Seems very weird, and maybe coincidental, but I have had loose bowel movements ever since I started using Vitamin C face cream. I have also noticed my skin smells different, a bit like fake tan smell. I have heard that mega doses of Vit C taken orally can cause this, but not sure about using it topically. |

NO. Not diarrhea.
But the smell you experience is common with the Vit C oxidising on the skin.
If you look at the advice for "How To Use" on some of the good formulations (eg Martiderm, packaged in individual ampoules for single uses), they actually say to wipe off the excess after 5-10 minutes because the skin will have absorbed all that it will within a few minutes. Leaving excess on top of the skin will not improve its efficacy. One exception is Vit C in Ester forms or oily form. These types of vit C do not oxidise like "ascorbic acid" and are absorbed via sustained released.
Anyway, wipe off excess after 5 mins with a cool (not warm or hot) slightly wet towel. Follow with toner if desired. |
