| I'm getting lazy in my old age and don't like the feel of foundation on my skin anymore. I would just like to use a nice concealer to cover up the redness around my nose, the tiny spidey veins on my cheeks, and the odd pimple. I've tried a few, rimmel, almay, nyc, covergirl, but they aren't moisturizing enough for my skin. Most of these have been sticks, do you think the liquid concealers would be more moisturising? Anyone have any ideas of a moisturizing concealer with great coverage? Thanks! |

I too prefer to just wear a little concealer and no foundation. MAC Studio Finnish is really good at covering up any redness and the lasting power is good to. A little pot has lasted me well over a year and I use it every day.
I have tried cheaper brands or concealer and this one is by far the best, I personally am not a big fan of liquid concealers. |

I've actually found a liquid concealer that I love! And I'm VERY hard to match. It's Mary Kay's full coverage foundation, which is for dry to normal skin. I use the foundation as a concealer because I've had a heck of a time finding good color matches (My skin is very golden). When I found a color that worked, I stuck with it. Because it's full coverage, it covers rather well.
You can probably find a MK consultant near you to get a sample.
Best,
Too |

I really love Laura Macier Secret Camouglage. It is pretty expensive but only a small amount is needed. I think it will last me a very long time. It comes in a two-colours combination, one darker and one lighter skin tone. Can always play with it to get the exact colour I want. However, I don't think its moisterizing and maybe actually a bit dry. Supposely, dryer concealer stays on the skin longer, doesn't move or wear off. I don't think you can apply LM Secret Camouglage underneath your eyes without adding on some eye cream.
Also, I seem to remember LM Secret Camouglage has another version (looked like liquid/gel/cream based). You can go to LM's counter and try it out |

My favorite for this is Chanel Quick Cover in Candlelight. (I'm olive but on the light side with a bit of the yellow undertone to my skin.) This is wonderful stuff. Not drying, not oily and perfect coverage. Just enough to erase any redness, slight blemishes but not heavy looking.
If I think I'm going to be doing some heavy activity, I also like the Revlon ColorFast concealer. It's a thinner consistency but will stay put.
To make fine lines "disappear" in photos etc., I like to use the Touche Eclat from YSL over the Chanel on my crow's feet, nasolabial lines, etc. It's light pink and basically a reflecting agent. Makes for nice photos but don't overdo it or you'll look ghost-like.
By the way, I get both the Chanel and the YSL on ebay for about 1/2 the dept. store cost. |

If you're looking for an inexpensive drugstore brand to experiment with, I've found that I really like some of Revlon's concealers.
I have the New Complexion concealer as well as the Age Defying concealer. Both come in little pans with flip top lids.
I found the texture neither too dry nor too oily. However the colour selection is limited, so this might give you trouble. |

Hi moosette - I can sympathize with your attitude about foundation. I'm 53 and I've NEVER liked the look or feel of foundation on my face. Since I have a few freckles, it's always been a challenge -- they show through and so I could never get a "natural" look. I envy friends who can pull it off -- they truly look better with it. But I've bought countless brands and types and always ended up tossing them. And now that I'm older, foundation ages my appearance! It accentuates fine (or deep, I suppose) lines and dryness, or if it's moisturizing, looks oily. Yuck!!!
So since my skin condition is very good, I look best with just a dab of concealer here and there, mainly on the inner corners of my eye area, around the lobes of my nostrils, etc., and I've just bought my third Clinique (I know, some people on this forum absolutely hate the brand) Airbrush Concealer in 04 Neutral Fair. It's pen-shaped with a built-in brush. It's lightweight but covers great without being cakey, and doesn't look dry or oily -- just right. It also doesn't sink into lines the way others have. I use my fingers or a Taklon brush to blend it in.
BTW, I've used Laura Mercier, Trish McEvoy, Lancome, Revlon etc. and so far, the Clinique is superior to those.
Also, to give my face a more "finished", perfected look, I dust it with a bit of T.LeClerc loose powder in Camille (recommended to me by Bad Bird, resident sunscreen guru). This is the very best powder I've ever used! Like foundation, I've tossed many face powders as well. |

i too really like the clinique airbrush concealer. it is really easy to apply, and covers well (i use it under my eyes - i have the dark circles that run in my mother's family), and was one of the few concealers i have tried that did not need to be accompanied by foundation.
i tried it because of the ysl touche eclat. i had been tempted to buy that for ages, but when i went to the counter to have a look at it, the sales assistant put on so much, it looked like she had used a trowel, and i looked like frankenstein. then, instead of saying "oops, i put on too much , let me fix that for you" she says "there, doesn't that look better". i asked for some make up remover, and was unable to approach the ysl counter again for some time. anyway, one day i thought i would try the cheaper clinique one, and if i got the hang of the texture, i would invest in the ysl product. i am very happy with the clinique though. |
