I am really surprised that I have lost body fat without even trying the last three weeks. I have been taking MSM crystals for two months, building up from 2x 1000mg to 2x 2500mg and suddenly I lost weight and my skin got firmer in the thigh, tummy and upper arms. I have been exercising for several years and I always eat healthy, but there were some areas which I didnt think would change - and I was okay with that Smile It must be the MSM, since its the only thing I have done different! I lost five pounds in all the right areas LOL.

Is this just co-incidence or is that possible because of taking the MSM??

MSM does do wonders for the skin. It also helps all the cells in the body function better making cell walls more permiable. This enables tissues to release toxins and waste better, and absorb nutrients better.

Since cells are functioning better, some short term weight loss is possible.

Its some good stuff. Smile

Hi Tagal - its all thanks to YOU. You encouraged me to take it. THANKS sooo much for all your great advise

It DOES increase collagen and elastin, improve circulation and remove toxins. So it would make sense if I think about it. Those areas usually dont have the best circulation as I heard before, mainly in women. So it may help to get to the fatty deposits in those areas. Also, cellulite and loseness of the skin is related to loss/damage to the collagen and elastin, and thats where MSM jumps in, increasing both. Plus removing improving lymphatic removal of toxins also helps probably. Very Happy

Have you seen any improvement in lashs and hair and nails yet? I saw that at 6 weeks. And skin just looked "lusher"

YES Smile I forgot to mention that. My nails dont peel anymore and are thicker now in the part that has been growing out since I started taking it. My lashes are fuller and longer too.

OK you guys, that's it.. I'm going out this weekend to purchase the MSM tabs (anyone care to recommend a good brand?) even though it is frigid here in southeast Michigan and I swore when I got home this evening I wouldn't be leaving the house until Monday morning to go back to work! This time I'm convinced...

Also, it works best in combination with Vit C intake min. 1000mg (1g) up to 3000mg (3g)

Here a couple cheap sources for MSM crystals

I bought mine from vitacost.com....their NSI brand MSM comes in capsules, and I checked that there's no filler.

http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-MSM-Methyl-sulfonylmethane

1,000 mg 240 capsules for only $9.99

And without any filler to boot....hard to find.

BUT if anyone else finds a better deal...lemme know!

I so hope I see some results with MSM. I started taking it religiously maybe for 2 weeks now. I have not lost any fat or see my hair or lashes grow longer noticeably.

Hi everybody, I'm sure I've missed some link or two explaining all about importance of taking MSM. While I can find information about MSM, I wonder how do I know if I should be taking it and most important -how much should I take?

What exactly is MSM? and what will it do to your body or skin? Does anyone know where I can get in here in Vancouver? Thanks!

hi lavie again...

my mom just sent me lots of supplements from the US, msm and vit c/bioflavonoids among them (all from trader joes--probably not the best quality). I have a pretty strong stomach, but I did notice that my stomach felt a bit unsettled the day I decided to take msm twice in one day... Not sure about the crystalline form, but I will confirm with you that it is IMPOSSIBLE to find any supplements here at all.
I have to give my cat l-lysine because he has a compromised immune system and herpes (poor thing was found almost dead, covered in oil, in the bronx, as a kitten!), and I went everywhere trying to find this supplement, which costs about $3 at any CVS/Sav-on/Duane Reade, etc., and I ended up paying 25 euros for a small bottle! It is certainly disconcerting that the EU is censoring the sale of nutritional supplements here, and certainly ironic that cosmetic companies can sell such bogus supplements under the guise of "cosmetics" that can be used internally... All the supplements available here come from the US anyways... whatever!

when starting MSM start with small doses once a day with some food in your stomach of a meal. Taking on an empty stomach can increase stomach upset in some people.

Start with 500 mg. GRADUALLY work up your dose.
Drink lots of water to help flush your system.

MSM is a natural sulfer componant in the human body, it is part of all tissues, and a key componant part of skin, hair, nails, joints, and structer tissues.

I have some links on MSM but need to find them, I will add later.

A little info is here:
www.msm-msm.com andwww.bio-alternatives.net - These are two sites I recomend and but from.

Info on the detox effect, and how to lessen that. http://www.msm-msm.com/faq.html

Messageboard section covers uses of MSM.
http://www.msm-msm.com/board/viewforum.php?f=5&sid=f33df6007409cae587e71eb616c2dfd1

I will add links later I have info on how it helps hair growth and skin pigmentation issues.

wow thanks tangal--you're the best!!!!!!

you should really have your own website, btw.

I'm so appalled at the manner in which most people present their information on the web.

You are always crystalline clear and so helpful.

Thank you, and I'm sure many others agree. Smile

Uh oh. After reading this thread impulsive me went out and got MSM capsules - I also had to get refills of my other supplements. I just popped 2000mg on a semi empty stomach before reading Tangal's post! Hope I'm not going to feel too sick Smile

Thanks Ava.

I sort of do have my own site - I am the head Mod atwww.sunless.com. You will see me posting there daily.

The off topic board is usually where I cover posts of the skincare nature. Plus I handle tons of email from our posters there on this type of subject.

By Profession I work in the Skincare field, which involves tons and tons and tons of research. I work with companys creating new products, or fine-tuning current product.

So I deal with this stuff daily, as well as working with the labs and companys involved. This makes me a stickler for accuracy.

Many of the web info claims can be put out by anyone, and they can say anything with little to back up their claims. I hate that, I want to se the facts that support that info . Smile

There are many issues with proponents on both sites, with conflicting claims. Which I understand. But I want to see the data on both sides, that support both claims. Then I can decide based on the validity of the way the data was gathered.

I have a background in medicinal and lab work, so am well able to read and understand lab data, That helps me a lot!

I am not an expert, just a well educated meticulous lay person. But I have the advantage of being able to actually make some sense out of the tons of stuff they throw at the average consumer – which confounds the heck out of many people. (which is their purpose many times…LOL)

If I can help I will. But I generally avoid posting on many topics here, as I am not interested in being flamed. Smile But if its directed to me, I am always glad to help.

I also work from home, tend to be busy, and handle all the Mod issues on other messageboards, plus tons of emails and phonecalls in relation to my volunteer work, and job issues. So I tend to be a busy pup.

But glad to help in waht little way I can

FaithTruth - you will probably be fine. Many people never have stomach upset. I never have, and I started with 2000 mg at a time. (I take 4000 or so now)

I saw improvement is less hair fall/shed at two weeks. But skin took 4 weeks, and lashs took 6 weeks. But improvement got better after that.
