That's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I used the same thing for 2 months. I am using the 5% BHA and alternating with 2%bha/4%AHA. I got a sample of the 5%bha/10%aha, will try that in a week or two. |
Keep me posted Diva on the "big boy" Can I ask why you alternate between the bha/aha combo and just the bha? |
I need the AHA, but when I use it everyday, my skin is sensitive. I am just doing this so that I can eventually ween myself to use the BHA/AHA combo everyday. |

It's really recommended that AHA products only be used every other day anyway. |

diva, I read this thread with interest because I started getting hormonal breakouts on my chin [I mean huge HUGE cysts/zits whatever] around my "mootntime" last November - through process of elimination, I too changed my skincare routine - last month I was taken by surprise when my monthlys began because I did NOT get the hormonal breakouts! If I'm breakout free for the next couple months I'll know I'm on the right track.
Congratulations! |

Well, I hate to brag again...My "monthly" came 2 days early and yes---NO ACNE! I used to know exactly when my period was going to come because I would get a huge zit! My DH commented this morning, "Hey your face looks so clear!" What a sweety! |

Oh, and forgot about vitamins. I have been taking Vit C/E and a multi and green tea, for years. No effect on my face really. But, I have started to drink more water and eat more veggies and my face has improved so much. Vitamins help, but eating right is better.
For a list of the products:
AM
Cleanse with very gentle face soap
IFP DMAE 3%
Pearl Cream
IFP Clarifying Serum
Eye cream
Silk powder (gives me enough moisture
MMU
Finish with antioxidant spritz
PM
IFP BHA 5% every other day (evening)
or
IFP BHA 2%/AHA 4% every other day (evening)
Pearl Cream
IFP Healing Serum on blemishes, if no blemishes then I use the Clarifying Serum
Eye cream
So simple. I hope that it lasts!!!!!! I am thinking about adding some CPs to help with the acne scars and some eyelid issues, but so far so good!!!!!!!!! |
I agree, I would think that most of your improvement would come from your diet over topicals. In fact, I don't think topicals can do a whole lot for hormonal skin issues. It's also possible your hormones spontaneously shifted which is very common at your age. My hormonal body acne suddenly went away one day and I think it was just something my body did on it's own. Less androgens or maybe just less sensitivity to them -- whatever happened, my chemistry is different.
Did you also cut out a lot of sugar? That seems to help hormonal balance in a huge way. |

I think that it is a combo of EVERYTHING. I have always excercised, gotten lots of sleep, and eat my veggies, fruits, and multi-vitamins, but my skin was always bad. Believe me, if you saw the ingredients of the stuff that I was putting on my face, you would probably cringe. Overall, finding the right treatment and balance, is different for everyone. |

O.K. girls, I just have to let you know that I think I'm on to something for my hormonal acne.I also thought that the products I kept trying were responsible for my worsening acne outbreaks.A week ago Monday I started taking 1,000 mg of Vitamen B5(pantothenic acid),3 times a day along with 50 mg of Zinc once a day.To my complete and utter amazement,I have not had any new blemishes and enough time has gone by for the existing blemishes to have healed so well that with my MMU on, my skin LOOKS great(it really isn't yet,but I now have hope).I'm so excited about this because it has been years since I have gone 9 days without a new blemish. |

For other sebum regulation, I've yet to try any Decleor or Carekate Ylang Ylang oil (if anyone knows how these two compare, please chime in). |
Hi alibabka,
I just noticed your question in this thread. I've used both Decleor's and homemade ylang-ylang oil (carekate's original recipe) and I actually found my homemade stuff to work better. Perhaps it was b/c I was using high quality EOs and also part kukui oil as my carrier oil. I'm no longer using oils on my face really (I am using Zenbiotic's foundation pack and have found that my skin LOVES it). You could try giving each a try and see... but I would personally just buy carekate's as it's way less expensive and I assume way better quality ingredients than Decleor's. |

I think there is strong correlation between eating refined foods/sugars etc and breaking out. About 3 years ago I totally cut out dairy from my diet and then about 1.5-2 years ago I cut out gluten bringing down my consumption to only 10%. I cut out the dairy after realizing I wasn't only lactose intolerant (I would minimize my dairy intake and take lactose enzyme pills when I did eat dairy) but I was allergic to dairy. I would get really bad hives and my eczema flares up (in addition to digestive issues). And then recently I cut out my gluten TOTALLY b/c after many experiments and "eat-this-and-wait-and-see"s I surmised that I have gluten intolerance (probably celiac disease which I would like my doctor to check for the next time I see her since I have ALL the symptoms). Of course when cutting out dairy and gluten I have really cut down on refined foods. The point I'm getting at here is that I've not only noticed a change in my overall health (mood, headaches, stomach aches, etc, etc) but my skin has gotten so much better! I don't get as many of the huge "undergrounds" (as I call them... in other words, those huge sore cysts) related to hormonal fluctuations. I also don't have as many general breakouts. I actually cheated about a month ago and ate some regular bread and other gluten filled foods... I consequently broke out over that next week or so following my splurge. I've been totally off of gluten for the last month again and so far so good. (Fyi, gluten intolerance severely hampers one's intestine's ability to absorb crucial nutrients. So maybe the breaking out is a result of nutrition deficiencies.) |

Hey guys. I'm new to this but I'm hoping you could help me. Recently my face broke out with excessive acne. I mean I used to get a bump here and there but this is crazy! I look like a whole different person! It is really stressing me out. My doctor saw me and gave me a pescription for tetracycline and benzacline. Does this stuff work? And can anyone tell me how do you deal with facing the world when it is hard to look at your own face? Please help. I'm really messed up. |

beautiless I know EXACTLY how you feel. Same thing happened to me once I turned 39. Mine was due to super high stress which probably sent my hormones wacko For someone who once had gorgeous skin, this sent me into a fairly deep depression where I didn't want anyone to see me.
Now to answer your ?: Yes, I went on 2 rounds of antibiotic therapy (really, really helped) and use azeleic acid (for redness, scarring).
I can now happily say my skin is 90% back to normal, with the exception of acne marks (from picking ). For me, I think the biggest help (in addition to the above) has been using a good bha/aha (I use I Feel Pretty). I haven't had ANY type of pimple in 3 mos, even around TTOM If I ever meet Kim (owner of IFP) I'll probably kiss her HTH. |

Guess what? It's that TOM and I am again breakout free! I did get a blackhead on my nose last week and some congestion but I think that I put on some sunblock on my face and my face did not like it too much! Way to go!!!!!!! |
