I know this sounds nuts and I thought the same thing but I had to post bc I want to hear your thoughts. I'm a sucker for an unexpected use for a product but this is pushing it....I was at a party and I was talking to a woman for 45 minutes and I was about 2 feet from her and she was very pretty...half way through the conversation the women mentioned that she had a son my age....WHAT!!!! I thought she was my age...so I had to ask what she used. She said she uses a cold cream to take off her makeup/lancome moisturizer and DIAPER RASH CREAM ON HER EYES!! The stuff that you put on a babys butt to cure diaper rash...I do not have kids but I'm curious what your thoughts are on this. Do you think it could work.
She has always used balmex so I checked out the ingredients...here they are
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Zinc Oxide (11.3%)
ALSO CONTAINS: Aloe Barbadenis Leaf Juice, Beeswax, Benzoic Acid, Dimethicone, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, Myroxylon Pereirae (Balsam Peru) Oil, Propylparaben, Sodium Borate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Water. |

How ironic would be it if that is all you needed? None of the hype, expensive cost, or anything like those super luxurious creams...maybe it is that simple.
Though none of those ingredients really look like much, but then again, I guess I wouldn't be surprised.
ETA: Did you catch whether or not she used sunscreen??? |

It has beeswax in it....doesn't that clog your pores? |

How would you keep it from getting into your eyes?
Seriously, I once went on a kick a couple of months ago where I would smear my face with a diaper cream full of zinc oxide before bed (yeah, the hubby really loved THAT phase!!). I figured the zinc oxide would be soothing for my pores, etc. Well, it did nothing - no change nor no breakouts. But I never put it near my eyes - cannot imagine how hard it would be to get out if it got in! |

Burts Bees also has a diaper rash cream that has no parabens in it...
Zinc oxide, sweet almond oil, beeswax, tocopheryl acetate & tocopherol (vitamin E), jojoba oil, lavandin oil, retinyl palmitate (vitamin A), extracts of rosemary, lavender, calendula, chamomile, rosebuds and comfrey root.
This looks a little better ingredient-wise, though I don't know about the beeswax and "pore-clogging potential" |

IMHO some people are just born with great skin and it doesn't really matter what they use. My mother is turning 52 in a few days and she has no wrinkles at all, a few expression lines around her eyes that isn't really visible unless you stare super closely at her or when she laughs, and small but slightly visible pores. She totally doesn't look her age and could pass off for 40. She was extremely poor when she was young and when she got older she used Clinique and only stopped that a few years ago when she wasn't getting enough moisture. She is now using Clarins. She never wears makeup either or sunscreen either. My mom is in the sun quite a bit too as she works with children. I mean we all know how bad Clinique and their ingredients are and I honestly think that regardless of what she used or even if she used nothing her skin would still be the same. Anyways the point of this post is I think this lady is the same - she'll probably look good without using whatever she's using. Different people require different skincare, we just have to accept it when we don't have as great skin as other people. I unfortunately, did not get my mom's nice skin genes. |

That's so interesting, some people can just put anything on and they are born to have beautiful skin. Others don't, like me, have to work on it. |

My opinion is that she just has very good genes... most of us have to work at it. |

My Granny has beautiful skin (albeit wrinkled - she is 93) and all she has ever used is Ponds Cold Cream. |

I agree that some people are just born with good genes....she said that she had tried other expensive eye creams and none had worked better than diaper cream. |

Wow...that's awesome. Seriously, maybe it IS that simple?
I might give it a try...I wonder if I can do a patch test or something to test out the pore-clogging potential. I know I've used Desitin on my nose (after a head cold...this time around I used my Calendula cream) and never had a problem...but I'm sure it depends on the brand.
Did she say what brand? Not all brands are alike...I'd rather go with something more natural like Burt's Bees, but I'm wondering if it would work in the same way...pending that it does indeed work for people.
But if she said she's tried other things, then, why not? |

the brand was balmex. I've seen it at my local drug store. She said the tube lasts for ever and she also puts it around her mouth. I'm very curious. I was hoping someone that is good with ingredients would take a look and tell me if there are any no no's in the list. |

ha. Obviously you couldnt actually interview this woman about her habits, but two things spring to mind for me in response to this.
First is, I know plenty of women who wont give their beauty secrets away, especially not to a younger woman.
They wouldnt admit to peels and botox or eyelid lifts, standing at a party, or anywhere, probably..
And, more charitably, I wonder what this woman eats and drinks. Maybe she has a super healthy diet, lives out in the fresh air, never drank or smoked and has early nights. And a very very good lover. |

I use this on my face at night if Im inflamed or broken out, I just rub half a pea size amount all over, it really does help heal things nicely. Does not clog my pores.... |

What a coincidence--- I just wrote a glowing review for this stuff today over in the review forum, so if you're curious you might want to check it out. The short story, though, is that I had a terrible breakout on my chest, compounded by a horrible rash caused by a bandaid, and this lovely diaper cream fixed it all up in just one night, so it's definitely worth checking out, ladies!^-^ |

Actually Liz, I got the idea to check out the ingredients from your post that you are talking about!
Your review gave me the idea to check it out, since Burt's Bees is usually a little more natural ingredient-wise...so I owe you all the credit for that one! |

One thing's for sure--- I definitely prefer the ingredients in the baby bee cream to the other drugstore brand--- the parabens are a bit high for my liking. Also I think the lavender in the Baby Bee cream really helps with the redness along with the zinc oxide. |

I'm SO willing to give this a whirl...
I just bought an eye cream last week (La Fleur Organique) which is great...but as soon as that is out, I'll buy myself a tube of this.
I'm all over this! |

I look forward to hearing your results. Every eye cream i have tried usually migrates and gives me blackheads on my cheeks or between my eyes on my forehead. I'm hoping this will moisturize without the blemishes. I'm thinking if its for a baby it is probably pretty gentle and may not be as likely to cause blemishes. |

Well, I'm interested to hear everyone's results, but to tell you the truth, I wouldn't put it under my eyes as it's quite thick and heavy. I don't think it would clog pores, but I don't exactly think it would be comfortable either. However, IMO the thick texture does make it ideal for treating rashes and irritation. |

I've heard of women using diaper rash cream as a moisturizer too.
Supposedly its the Zinc Oxide that is supposed to be the most benefitting ingredient.
I know when I go to get my laser treatments done, the tech asks in the end "would you like some of our soothing cream applied?"
When she applies it, I can tell that it is diaper rash cream from the smell, and I have used it in my days of dentistry as a pressure point detector in locating where the dentures hurt the gums on my patients.
It has never broken me out, but I thats only from using it once every 2 mos (on my face).
I may need to join Olivia at the drugstore and try this stuff on a regular basis, my skin has been extremely dry, and nothing is helping, maybe this will help and not cause blemishes as well.
Let me know how it works out for those ladies that are going to give it a try!

This reminds me of this interview Oprah had with women who swore by using a)hemorrhoid cream and b)thrush treatment ointment!! Apparently something in the products help them maintain beautiful baby skin.. I would be soooo jealous if it was actually just their really good skin responding so well to a heavy petrolatum based moisturiser
As for beeswax, I don't think it has a pore clogging potential any worse than say, vaseline. I have used many Decleor balms which are quite heavy without experiencing major breakouts or blocked pores. I think it also depends largely on climate, if you are in a dry and cold temperature, skin will love beeswax. |
