There is so much information on this site. Actually gets confusing trying to find the best products for certain results. I have been trying to read everything from the forums recent and dated but I just dont have the time to read through everything.
I would like to know what key ingredients i should be looking for in products for firming the face, diminishing lines. pluming lips. and preventing lines. thanks |

| I agree, its very confusing. And if you weed what works from what doesn't, thats half the battle! I can tell you right away. Look for a product with tons of antioxidants and cell communicating ingredients in it. There is no one special ingredient for skin, so you may as well look for a product that has it all! |

Firming- DMAE, Vitamin C, Seaweed Extract, Hyaluronic Acid
Diminishing Lines- Retinol/retinoic acid, matrix enhancing peptides, mimetic oligopeptides, AHA peels, vitamin c, hyaluronic acid
Plumping lips - Topical Niacin, hyaluronic acid/collagen capsules (taken orally seem to give many people results)
Preventing Lines- SUNSCREEN! Also Antioxidants (pomegranite extract, green tea extract, blueberry extract, vitamin c), neuropeptides such as AH3, pentapeptide-3, curare-like peptides or ingredients that disrupt the connectivity of the neuroreceptors that result in motion wrinkles
Lots of other great & effective ingredients, just depends on exactly what you're looking for, what type of product you're looking for (cream, serum, etc), and your skin type.
Hope I helped a little
Good luck! |

thank you for you responses.
pbsadhaka,
what i am looking for is a lotion for the day and creams and serums for the night. I use Clarins at the moment so i would probably stay with their multi active day cream/gel because it is light. But i really need to find something that works a little better. I also have only ever used clarins so i really just dont know what is out there besides the main lines you see in department stores. any help i would love to get. thanks |

Well, the good thing about department store brands is that the store is always convenient, and you can test things before you buy, but the downside is that I have found that they are way overpriced & that the level of active ingredients in them is little to ziltch. You are paying for a name & those sexy commercials & billboards.
Go & visit day spas that carry more than one line & ask them for their suggestions for your skin type & skin issues, they often will provide samples at no cost.
Good luck! |

Fierce: What are the problems you want to address. This would guide what you should use. If you're not using a Vit C serum you should. This should be used by all ages as it protects from and allieviates sun damage.
I've found that the only thing that actually removed deepish lines is glycolic acid (AHA) peels followed by copper peptides and/or the PSF O2 serum. Everything else I tried even high priced highly touted stuff never worked except perhaps for short term. I also do NOT like the peptide argireline. There are only company studies that show modest improvement and there are valid safety concerns (I don't believe the anecdotal face sagging stories but I do believe that use all over your face may result in a long term problem, why risk it for little gain and possible pain). The are ingredients that work better.
I do use DMAE and estriol (hormone) for skin firmness, antioxidants such as green tea/resveratrol for preventing new damage (also Matrixyl a peptide that stimulates collagen this is backed up by real unbiased research). Other peptides and new actives are on the horizen.
For acne and oiliness I use Tazorac (prescription, like Retin-A but more gentle), ACV toner and aspirin mask. These are great and not expensive. |

| Sharky - Just curious but what strength of glycolic acid did you use for your peels and did you do them yourself or did you have them professionally done? I have a 50% strength from platinumskincare.com, but I didn't feel that even that was very strong. I wouldn't say I have very resilient skin since I never could adjust to retin-a micro, but I didn't peel at all with the 50%, at least not that I could see. |

ok so i have picked up a product called reversa at the drug store to try. it has 4%glycolic acid and 3% matrixyl in it. do you think this is enough to have any effect?
I just want something for firmness, preventing lines and fading the ones i already have. I should say i am only 24 but I was very ill through my pregnancy and every since my face seems to sag near the chin, and deep lines. i should also explain that i have lost all extra weight shortly after the pregnancy so it is not extra weight. When i go into stores to ask about product they think i am in my thirties. I just dont know how to get my face firm and young looking again. |

I use 30% at about 2.5pH. The strength and pH are important for penetration. I get it from the Personal Forumulator and dilute and adjust the pH. Everybody's skin is different and it may take trial and error to find the conditions that work for u. I've also used mixed peels (glycolic/lactic/citric and salycillic) but it is really trial and error and I got lots of redness with these although still mix from time to time). I've read some medical articles that suggest citric acid enhances the benefits of a glycolic peel. I don't know whether this is true.
I use DDF 18% every day on my hands that is about 4.5 pH. Under a pH of about 3 and 10% concentration you should not use more than once every other week. I initiaaly also saw no dramatic reaction but I have now after aboyt 9 months of this almost totally eliminated the lines around my mouth (just have a piece of one left on the side of my mouth). For 50 years old I have very few lines and no real wrinkles and this was not the case 2.5 years ago. Most of the change came from diet before I started using topicals (esp tightening).
P.S. You have to be extremely careful with starting your own acid peels. I've had good luck but some bad reactions so whenever I start a new concentration or acid I test a bit
under my chin for a few minutes. If it stings badly I wash it off. Also some people are very sensitive and some people need a high strength for
results so you have to start low and build up. |

Sharky,
You are using many things I am very interested in: Tazorac, Matrixyl, DMAE and estriol, etc
Please provide details on HOW you use them. Morning, eve, together, separate, % and where to buy them from.
Thanks a lot |
