I know I’m not the only devotee of this perfume that I discovered way back in junior high school because I remember another member saying that she couldn’t get it in Canada....

Anyway, just wanted to let other fans of “Skin Musk” know that they’ve developed a new scent called “Skin Vanilla,” and you can currently get special edition .55oz bottles of SM or SV cologne for $3.33USD at CVS stores.

I actually picked up both scents and I have to say that the Vanilla isn’t too bad – I like it much better than nearly every other vanilla musk I’ve ever tried, although unfortunately I’m not very good at discerning the different notes or scents in a perfume or cologne so I’m not able to describe it for you. But on the other hand, three bucks and change to try it out yourself isn’t exactly going to break the bank!

For the record, Skin Musk remains my all-time favorite perfume scent so I guess that means I’m stuck in an 8th grade rut and my tastes haven’t developed past my adolescence!! Shock Tell me I'm not alone and others love this scent, too.

Hi Carekate,

I had to laugh when I read this ... and thought "Gee ... if I was stuck in the 8th grade with my then perfume of choice ... I would still be bathing in Taboo!

However, I have never heard of this Skin Musk by Bonne Bell ... but then I am in Canada. LOL

You don't find that these less expensive scents trigger migraines? That was one of my problems with perfumes of all prices! Crying or Very sad There seems to be a base note in most perfumes that trigger a migraine in me in seconds! Crying or Very sad

The only scent that I can wear without too much risk of triggering a migraine are the Calgon body mists ... which aren't very strong and don't seem to have that same base note ingredient in them. However, they are hardly what I'd call "perfume". Laughing

I must look for these Bonne Bell scents at my local store ... I'd love to find something that is slightly more exotic than the Calgon mists!

Mary

lol...8th grade for me was Navy. I can't even remember how that smells now. I haven't ever smelled Skin Musk but now you've got me curious. Of course I tend to prefer florals (but not too floral) over musks for a light scent. Or I also just love wearing scented lotions like Bath and Body's Coconut Lime Verbena, my FAVE for summertime. Evertime I wear it it reminds me of being on a cruise. Next time I'm in CVS I'll try to remember to check it out. Very Happy [/img]

Actually, the only type of scents that *don’t* set me off – regardless of price – are musks, most (foody) vanillas and – believe it or not – Bare Escentuals “Escentual” perfume with it 150 “blooming” essences! Anything other than that, and I get an instant migraine so badly that it feels like someone is driving an icepick into my brain....Hey, maybe that’s why my perfume tastes haven’t evolved over the years...?

“Tabu”... oh Lord, to this day that remains my mom’s all-time fave perfume!

You aren't alone carekate, I also love that "musky" smell I wore in the 80's! When I was younger I loved Allysa Ashley musk (think that was the name), don't know if they still make it or not...now I prefer to use The Body Shop's white musk, it is also very nice!

Carekate,
That's too funny. I had a friend who used to wear the Bonnie Bell Musk and also Jovan Musk... her whole room smelled like it. I was partial to Exclamation! and Sand and Sable myself. Very Happy Ahhh... those were the days! Just wondering... have you ever tried the Kiehl's Original Musk? I got it as a sample and it is pretty nice. Right now I am loving Narcisco Rodriguez Musc for Her. I have bought it four times and I just love it!

Oooh, I LOVE the smell of Jovan Musk: one of my coworkers wears it as his daily cologne and I swear that whenever he walks by, I just want to jump him because the scent just drives me wild! Embarassed

Another el cheapo favorite from “back in the day” is Coty Wild Musk Oil: when I was back in junior high, I used to absolutely BATHE in the stuff whenever we went to the (roller)skating rink on Friday night. It must’ve worked because I always had guys swarming around me and telling me how incredible I smelled!

No, I haven’t tried either one. I’m always very leery about trying out fragrances when I’m in the shops for fear it’ll trigger one of my blinding headaches.

Actually, on the rare occasions that I do check out fragrances, I’m sure I piss off the sales assistants because instead of spritzing myself with the samples, I’ll spray it against the counter or shelf – that way if the smell bothers me, I can walk away from it rather than having the offending perfume clinging to me for hours because it’s on my skin or clothing! Some stores like Ulta and Sephora have actually wised up and they offer little strips of absorbent “construction paper” that customers can use as test strips for the fragrance samples, which is really nice because it also gives you the opportunity to take the test strip with you to check out the scent after the “dry down” period and see what the other “notes” in the perfume are.

Anyway, one of the beauty boutiques here (Luxe Apothetique, for my fellow Austinites, just a couple doors down from Sephora) carries Kiehl products so I’ll have to see if I can get a sample of their musk, as well as see if Sephora has Narcisco R. perfumes when I’m there this afternoon picking up my Lip Fusion XL....

And here’s another blast from the past: how many of you remember sampling and/or wearing “Love’s Baby Soft” cologne when you were in junior high?!

Oh, I wore Exclamation! and Sand and Sable all the time back then. I still have a bottle of Sand and Sable with my other scents on my dresser. Those fragrances bring back the memories!
