I found witch hazel from CVS (their brand) and the ingredients are listed as:
Ingredients
Active Ingredients
Witch Hazel 86%
Inactive Ingredients
Alcohol 14% By Volume
Is this what everyone is using or should I be looking for *pure* witch hazel? Where does everyone get theirs from? I'm tired of having to buy things online b/c I hate waiting! I'm needing it to make a batch of tendskin for my bf to try.
Unfortunately I'm very allergic to aspirin so I can't share in the joys of this recipe or the aspirin mask I'll be wearing gloves and probably a mask just to make this for him! |

The witch hazel I get is %100 pure witch hazel and I buy it from the local chemists for about £1 a bottle. |

I think 100% pure is recommended b/c it doesn't contain alcohol, which could be drying. I'm OK with the drug store brand with alcohol because I'm combo (normal/oily) and not prone to drying.
My deepest sympathies on the aspirin allergy... I've become addicted to aspirin masks since joining this forum!

Thanks but since the tendskin recipe calls for 70% alcohol, would it really matter if I bought the store brand that contains part alcohol? Could I just use slightly less of the 70% alcohol in the recipe?
I'd say his skin is normal with a slightly oily T-zone so I think he'll be okay. He just gets a lot of ingrown hairs on his face when he shaves so I'm hoping this will help him out. I'm sure he'll look at me like I'm crazy when I give it to him, but he does that all the time anyway |

Hi TAMgirl99 -
I agree that since the recipe calls for alcohol anyway, and he's t-zone oily (me, too), then you can go ahead and use the drug store witch hazel. Just cut down on the alcohol portion a bit.
Men LOVE to be pampered. He'll pretend he thinks it's crazy but he's really thinking, "boy, I've got it good!" |

lol. Thanks eSquire but I already made the homemade tendskin last night with the CVS brand containing 14% alcohol. I just adjusted the quantities a bit to even out the alcohol content. Hopefully it will work just as well. If not, I'll definitely be trying this one in my next batch!
My bf was going to use it last night after his shower since he currently has a few red marks from shaving. I can't wait to see if he's had any improvement! You know, I really thought he was going to think I was crazy, but he told me that if I found him something that would keep him from getting razor burn on his neck then it would be a miracle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! If it works for him then maybe he'll have a little more faith in the "beauty forum" I'm always telling him about. |

This may be a stupid question...but what exactly does witch hazel do to your skin? Is it good for eliminating pimples or tighting pores? |
