Hi,

Is there anybody succesfully using an anti-acne and anti-aging regimine succesfully without irritation? I'm confused about how to approach these two goals together. I'm using medication for the acne every other day, it is called Diffeirn (a derivitive of retin-a) and I use Benzaclin for spot treatment.

I also am trying perricones dmae, vitamin C, and ALA treatments. I find that they don't seem to work well with the acne stuff, and i sometimes find that my skin starts to sting and become a little red if i appy them together.

So, does anybody have any suggestions? Should I ditch the meds for over the counter acne treatments like AHA/BHA? Would that work better with anti-aging treatments?

I would like to try the peptides too, but i'm concerned they would interfere with the acne treatments.

Thanks
Aqua

I have found that I have very few outbreaks when I spot treat with Tri-Luma- a prescription with a .05% retinol derivative. I don't use it all over my face because it gets red, very dry and starts to flake. (Though it is a good thing when the age spots flake off.) So I only use it to spot treat blemishes and those stubborn brown spots. Every few weeks I give my skin a break for several days. That way I don't get the redness.

I also use a 10% gylcolic gel several times a week which really seems to work on both diminishing outbreaks as well as evening out skin tone, etc.

I layer both of these with an anti-aging moisturizer, (I use a DMAE with liposomes and vitamin C ester at night and a copper peptide in the AM, with vitamin K around the eyes to treat the dark spots), which also helps to minimize the red, dry skin that the retinol and, on some skin, the gylcolic can create.

Hope that helps!

Thanks. could you please tell me which anti-aging products you are using?

Also, do you find that layering them with glycolic acid causes irritation? Do you use the Dmae/C ontop of the acids?

Thanks

I use Tazorac which is both for acne and wrinkles. I also use AHA/BHA peels and the ACV toner. This routine has cleared my adult acne. (also use a C serum and some other things)

i use Epidermx microdermabrasion protreatment which is helping both my acne and forehead wrinkles ... i also use AHA and BHA once in a while ... i don't find AHA help my lines but handy to use when my skin gets congested. From my experience the Epidermx works better in addressing acne and wrinkles. I have oily, acne prone skin but surprisingly love the Sikia camellia oil as a moisturizer. I have been on Epidermx/Silkia since July and my skin has totally changed for the better ... i still have breakouts now and then but most of my post acne hyperpigmentation and forehead lines are gone ... and my depressed acne scars are half raised.

Hey aquablue, I also replied to your other post. Smile Do you think that it could be the perricone products that may be causing the redness, irritation?
When using an acne med your skin will become extra sensitive. Maybe try a vitamin c that has hyluronic acid--sp? in it as well? That would soothe and hydrate your skin. I would try to work with a simple regimen first with ingredients that are gentle.
