My tap water is so chlorinated that taking a bath smelled like swimming in a pool. When I was purchasing a water filter for my kitchen sink last week, I noticed the shower filter on the website and decided to give it a try. I love it. The chlorine smell is gone and my skin and hair seems softer after only 2 days. I'm testing the difference in my skin by not using moisturiser on my legs, which normally get very dry. It was only $40 Very Happy

I have a shower filter on my shower too and I DEFINITELY notice a huge difference as far as increased softness and shine on my hair and not HAVING to use moisturizers on my legs and such. Of course I still DO cuz lotion is just yummy. But I used to think my hair was super dry and turns out, there was just ALOT of chlorine and minerals in my water!

Isn't it great, I get so excited to take my showers now. I'm suprised I hadn't seen these mentioned on the forum before since there are so many users trying to avoid harsh chemicals in their products and more is found in the water!!!

A filter for my shower is on my wish list. Thanks for letting us know how great it is! It's not much money but it seems like a luxury product to buy so I'm not sure how long it will take me to convince my hubby to put one on for us.

I bought my shower filter at Target and I know they had some at Home Depot too. I think mine was about $40 too and the only upkeep is buying a new filter every 3 months which I think is around $6-$10.

I ordered mine from aquaspace:
http://aquaspace.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=32

This one comes with a showerhead, but I think you can just order the replacement cartridge and it will fit any showerhead. If you ask for the John Barron discount they'll take 20% off the order.

It's supposed to filter 10,000 gallons so I shouldn't need to replace for quite a while.

When I first moved down here to AZ from MI...the water was so hard I itched like crazy! No amount of body lotion would make it stop!

But after 3 years, I'm so used to it that when visit my mum and dad's house and use the shower, I don't feel like I'm clean...I feel like the soft water leaves a film on my skin.

Our water is so bad that a water filter that is supposed to last 3 months lasts a month tops. Embarassed

Did anyone see this one that was featured on HGTV's "I want that"? It's a shower filter that actual adds vitamin C to the water and filters out chlorine. The run about $79 and on up. This one really intrigued me since I love vitamin C and think it would be great for more than just our face. I'm just wondering if it really is more beneficial than the standard filters.

Wow! This is why I love the internet! I found out some interesting info on this showerhead and it looks like there's another less expensive equivalent that I will be buying after reading this review and the test results:

This is from a message board on this Vitamin C shower head and there were some negative comments. This guy responded with:

Quote:
It always disturbs me to hear this type of misinformation being spread around the internet. For starters, there is nothing magical about the technology behind this shower filter. That is, for anyone that paid attention in high school chemistry class.

Both ascorbic acid & sodium ascorbate (Vitamin C) have a long history as dechlorinating agents. In fact, the EPA has authorized ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate as safe and effective methods for wastewater dechlorination prior to reintroduction into the environment. The main reason for this can be attributed to the fact that these compounds produce no known side effects to wildlife which can often found with older technologies.

Sonaki makes a pretty good unit (I?ve used and tested it) if you?re interested in getting the hand held type for your shower. If not, there is an alternative available.

It?s called the Vitashower SF-1 Vitamin C Shower Filter. It?s based on similar technology and performs as well or better than the Sonaki version. Plus, it only costs $39.95 + shipping and lasts a heck of a lot longer.

We buy our Vitashower filters here: http://www.ronin-online.com
They seem to have the most comprehensive info available and you can even call and speak to a live person before you make a purchase.

I've used this shower filter for over a year now. I've also had the opportunity to test this shower filter with a digital chlorine meter to see if it could live up to the hype. Put simply, it works and does exactly what it's supposed to do. I found it to be effective at removing over 99% of free residual chlorine from my shower water.

I encourage each of you to do your own research about this shower filter. And yes, calling it a shower filter would be accurate. Instead of relying on a physical media to filter chlorine it simply uses a chemical filter to achieve the same results with much better results, IMO.

Or better yet, just buy one and try it out yourself. My wife absolutely refuses to take a shower without our Vitashower anymore.

I recently concluded a head-to-head comparison of the top 10 chlorine shower filters on the market today. Using a digital chlorine meter and the shower in my master bath, I installed and tested each of the shower filters for their chlorine removal effectiveness.

