Okay, so I'm not working at the moment and have been catching up on my day-time-TV. One thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of infomercials selling skincare (Cindy Crawford's one something-or-other beauty, Principal Secret, Susan Lucci's microdermabrasion with some crystal thingies, as examples).
My question is - has anyone ever bought any of these *it's okay, we're all friends you don't have to be embarrassed*? And if so, what did you think?
I have to admit, I am tempted by the papain/papaya mask thingie that Victoria Principal advertises Think - see, I've admitted a weakness, now your turn...

Skincare I've bought from infomercials??? Just two - waaaaay back when.

I got the Victoria Jackson cosmetic thingy that was super popular in the late eighties. Wasn't my cup of tea.

But the best one is this......I bought "the George Hamilton skincare system!!!" Ha Ha!!!! George Hamilton - the perpetual tanned guy!!! I must have ordered that during my years of doing heavy drugs (KIDDING!!!!). I don't even remember what the products were!

I was tempted when Victoria Principal first came out too, but resisted.

I bought Leigh Valentine and liked it but cancelled auto ship right away.

I bought Victoria P when she first came out but sent it back, the orginal line was not that great. She has improved it alot since then.

Bought Revitacel line

Then of course there HSN, QVC, etc... Wink

I think many of the skin care & cosmetic lines that are being sold on tv shopping channels rivals many of the other lines sold in stores, spas etc. The deals are very good ladies and where else can you go where product lines are talked about at length with no pressure to buy or dealing with crowded parking lots and crowds period? AND if you're not happy, you can return your items within 30 days.

Hi! I've tried the system by Susan Lucci, and I really like it. My skin glows afterwards. I've also tried Principal Secret advanced, liked it, but it's no better than anything else!

hmmm, so general consensus is that it's no better or worse than other high street brands?

I used Prai which is the one that Cathy Kangas shows on TVSN here in Australia, but is also available in USA, Canada and the UK on shopping channels, for a year or so and thoroughly enjoyed the products. Not each and every one but there were some really nice ones and my skin behaved very well during that time, and looked well cared for. Definitely as good as any Dept store brand I think. They are pretty highly fragranced ...but I sort of liked the smell, it's a little bit like bubblegum or something! I just got a bit bored and moved on to Dermalogica but I would still recommend it as a good brand to try.

I've tried the Elizabeth Grant Torricelum Pur line -- and it was very good. My skin never felt dehydrated and responded beautifully to foundation. I must say that her eye mask is extraordinary -- try it, if you get the chance --It really refines and smooths the eye area -- without puffing it up or drying it out - it's superb. I've also tried the Aloette Platinum line (peptide-based) and it was surprisingly effective, especially the serum and the night treatment. I know that most of you are saying "ugh!!" (and I wouldn't touch the older Aloette stuff with a ten foot pole) but the Aloette platinum line is actually quite good! I was shocked!
Another Canadian Shopping Channel product I can't live without is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer - if you haven't tried this product - you haven't lived!

I have pretty much tried everything listed above. Victoria Principal, Cindy Crawford, Susan Lucci and Elizabeth Grant and usually gave them away to friends/family. They're nice products but didn't do much for me. I was allergic to some of Victoria Principal's. I do use Prai for my neck (noticed on tv that the spokeswoman had a nice neck) and am going to re-order.

I'm always tempted by the infomercials, too, and fallen prey to them once or twice (Proactiv--most horrible products on the planet). But then I always ask myself if the celebrities who are paid to endorse those skin care lines really use the products. I prefer to buy my skin care at stores like Sephora where I can get samples of products before I commit to buying. And then if I end up not liking something, it's really easy to return and get my money back. I'd imagine that it would take a while to get your money back from returning the infomercial products.

I don't believe TV skincare lines. As TV is so strong in propaganda. I came to one TV skincare ad when I was young, they said they had lavendar essential oil which can cure scars. During that time, I was very interested as they were so persuasive. But now, I think they are just liars.
