Anyone know how to get rid of boils and carbuncles? More importantly, is there something I can do to prevent them? I have what I think is a carbuncle. My aunt said to use the membrane of an egg, lay it on the boil and it draws out the pus overnight. I did that and it drained! I have no idea how it works though.

But the outer edges of the boil/carbuncle are still very hard. At least I can sit down now. I can keep using the egg. But do you know of another treatment?

I searched the forum for "carbuncle" and received no results. A search for boil or boils turned up TOO many results but none that seemed relevant.

Thanks!

I'd love to know a little more about using the "membrane" of the egg... how exactly did you do this?

I used to get these ALL the time when I was living in Africa. The only thing that ever helped (and I don't know how much it helped, because they still took a long time to heal) was warm/hot compresses.

Also, where are you getting them? I mostly got them on my scalp, and in my armpits. I once got one on my forearm.

I noticed that the ones in my armpits were irritated and more frequent when I used this one deodorant. I switched to a very different product after that and had less problems--but the weather also became colder. But, you might want to consider whether there are products you're using that might be aggravating the problem.

Best of luck. I know how miserable these can be and really empathize with you.

Hi,

The boil is "down under." Eep! When you crack open an egg, you'll see a white membrane that looks like a bubble. It must be an air pocket or something. Rinse out the shell and gently pull off that membrane. You may have to work at it to get it away from the shell w/o tearing it too much. You just need a piece big enough to cover the head of the boil. Just before bedtime, lay the shinier side of the membrane over the head of the boil. When I did it, the boil drained overnight.

What concerns me is that I've gotten 3 boils in a year. That's a lot for me.
