Hi guys - my OH has just been made redundant from his job - it was pretty much out of the blue. Just before Xmas too.
I have no idea how we are going to manage if he doesn't find another job very quickly - he's a good man and I know he'll do his best and will get work as soon as he can doing whatever till he can get a post doing what he wants to do. In the meantime though it doesn't stop me worrying how we are going to manage. My wages aren't enough to keep our heads above water even if I can do more hours.

Feeling decidedly un-christmassy. Only letting off steam here as I want to be as suppostive as possible to him - so having a moan/pity party here. Sorry guys!

Sad

Lucia, my heart goes out to you. As you already know, this, too, shall pass. It's getting through the waiting that's the worst part.

I always find that the waiting part is made easier by having a plan. Keeps the mind busy with productive projects.

Call the mortgage and credit card companies immediately and ask for forbearances.

Make sure his benefits remain in tact for at least a little while.

Narrow, refine, or omit altogether your Christmas shopping list. You need to think about you and your husband, and friends and family will understand.

Things like that....

Cherish that you have each other and your health. The pressures of the world can never touch you if you have each other.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know how you are managing and when you need more support.

LandB - Thanks for your kind and wise words. My family have been great and are being as supportive as they can be.
I don't have children but I do have two horses - both I rescued and rehabbed - one would cetainly be dead if I hadn't have had her - It sounds selfish but I'm so scared of losing them, it'd be like losing a family member. My family have offered to buy me hay and feed for them for Xmas which is a relief - will hopefully give us some breathing space.
There's never a good time to have this happen but at least in the summer everything seems easier (certainly is with the horses).

My poor husband is such a good man I feel bad the company have treated him like this - he worked his butt off for them and they let him go right before Xmas.....

Thanks again.

Lucia this sucks big time Sad . The company I work for are always laying people off, but they make a point not to do it in December (how humane Rolling Eyes ). In any case, I hope he got a severance package with benefits continuance to at least see you over the holidays.
The only consolation I can offer is, that people I know that have been laid off (from my company) all tell me it was the best thing that ever happened to them. Some started their own businesses and others got jobs closer to their homes, or just better jobs. Always remember when one door closes, another one opens.

As someone who has lost more than one job at this happy time of year, I know it seems overwhelming. Try and be positive and know that things always seem to have a way of working out. I have always been able to hang on to the things that are important, just be strong and you will make it. Hope it helps a little.

Lucia,

That sucks!! Doesn't the UK have any assistance for when you get laid off?
In Canada we get employment insurance. You get laid off, wait 2 weeks and then they give you a check every 2 weeks to help you out. I've been laid off a couple times and taken advantage of it. I pay into it, might as well get something out of it too!

My thoughts are with you. Hopefully Gucci can help him out finding a job. It sounds like you have a supportive family and I'm sure they'll help you guys out if you need it.

Lucia, I rescued 2 racing greyhounds and one of them was quite ill, so I understand the love you have for your horses and your sense of responsibility for them. Your family is superb for helping with their care during this hopefully brief period of adjustment.

You sound like a deeply caring person. Only good things will happen to you and your husband, I promise.

Thanks for all your encouragement and kind words everyone - it really helps knowing people are thinking about you. Smile

We have to wait till next week to find out about severence (nice of them to keep us in limbo!). Hopefully it'll tide us over the holidays and my hubby will get a job early in the New Year. Bless him he hates not working - he's gone mad around the house and garden tidying (Very out of character bless him!! Very Happy ), but he hates not being busy.
Still New year New start I guess!

Everyone keeps telling me that something good is going to happen from this so I guess there must be soem truth in it.

Thanks again - you're all lovely - I mean it!

Hi. I feel for your situation. At Christmas time it is hard for a lot of people. I do not have the spirit at all this year. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone.
I hope your husband gets a job real real soon! Razz

Oh Lucia, I really feel for you. Life's something, eh?

About a month ago my family's home burnt and we lost everything (with the exception of the few things I had at school). My heart breaks when I think of all the sentimental things we lost! And, oooh, the beautiful antiques (which comprised most of our possessions)!... This has really made me re-evaluate life's meaning and assess where I want to be and what I want to do with my own. I am also dealing with the end of a relationship (it has not ended on negative terms... just bad timing) and I'm very surprised at how I am reacting to it (i.e., I didn't realize how strong my feelings are which is making the act of moving on harder than I ever imagined). I am discovering that knowing that someone has feelings for you but isn't capable of being responsible for you (due to the rest of his life's demands) is worse than knowing someone has lost interest in you altogether. Crying or Very sad

Anyway, the point I would like to make is (and I have always been a firm believer in this idea) that everything happens for a reason. When you don't know that reason, it's incredibily hard to accept. But, like I tell myself, have faith.

I wish the best for you and your husband. Please don't forget that you have each other and that things WILL be better soon.

Andrea38 - Thanks for your thoughts,it's hard isn't it when you are feeling decidedly un-festive - there's so much expectation at this time of year makes any difficulty feel much worse. Thanks to you too amnis - so sorry about your home and relationship - losing all your things must have been so hard. Sad

Things, as a song once said, can only get better I guess!

Thanks again you guys, your support means a lot.

Gucci has been lovely and contacted her offices in our area, so hopefully something will come of that. On a good note, my OH has two interviews next week so we are keeping everything crossed.
Will let you know how he goes - hope he gets something soon - I know he must feel the rejection and being rejected from any potential job will feel harder than it would normally I'm sure.(Does that make sense? - I guess you know what I mean - grammar a bit dodgy amd so tired at the moment.)

Lucia just wanted to say the main thing is that you both have each other.
Christmas to me is not about the preasents or money but being with loved ones, in fact the best Christmas I ever had was with my other half, sat on a wall sharing a bag of fries from the takeaway!!
Good luck for the interviews Smile

Thanks for that.

You're absolutely right - its not about the commercialism it's about being with the people you care about and who care about you. I've really found out who my real friends are recently, and made some new ones too!
LandB - Thankyou, I really appreciate it.
Happy Christmas to you all - have a good one.
