I think I may be the only person who likes Clinique's Total Turnaround cream. It's the only Clinique product I can stand so even if it's not as moisturizing as I'd like. I looked into the ingredients and low and behold there was our old friend salicylic acid plus Glucosamine (Matrixyl) and Arginine. I susbpect the polyacrylaide and Nylon-12 are what people have a reaction to.
I've been toying with making a DIY version of this.
Below is the full ingredient list of the product:
1 water(aqua purificata) purified,
2 cyclomethicone, (silicon oil)
3 dimethicone, (silicon oil)
4 butylene glycol, (humectant)
5 polysilicone-11, (silicone elastomer powder)
6 squalane, (shark liver oil as an emollient base - gives a non-greasy feel)
peg-8, (Surfactant)
ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/vp copolymer, (thickener)
7 triticum vulgare(wheat) germ extract, (antioxdent)
mixed soya phospholipids, (soy extracts basically)
8 hordeum vulgare(barley) extract,
salvia officinalis(sage) powder,
palmitoyl pentapeptide-3, (Matrixyl: Glucosamine)
9 sodium hyaluronate, (Lubricant, similar to synovial fluid, a substance that occurs naturally in the joints)
10 acetyl glucosamine, (Hyaluronic acid substitute? Another joint medicine)
11 caffeine,
12 tocopheryl acetate, (Vitamin E)
potassium cholesterol sulfate, (Emollient Sunscreen Powder)
linoleic acid, (flax seed extract)
arginine, (Amino acids from the fig tree used healing skin and detoxifying)
salicylic acid, (exfoliant,keratolytic (peeling agent)
13 cholesterol,
14 polysorbate 20, (emulsifier)
polyacrylaide, (couldn't get a good answer on this)
nylon-12, (couldn't get a good answer on this)
c13-14 isoparaffin (solvent)
silica, (excipient)
15 glycerin (humectant)
laureth-7, (solvent)
16 carbomer, xanthan gum, (thickeners)
17 phenoxyethanol, (preservative)
18 methylparaben, (preservative)
19 ethylparaben, (preservative)
20 propylparaben, (preservative)
21 butylparaben, osubutylparaben, (preservative)
22 mica,
23 titanium dioxide(ci 77891) [iln 22086]
Even if I don't do a DIY version, the research was fun >; ) |

I thought glucosamine and chondraitin were for building strong joints and taken internally? Glucosamine is not Matrixyl. Matrixyl is palmitoyl pentapeptide.
What could gluc. and chond. do for your skin topically I wonder? |