Shoot me an email at reviewguy@comast.net if you would like more info. I'm always happy to help someone cut through the BS and hype and get something that actually works as advertised.

Don?t be so quick to dismiss this shower filter. You will be pleasantly surprised how well it works after the first use.

And then he went on to post the link to his experiment. I've only posted the link to the results but if you click on "home" you can read about the experiment from the start:

http://home.comcast.net/~reviewguy/results.html

To sum it up, the vitamin C shower head ranked #1 for effectiveness of removing chlorine!

Paris, we are toying with the idea of getting a water softener because our water is so hard that it discolors everything it touches consistently and makes everything very difficult to clean. The potential film problem is what worries me, though. I just don't want to plunk down a lot of money for something I may not like having I don't know what to do:?

Tina -
I personally didn't find the water to be so soft from the water filter that I felt the characteristic " film. " My eyes just don't burn from the chlorine in the shower anymore and my hair is alot shinier and softer.

I've been using water shower filter for a couple of years and notice a huge difference. When a filter is about to "expire" (probably gets full of chlorine and stuff) my scalp starts itching so I know it's time to change the filter.

And I agree, it doesn't really soften the water by much, at least it's still not hard to wash off the soap.

I think it's a great buy and recommend it if you have any sensitivity issues anywhere on your body.

No problem! I know, now I'm really excited to get my vitashower filter. I'll report back after I get a few uses out of it. By the way, the company that he and I bought the filter from also sells vit c bath tablets so I went ahead and got 20 as well. It says one removes the chlorine for up to 1000 gallons so just to use one per bath. I'm going to use a combo of the bath tablets and shower filter for a couple of weeks and report back. I have such dry itchy skin and since I hate to put on lotion, I'm hoping this will let me go longer between applications! Very Happy I'm so lazy! Laughing

The vitashower sounds nice, I'll have to remember that one when mines ready to be replaced. I noticed the bath treatment tablets as well, wonder if regular vitamin c crystals (which I already have) would do the same thing?

Thanks Girls for posting this up. When I was getting into the organic food and filtered water etc, my friend mentioned having filters on showers because when your having a hot shower, your pores are all open and your body would absorb all the bad stuff.
Now I'm going to put that my shopping list!!
Thanks for the reminder!!

I am absolutely shocked! I received my shower filter today! Shock I knew it was coming priority mail, but having ordered it yesterday morning I think that's still incredible! I did find out though that this company is actually in my city which is really strange since I'm in a lesser known suburb of Dallas. So, I'm taking my first shower tonight and will report back my initial findings tomorrow. I've already got it installed and ready to go.

By the way, did anyone notice that with normal 1 person use, this filter is supposed to last 1 year. I think that's awesome!

Does anyone know if this shower filter will work with any shower head, or do you have to use theirs?

I recently purchased (& returned) a "Jonathan" shower filter, because you can only attach the showerhead included with the kit, and I've become quite attached to my "rainshower" showerhead...

I would love to try a shower filter since I tend to have itchy skin, even though my skin isn't really dry (except in the dead of winter).

The product information states that this shower filter can be used with any showerhead, since it's the same fitting as a standard pipe. I had no problem with mine at all and tried 2 different shower heads on it.

So far I have minimal results to report after washing my hair last night. My hair definitely feels softer today, but I want to give this a bit more time before I can definitely say the claims are true. I did notice that the water smells a bit like Jason Vitamin C products, but I don't think you'd notice the scent if you weren't specifically trying to smell it.

This is why I love this forum. Many great info and tips. I was about to purchase a shower filter that has minus ion effect, but this vitashower sounds better with better price. I can't wait to try this one.

We've used Vitashowers in our house for about a year now and LOVE them! My first concern was not showering in all the chemicals that are in our water supply because, as I understand it, the warm steam from your shower opens up the skin's pores and allows even more yucky chemicals to enter into your skin...which is your largest organ! The side effect was that my hair and skin felt better and my shower door didn't get those icky hard water mineral deposits either. I first purchased ours at the Ronin Online site (I'm new so I can't put in a URL), and it was reasonable. The next ones I purchased were brand new and for less on eBay.

Big advocate here on shower filters.
