangerous, so I have no idea how Masby does it.

I really wanna try dying my lashes again today, esp. since I feel I have a better hang of it…does anybody know if that is safe to do?or is that a bad idea??? Also, right now my eyelashes are not super healthy seeming, as a few have fallen out. But once they grow back to their usual thickness maybe the product will work better.
I can’t wait to get my Lucia, cause I am sure once my lashes get healthier and thicker…they will tint much better. Also, I have had a lack of sleep lately so my eyes (esp. underneath) were puffy yesterday. Could this have affected the tint job? Also, I am wondering would a thicker type of mascara wand worked better?

Hi everyone! I have been happily lurking for awhile, and I finally have something to share! (This is a great place, btw, I have learned so much!)

I just recieved my 1000 hrs lash tint in ebony black in the mail today all the way from New Zealand (I just couldn't resist after carekate's glowing reviews) and applied it a few hours ago. It is gorgeous! i feel like a ROCK star! My lashes are naturally dark brown, but I wanted darker and I hate wearing mascara on my lower ones.

KellyAlanaW: I was gonna get midnight blue/black, but accidentally ordered the ebony and I am very happy with the color and the darkness. I have never tried the other, so I have no comparison, though.

First I washed my face and removed make-up, and carefully wiped some witch hazel over my lashes to get rid of excess oils, etc.

I mixed up the goopy creme and drops to the same consistancy as hair-dye, then put some vaseline on the back of two pieces of paper towel (cut vaguely in a shape to fit under my eyes). They stuck quite nicely, and didn't get any vaseline on my lashes. Then, with a Q-tip I carefully put vaseline on my upper lids.

I then used the enclosed applicator to glop as much on as much as possible. I found that any extra drips were easy to remove with a Q-tip and vaseline. I waited a minute and took the excess off.

It did sting a bit, but I prepared myself from reading others' comments, so the shock wasn't overwhelming.

After I rinsed (just with water), the sting went away and I am happy with my new sexy mascara-free lashes. They actually look fuller and conditioned, thanks everyone for the idea!

bLISSGIRL-THANKS FOR UR RESPONSE...HMMM...I wish my experience made my eyelashes turn out as noticable as yours. Maybe I will try the ebony black, but first I wanna try one more tint with my midnight blue just to see if it works any better the second time around. Although, the kit is only $20.00, considering all the money I have spent lately on clothes, beauty products, etc., I am a little scared Laughing ...oh well...what fun would life be if we deprivied ourselves...anyway thanks for sharing your experience...at least I know that even with dark lashes tinting can still be effective and dramatic....

Amnis-
I was going to take pictures of before and afters, however I figured whether or not it did change my lashes, the effect wouldn't be so extreme that it would be obvious on camera. Maybe next time if it seems to work wayyy better for me, then I will take pics. However, the pics I am going to post are what I want I hope my eyelashes will look like with the help of tinting, Lucia, Ardell, and possibly perming. I find curling my lashes and using mascara can be time consuming and annoying. Somedays I have good eyelash days, and other times I have horrible ones...These pics are on a good eyelash day using an eyelash curler and some mascara...Image

So, if anyone has any tips or knows of products or can advise that perming, tinting, etc. would help me achieve these lashes that would be great.... Smile

KellyAlana,

First off, you're gorgeous!! From the looks of your pics, you don't need any eyelash growth!! At first I thought you were wearing false eyelashes! If I had your lashes I would be soooo happy. Laughing

Aww...thank you...lol...yea I love my lashes too on a good eyelash day...like I said oddly, my eyelashes only work with me sometimes, so trust me when I have not curled them, and have no mascara on..they don't look so nice...or when I try to curl them sometimes and they refuse to curl...or when my mascara just wants to clump...which is why I am desperate to find a solution so that they are always nice looking...plus one day I accidently stepped on my eyelash curler and after I thought I had rebent it back into shape, I attempted to use it...BIG MISTAKE...it clipped my inner lashes off on my right eye and my outer lashes off my left eye...now they are growing back, but they are not as long or thick as the rest...so I need some goodies to get them back to health

To Kelly Alana, you really have nice pretty lashes. I know what you mean about bad eyelash days. I'm Asian and curl my lashes everyday, it can be so time consuming getting your lashes just right, but for me it makes the difference between feeling pretty or not.

yoshko..exactly...when I have a good eyelash day it relates to me have a good eye day...which makes me feel pretty, but when I am having a bad eyelash day i feel yucky...and ugly...like today my left eye has some type of infection, so the lids are all puffy and dry...everyone at work didn't notice it til I pointed it out, but I feel so gross and ugly... Sad Mad

also, thanks for the compliment on my lashes Smile

That translates to "one inch" for all of us backward Americans! Wink One inch of colorant to 10 drops of developer.

HOWEVER...

We have all discovered that you can safely cut in half the amount you need to use to tint the lashes on both eyes and still have a lot of the dye mixture left over. By using half the normal amount (i.e.: ½ inch of colorant to 5 drops of developer) each time you tint your lashes, you’ll be able to get many more uses from each kit before you’ll need to order another one! Smile

Sorry to correct, but that is roughly half an inch (maybe a teensy bit more, ok, it's exactly 0.59 inches - I'm such a geek!) Razz

Agree with Carrie - there's no need to use as much tint as the instructions say Wink Although, I do use more developer than half what is prescribed.

That's okay, you know how backward Americans are when it comes to the metric system! Razz

But I could have sworn that my instructions from the kit quoted some metric measurement, then had "one inch" in parantheses... Think I know I didn't just pull that number out of my...hat!

I honestly can’t remember if anyone tried the brown tint, because I think the most popular shade/s were the blue/black (“midnight blue”) and the black, but if anyone tried the brown version, I’m guessing you’d be able to find out about in somwhere this thread: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=7546&highlight=1000+hours

Has anyone tried to use Unpetroleum instead of Vaseline when preping for a lash tint? I'd rather not use petroleum products when I can avoid them, but I don't want to end up looking like a racoon! Embarassed

I used lipbalm instead of vasaline when I was dying my lashes, also Dr Hauschka eyebalm worked well in preventing any smudges Very Happy
