| I use sunscreen on it but the ONLY place I have dry flaky, red skin skin is on my nose. I have tried not using my Proheal and hydra cool on it and I wash it with Cetaphil and DR H CC. I have tried emu oil, jojoba oil, lotions, vaseline and a prescription cortisone cream my derm said to use on it. Still there and peeling. Any other ideas? |

Hi Annie,
That is a problem I tend to experience with my nose.. only it is always red. But seriously, I have the flaky skin all over my nose like it is dry but it actually is oily. A beautician told me once that it was because the cream I was using was suffocating my skin and when the skin cannot breathe it can have this dry/flaky/oily reaction.
She had me buy a couple of Thalgo delicate skin products (which is what they sold) and they worked quite well (calmed my skin down and not a heavy cream). I only gave them up because the fragrance seemed a bit too much for me. The products were Pure Delicacy Milk Cleanser (this really was a nice product).. the moisturiser was creme delicate (sensitive day cream)but I cannot find it here on EDS.
The only other thing that worked for me long term (and over different seasons) has been Epidermx (twice a week on my nose area) and the Epiderm Dermabutter. I stopped using Epiderm products about a month ago (after a year I was bored and started trying other stuff I had here) and my skin is TERRIBLE. Seriously, it is the worst it has been in about 18 months and I have just gone back to my old routine since yesterday. |

| So the exfoliation didn't make it worse, just helped remove the dead skin. Thanks, I will have to try both the Epidermx and Thalgo. |

| glad that bit helped at least! Good luck with the other products! Try and get some samples. EDS might be able to help you out with the Thalgo ones and I think there are sample pots of Epidermx sold by Epiderm on Ebay. I dont think they do Dermabutter samples but that stuff is so nice I doubt you would be disappointed with a full jar even. |

Sorry, I really don’t know what to tell you. I get red flaky patches around my nostril area that is caused either by excessive snoot-blowing during our lovely Cedar Fever season – thank God for those “Puffs Plus” and “Kleenex with Lotion” tissues! – or else it happens because I used too strong of a product on that area and caused it to react – it’s really the only place on my face that shows any sensitivity to too harsh exfoliants or peels. But the thing that always clears it right up for me in a couple of days is applying a bit of (non-Rx) hydrocortisone cream to the area twice daily....
This probably falls under the category of “TMI,” but I’ve already confessed this on the forum so it’s not like it’s a secret: I suffer from EXTREMELY dry skin on my lower legs to the point where I get these small, red, scaly patches that look almost like ringworm or dermatitus. In fact, just this past weekend I had one that was worse than usual and decided to try a bit of pure lanolin on it and as of this morning, the spot has almost completely healed so that the area returned to looking like “normal skin.” I wonder if a bit of lanolin would help you? Pure lanolin (with no other ingredients) is a bit hard to find at local stores, but I have a huge jar of 100% pure lanolin that ordered recently so if you PM me with your mailing address, I’ll “decent” a little bit of it and put it in a small jar and mail it to you. |

That would be a huge help. You and I are in the same area so it could be allergic reation. My son in college still gets those patches during cedar fever, almost like a ringworm and the doc gives him a meth-pak (cortisone/prednisone combo w/ something else?)
to take orally for the croup cough and skin reaction and it does help. Thanks again. |
