I am currently using retin-A .05 but I want to upgrade to the .1 but I am afraid that it will be too strong. Any suggestions? |

Hi Everyone, Just recently found this site and joined. I'm in my fifth week of using Obaji. No major problems, mostly sun/age spots, finally I'm seeing results! Barely peeling now, redness almost gone. Question...I know I'm not really suppose to be wearing foundation, but feel naked without a light foundation when I go out. So far haven't been able to wear any, it's like it doesn't adhere to my skin anymore! Have tried light powder, looks too cakey and dry. Has anyone else had this problem, if so, what foundation are you using? Thanks, TnRose55 |

I don't want to kill your hopefulness about fixing your skin, but you and I have somewhat similar skin and I just stopped using Obagi 3 weeks ago, after 4 months of "waiting", with few results.
The reason I went on Nu-Derm was for acne, I don't have age spots, sun damage or noticable scarring, just the breakouts. The only thing in the routine that helps acne is the Retin-A, so the rest is hundreds of dollars of "help" I didn't need, but I was convinced otherwise.
I'm glad I tried Obagi though, it's how I found this and other forums that I've learned so much from. Now I'm on a simple routine that's more about working with the chemistry of your skin and treating it gently. I just started, but for once I understand the role of each product, so I'm pretty hopeful.
Obagi might work for you, but I would really recommend studying up before investing in it. |

What sparked my interest in the Obagi line was its effectiveness in fading/removing scars. However, my main concern of starting (besides the peeling/painfulness) is that it uses hydroquinone. I guess I'll be looking for a gentler alternative. But it's nice to know my options are there |

Hello lmv. I have just finished 6 months of Obagi with the micro retin A. This is the second time I have tried to use it. I don't really have sensitive skin, but the first month, maybe month and a half were really hard. My face was really red, and it peeled. I did this without any doctor's supervision, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend using it without supervision since you have sensitive skin. Warning aside though - this program has been FANTASTIC for my skin. (I used clear, blender and the exfoderm-forte with the retin a). I am 37, but I really don't have any wrinkles yet. I was dealing with dark spots from the using the pill and getting sun, and with old and new acne spots. All spots are significantly faded and almost completely gone. My skin is VERY clear now - though I still get breakouts even at my age. In addition, I positively glow - a number of people have commented on this. I am starting to ween myself off of it, but roatating days of use. It's been wonderful, but it may not be for everyone! |

Also, I forgot to mention. I have recently started using the Obagi spf 35 too. It's really nice- not as shiny as many other sunscreens. I got it for free as a bonus from EDS. |

I have extremely problematic skin. My cheeks, jawline and chin are covered in large, dark acne scars with a few cystic pimples thrown in. I've had dermatologists prescribe me antibiotics and topicals that have yielded little result. I'm 20 years old and my skin has been SUCH an embarrassment for me for so long and I DESPERATELY need some sort of extreme treatment to finally put these scars in the past.

If your main concern is dark scars that you want to get rid of quickly, I would go to the derm for IPL. They will darken up and fall off. The IPL destroys the melanocytes (sp?) so the scars won't come back. With hydroquinone the melanocytes are still there so if you get them into the sun your scars are back again. After IPL you could use a more gentle regimen to help with the moderate acne.
I am one of the Obagi failures as well, I stuck with it for four months of peeling, cracking, and bleeding skin. Everyone said I just had to stick it out for the lovely skin to appear, so I did, for months of people saying 'what happened to your face?' and 'you need to go to the doctor.'
I finally gave up, but my skin has not been the same since. Even after I quit Obagi it was still a mess of random red dry patches. It is now very sensitive, can't use anything with strong actives -- even sunscreen burns. Also I haven't been able to exfoliate with anything stronger than a muslin cloth. I started Eve Lom about 6 weeks ago, my face has calmed down a lot now so I may carefully try to start with some actives again. |

Obagi is the best skin care I used on lightening dark spots and reducing acne scars. |

Obagi is a serious skin restoration regime. If you are willing to deal with a lot of redness and peeling for a few weeks, you will be rewarded with clear, even-toned and dewy skin.
I must admit, the reaction stage was a bit off-putting. After about 4 weeks I started to see my acne disappear. After 6 weeks my skin looked better than it has in 10 years (I'm 34.)

Agree with you - my skin looked better than it has in 10 years (I'm 35!!)
I realized that I wasted so much money on different skincare until I used Obagi. |

I also swears by Obagi. I even recommended to my eldest sister, who is now 56. She said her skin has never been better. She even got compliments from her co-workers, asking about her secrets. She'd never tell

I used foaming cleanser, toner, clear, retin-A micro 0.1% (by prescription) and blender. I did not need to use the Exfoderm (I peeled like mad without it!!) |

I've been using Obagi for almost 4 years now, and I swear by the products. My skin has never been better.... Of course, in order to maintain the results, you also need to properly take care of the rest of your body i.e. food, exercise, no stres, etc....

Obagi makes your pores "smaller" and refined.
Please try it. However, only use pea size for application. Not too much!

I think Retin-A is causing you to peel, may be you can use the Retin_A every other night or two. |

Thank you very much by explaining the how the system works. I already bought the product, I'm understand physiology and anatomy a little but not enough to solve my concern. I have acne problem ever since 14, small acne all over my face. I've tried so many products, it never worked. I'm 19 now. My face is always red, and it become really red whenever i touch it, does it mean my skin is sensitive and thin? If so, am i right for Obagi nu-derm? If my skin is too thin for Obagi, will i get capillary breaks? Please help, thanks a lot |

I
I don't have a single good result to report for all the trauma. In fact, it took another 6 months to get my skin to look as good as it did *before* I used Obaji. Now, some 2 years later, my skin is much more sensitive and easily irritated than it was prior to abusing it with Obaji (plus the broken capillaries I didn't have before this).
I already bought obagi but hesitate if i should use it because broken capillaries is exactly the thing that i'm worrying about. I have acne since 14, really really oily skin. I'm 19 now, acne is a tinny little bit better than when i was 15. My face a red all the time, and gets more red when touching it.So red that people would think i having allergic reaction on my face. I assume I have sensitive and think skin? Peeling will cause skin gets thinner. I'm really worry broken capillaries. After reading tons of reviews, it seems to me that Obagi doesn't work for certain type of skin, and i'm trying to find out. Can you please describe yoru skin type to me? Besides, any words for me before i start using Obagi? |
