I have been having a really horrible time with my skin. Quick background: last year I decided to go off all forms of birth control and since then my skin has been behaving like a teenager going through puberty. Constant hormonal breakouts and the latest thing are these large, deep, cystic type pimples that last for months I was using Dermalogical products but for the cost they seemed to be working very average so I have just been using plain old Olay products (which contain BHA). Anyway, I can't take it anymore as my skin seems to be getting worse every day so I need to switch it up. I am considering taking the drastic step of trying Obagi Clenziderm but would love to try either Avene or LRP products first but really don't know where to start as each line has so many products. I feel like I need something pretty aggresive to get deep down and really clean everything out. I know I should probably see a Dermatologist at this point but my family doc doesn't see a need for that and won't refer me. I am really really hoping that my skin is just purging and getting out all the bad stuff and synthetic hormones but it's been over a year now. Any advice and/or recommendations???

I can't believe your family doc won't refer you to a dermotolgist, when you have cystic acne. I've suffered from that for years (I'm 40) and cystic acne can leave scars without treatment. I would really try to see dermotolgist to get the strength of treatment you need for cystic acne. It can be tough even with a dermotolgist. Maybe you can do it without one, but for me it is the only way to keep it under control. |

I would stop using Olay, make my way to a health food store that sells natural cosmetics and talk to the beautician there. If you cant afford dermatologits, at least find a good esthetician, and do a one time consult. To me, worth my time and a little of investment. Good luck! |

Your skin should settled down after a few months after going off BCP. I too am surprised your dr wont refer you. Did he offer to rx anything for you? I would find a new dr. Cystic acne really needs treatment from a derm. |

I have heard spearmint tea helps hormonal acne: try researching this. |

I am a newbie here. Some other, more experienced, may have better advice: but... I like OCM, just started. I think it's good for oily skin and bringing out the "bad". Have you used retinol? Have you tried a peel? It seems to me that moisture is a good idea to help with the healing. Healing your skin may be a priority? I think that things to concentrate on would be: vit C, aloe, antioxidants. High quality ingridients are a plus, I like high end products and DIY (less additives). |

If you're not trying to get pregnant, you can consider asking your doc for retin A or differin cream (which is standard anti-acne treatment). If you are trying to get pregnant, you would have to trial natural skincare. Go towww.gardenofwisdom.com and check out their forum. There are a lot of girls who have their acne controlled on natural products. But just to remind you that it doesn't work for everyone. Just another avenue worth exploring. And supplements like Krill oil, Black currant oil and spearmint tea might help. |

humsters right, im 20 hispanic male and had acne for about 2 years and now i can say ive 90% over it touch wood with some scarring, all with a help of continious use of peels (predominantly Lactic acid & Salicylic acid peels and glycolic acid peels), change of diet (making fruit milkshakes with afew added stuff). Ive recently researched and found that Neem an anitoxidant plant also helps in removing acne and mild scarring but from other reviews too Hyaluronic acid is the new breakthrough aplying topicly or orally not only helps plump up skin makin you look younger but works faster than other remedies in removing acne and scarring (e.g. apple cidder and lemon juice) btw sorry for my grammer or spelling im freezing in ma room |

I really recommend going to see a dermatologist. Cystic acne is something that is not treatable on your own. |
