Jam and goddess49 - thanks so much! So, ACV's not effective with moles . . . ok. When you refer to "series" of treatments, how many treatments would you say this comprised for you, goddess, and over what period of time? |

Authentic Voice-I'm thinking it was 3-4 in a one week period followed by the same a week or so later. Had I known how successful it would be, I would have taken notes! |

Authentic Voice....I did 4 treatments during last week and have not done anymore yet but plan to start the next series this evening. I have many SKs that are starting to flake off and others are starting to loosen around the edges. This is positive progress for me!
Goddess I am very thankful for you and all your posts as well as for those that came before you!
Keep us posted Authentic Voice and I will do the same.....JAM |

Jam - good for you! I appreciate all the encouragement . . . I'll keep you posted as I go through the ACV process. I'm going to wait until we're through the holidays. Blessings for smooth skin to you and to all of us (: |

Wow.....stings like fire! I'm going with the original poster by using 30% GA solution as a spray. It's been "on" now for about one hour and it's still burning, but subsiding somewhat. What tortures we will undergo to get rid of these nastys. My back is covered with them, so this process will take some time to work. I'm interested in the quickest result, so am willing to suffer Stay tuned for what happens in my worst-case scenario. |

I haven't looked for the peroxide (H2O2) since I opted for the Glycolic acid route. I guess the peroxide may be a little less costly than the GA...still a lot better than professional fees, though...good luck! |

I just found this site. What great information! My doctor has done the freezing and lighter spots are left on my already fair skin. I've used a cream called RegSor on a newer sk that went away after several weeks of use several times a day! Now I want to try to hydrogen peroxide and will let you know the outcome. Thanks for being here. |

Welcome Peechez....good luck to you! I need to know where you are all finding the H2O2 30% and the GA?....haven't had any luck in my local health markets....must I order this on line?
I did one more ACVinegar treatment over last weekend and I am now going to give it a break until after Thanksgiving....things are drying out now and flaking off...I think I will need to do the H2O2 to get the results I am looking for.
Have a great day all! JAM |

Hi Jam....try Googling "30glycolic". Lots of different solution strengths as well as combo kits. By the time your event happens this next Spring, I know you'll have all in great shape...let us know! This morning, I have almost no more pain, so I'm gonna go for a 2nd try...then lay off for a few days to see. |

I am new to this forum but the information on getting rid of SK has been so encouraging. Thank you. However I have not seen anything on having SK on the scalp ! I saw a dermatologist yesterday ( my third ) who told me there is nothing I can do ! I am desperate as these on my scalp have grown very fast and seem far more aggressive than the few I have on my body. Does anyone know what I could try or if there is anyone who has treated them on the scalp ?i thought I would try the ACV as it seemed the simplest to start. Any help would be so appreciated as yesterday was such bad news ! Does anyone know what causes them ? |

Don't be too discouraged about the dermatologist's comments....they are universal among that crowd. You will need to start with relatively low GA concentrations and apply via qtip to each. This way you can monitor any possible effects on your hair. |

Thanks colionne and welcome MD. I will check the sites for GA. Any news on finding H2O2?
MD....there was a man on this forum in the earlier posts/pages that I remember treating his scalp. You may want to browse the earlier pages. I do remember someone else having SKs in the hairline around the face. The concern is anything running into your eyes. I have learned from a nurse friend that hopitals have found that the new plastic wrap that just came out a yr or two ago that clings to everything also sticks to skin. Maybe soaking a cotton ball and then sealing it with that wrap will help prevent any drips. I was going to try this for areas that I want to treat longer than others.
Its helpful to hear what everyone comes up with to help resolve problem areas. Let us know what you learn and do not get discouraged.
Good luck! Jam |

Thanks for the welcome, Jam! (My son used to call his pre-pre-kindegarten teacher "Ms. Jam" ~ her name was "Jan". So cute.)
re SCALP: I've found they are more aggressive and grow faster, but conversely they are easier to treat. The RegSor cream seems really effective in removing them relatively quickly (as compared to the older more stubborn ones). Use it several times a day as long as it takes. They are easier to peel or lop off if they grow "taller" than the other kind on the body.
I am experimenting with using the qtip like a pencil eraser, after applying generous amounts of the RegSor. Sometimes they begin to rub off in small crumbly amounts. When I reach pain or blood, I stop. In time, even the pain and blood element finally diminishes as the thing dries up more.
Anyone find a "nucleus" in theirs? I seem to have some with nuclei where they seem to go deeper, like maybe that is where they began. Those are the places that start to draw blood first, and sometimes there is a bump at the spot of each nucleus. |

I just joined and am encouraged to find that there are others seeking a way to get rid of Keratosis. I too have been told that there's nothing to do but have them frozen.
I bought some Glycolic 30% and tried using it for a few minutes. There are so many posts here that I was wondering if someone could reiterate for me the proper way to use this to be effective. I hate these things. |

Welcome Francine!
I have only used the ACV treatment.(Acid Cider Vinegar). But if you read back just a few posts others have used the GA. Most start out cautiously in small areas to test for sensitivity. Good luck! We are all striving for smooth skin together.
Peechez that was a sweet little story about your little guy...cute for sure!!

Thanks for the reply JAM. I put some 30% GA on yesterday and left it on without any neutralizer. I am going to do it again today and see if it does anything. So far, nothing. Don't know how often or how long to leave it on. I guess it's an individual thing? I'm doing just one spot. I also bought some TCA 20% but am afraid to use it yet. |

I wanted to report a minor miracle regarding the battle with my numerous SK's...
Of all the random methods I've tried, this is by far the most effective regimen so far.
1. Use my home microdermabrasion tool (PMD) over the SK area (my test area has been the front of my neck and decollete). Once per week.
2. Mix 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide with water. I decided to start cutting the strength in half because I've gone the full strength route and it burns terribly on my skin. It's so uncomfortable that even it that worked, I couldn't apply it more than once every two weeks as my skin has needed that much time to heal and become less sensitive. Basically I never made any real progress doing this. Cannot do ACV simply because the smell is frankly too overpowering to me and I refuse to be wet all night long with the T-shirt trick. I've wanted to try but could never make it happen.
Now I use a 1:1 ratio of water to the hydrogen peroxide (1 oz water, 1 oz hydrogen peroxide making a 17.5% strength).
After 3 weeks of this once a week treatment, my SKs are officially breaking up and flaking off. And best of all... NO BURN. Totally manageable level of discomfort if any.
Here's a pic of an area now in process of becoming clear (I will take another pic in another couple of weeks and update). Keep in mind that the lighting in the bathroom, a microderm, and the application of the peroxide have collaborated in making my skin look fairly red. Also, after applying the peroxide mix, I sometimes see the white frosting effect and sometimes don't... but it seems to be making a difference regardless of what I see on the surface. This area started off with a denser level of SK's. Still have a ways to go, but it's progress! Other areas with less thick SKs have already flaked off completely... just using my nail or a washcloth.:

It's now been about 10 days since my back treatment with 30% GA. According to my wife, it's about 45% improved. The SKs were extensive over the entire surface of my back, so the improvement is very welcome. I don't think the healing is actually complete, so I'm waiting for complete healing before trying another application. It's pretty drastic, taking into account the pain and subsequent itching, but at least there's hope! |

Thanks for the pic! I have noticed some of these showing up on my thighs, and I had attributed it to sunbathing as a teen.
While I do have a PMD, I do have a handy rotating pumice stone on my Emjoi foot sander, and I bet that will work just as well. And I will definitely be following your dilution recommendation, because I tried it full strength in the past and it was unbearable!
How are you applying the peroxide? |
