Actually, everyone experiences this to some degree. That is why experts suggest using a "clarifying" shampoo at least once a week to remove buildup from hair styling products, as well as the buildup caused by some shampoos (i.e. "body building" formulas) or conditioners (especially those with waxes or silicones). Most people find that after shampooing with the clarifier, their hair will start responding well to the products that were previously believed to be no longer effective....The moral: don't ever throw away a shampoo or conditioner because your hair doesn't seem to like it anymore. Just give your hair a "rest" from that brand for a little bit, then when you go back and use it again it should perform as brilliantly as it did the first time! 
For those of you on a budget, or who simply don't have room for yet another bottle of shampoo in their shower (like me!!), you can create your own clarifying shampoo by adding a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (which will also help your color processed hair retain it's color!!) or lemon juice (this will also help enhance any blond highlights in your hair!) to any bottle of shampoo. The result: squeaky clean hair with no more product buildup!
And while I'm giving homemade hair advice, let me give you another tip to add unbelievable shine and body to your hair: if you've read this entire thread, you already know I'm a big fan of L'oreal Natures Therapy Mega Moisture conditioner/mask (the "generic" equivilent of the prestigious Keratese). Now when I apply it, I mix in an equal amount of pure honey (scoop out the amount of conditioner you need, then add a squeeze of honey and rub it between your palms to "emulsify" it) and apply it evenly to your hair, and leave in for the desired amount of time, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water and style as usual. Honey is a natural moisturizer and humectant, so when it's mixed with a deep conditioner, somehow it makes it even more effective and nourishing for your hair, and it also helps impart an incredible glossy shine (even before I apply my beloved Aveda Brilliant Universial Styling Creme!) and during styling, somehow it pumps up the hair shaft to give you incredible volume and body....
Okay ladies, the hair lesson is now over -- at least for today!!

I enjoy reading your hair tips Carrie very informative indeed! You should try compiling them up and make into a some sort of a guide-to book eh?
I wish there's a "magic" shampoo that will just color it's hair and do away my gray hair! I'm only in my early 40s and I color my hair at least every 5 to 6 weeks just to cover my roots and after few weeks, I can see my roots growing with those gray strands... arrrgghhh... 
Also I don't know if this just an Urban Legend or whatever you may want to call them... that after several years of coloring one's hair, it seems that the hair gets thinner or one starts to be getting bald? is there some truth behind this? Just want to satisfy my curiosity.  |

| I have hypothyroidism as well. Up to that point, I never had any problems with my hair, I could blow dry my hair, use mousse, and hairspray. That all stopped when my hair become extremely dry and brittle from the hypothyroidism. I have tried all sorts of products to moisturize my hair. What I've found that works the best is AG Hair Cosmetics. You can purchase them fromwww.diamondbeauty.com. For Shampoo, I use Tech2 for color/treated hair. For Conditioner, I use Conditioner Light. After I lightly towel dry my hair, I put in a mixture of Fastfood leave-in conditioner and a shine hair gloss. (I don't blow dry my hair, because that tends to dry it out. Plus, I have curly hair.) |

| Personally my hair has never been better than when I used Kerastase. I had the elasto-curl shampoo, conditioner and stlying cream and that is all I ever used. My hair was highlighted blonde at the time and it worked great. Have the MOP C System at the minute but haven't got round to trying it yet, too busy using head and shoulders to strip the brown from my hair so I can return to being blonde!! |

| hi pinup girl, i also use biolage which i love. i stopped using it for years, but when i grew my hair long again i went back to it because it keeps my hair so healthy and helps damaged hair too. i suggest continuing with it but also use a leave in conditioner. my leave in conditioner is joico's altima moisturizing conditioner which is a leave in/wash out. do not get the spray kinds. i use my leave in conditioner in place of mousse and hair spray. in the morning, after i have washed and conditioned my hair, i towel dry it and then apply the leave in conditioner and blow dry. the next day i rinse out the leave in (do not wash hair again) and towel dry my hair and then put leave-in conditioner in my hair again. i have fine hair that gets oily quick but if i am rinsing out the leave-in than it is like washing it, i now wash my hair only once a week and nobody can believe it. gaffer |
