After waxing facial hair on chin and cheeks, my skin was gloriously soft with no coarse hairs. I applied almond oil to remove the wax residue because the azulene really seems to clogs my pores. The next morning there was surface milia where the hairs were removed. By removing the hairs did I cause a large pore that would basically fill with pus everytime I wax? I have tried everything to remove my hair- even laser, but I have coarse red hairs (which the doctor told me later are almost impossible to remove- there is not enough melanin pigment in the follicle to attract the laser and DIE!!)so waxing is my last hope!! unless I want to shave everyday! Sad What should I use to remove the wax residue- (I used Sally Hansen wax strips) and what should I do or not do to my skin postwaxing???

Hello and welcome!

This happened to a friend of mine after having her chin/jawline waxed for the first time. She too was miffed. We never really did find an answer other than her skin became irritated and produced a dermatitis reaction. Her condition did clear up in about 5 days. Hopefully others will chime in here based on their experiences. Not sure what you meant about your large pore being clogged with wax..? I would think that properly exfoliating would remedy this. Good luck!!

Maybe it's not wise to apply oil to facial skin after waxing, considering what you experienced. After all, the procedure also removed the outermost layer of skin, leaving it exposed and vulnerable. Perhaps next time, you should try a gentle, creamy cleanser afterwards to remove any wax residue, and then apply a very thin film of antibiotic ointment on the waxed areas to help prevent any pustules from forming.

Thank you sooooo much for replying! I will try a gentle cleanser next time. I don't know why I had it in my head that wax residue needs to be removed with oil. Do you think a mineral oil based antibiotic ointment would work, or would that clog the open pores also?? Thank you for your input you guys!! Anymore tips?

Hi Laurabeth!

I've experienced the same as you...not fun at all. I actually stopped waxing my face cause in the end I just didn't feel it was worth the damage it did to my skin - by the time the milia and redness was better it was getting time for another wax... pest or cholera sort of situation. My hair is soft, but long - and dark. I've got a few bristley ones on my jawline but I nip them out with a tweezer these days. I've gone through IPL treatment, but my facial hair is too fine for it to work well. IPL /laser works on thicker hair.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was, I heard that it soon would be possible (if not already) for red haired and blondes to get thier hair removed with IPL/laser etc. Method was to dye the hair to be removed with a special dye that went into the follicle. The downside (I imagine would be) is that after removal and whilst waiting for the hair to "grow out and fall out" you'de be going around with black hair instead of the blonde/red you are used to... + side is you get rid of some facial hair:)

I think m.april's advice is really good... I bet a mineral oil based antibiotic would be fine but can't speak to that from personal experience...

M. April you are a genious! I used a thin layer of neosporin the last two nights. And there was only a redness where the pustules used to be. All the pus stuff was gone. And the mineral oil didn't seem to clog the pores at all! So I am VERY HAPPY today Very Happy
So did this "heal" the pores that were filling with white blood cells and debris? It must have been an inflammatory response to the waxing? I have dry skin and an oily nose. My cheeks are normally dry. I am glad that I defuzzed, the new hairs are growing in soft. I just hate those prickly dark ones.

Ruth, I'm sorry you've been through this too! It makes you feel like less of a woman in a way. I look at these girls with fine barely visible hairs on there cheeks, upper lip, and chin. And I wish I could be soft like that too. Crying or Very sad I've had a blood test for my hormone levels which are fine and within range. I don't have too much testosterone or anything. My aunt also has hairs on her face that are over an inch long. It is like they keep growing and don't know that you do not want a beard! She bleaches so she has kindof a thick fur on her face that is white. I just did not want that. I hope in the future when I can afford laser treatments again that I can use that pigmentation stuff that attracks the laser to the hair. That is a BIG wish list. Smile Thanks you guys for all your help! Your'e the best! Laura
