I've also heard Vit E is good. My sister in law used it on her daughter (she's 3) when she fell once and scraped her face. I haven't seen any scarring- but it could be because she's so young.

Helichrysum oil is naturally the best thing you can use to reverse scarring.

exfoliate often. this lightens scars. papaya is the strongest fruit for exfoliation with its strong citric juices. lemon, oranges, and tangerines work as well.

try papaya/kojic acid soap. many who used the soap says it makes skin 2 shades lighter (including scars).

also, look for products with retinyl palmate. this helps increase skin cell turnover helping red skin at the deepest layers of the skin get removed.

other good suggestions would be seathbuckthorn oil, rosehip oil(high in vitamin c), cucumber, and ginger.

good luck on removing your scars.

I agree that vitamin E oil will help. That's been documented I think.

I have read Emu oil is very good for scars. Also you could try Juice Beauty Blemish clearing serum. This is very effective in reducing blemishes.

I found some interesting information in this new post from the blog "Futurederm" about how to treat scars.

Silicone gel/sheets have shown to have effect on raised scars, whereas it's actually recommended to avoid vitamin E on scars.

According to the blog, massaging the scar when it's new, can help improve its appearance. Good to know!

I'm just rebumping this info up as I think it answers the question quite well!!! Thanks, Septembergirl!

Different types of scares should be treated in different ways.

Hypertrophic scars (the raised type) can be treated with silicone gel or silicone sheets. It's said to decrease the size of the scar and reduce the redness. I plan on ordering Dermatix scar gel with silicone and ester C in my next EDS-order in order to treat some small, raised scars on my legs.

Hypotrophic scars (depressions like acne and chicken pox scars) can be treated with cps, emu oil, rose hip oil or vit E oil in order to build tissue. Honestly, I don't know how much these oils will help you, but quite a few have reported on improvements with cps. You can also take a look at Boskis before- and after-pictures in the "302 Skincare"-thread on the reviews forum. Her acne scars and marks improved significantly with 302 Skincare products.

Hi people!
I would like to know if Dermatix (Silicone gel in general) is good to acne scar treatment.

Iīve heard a lot about this gel; but Iīm not sure if itīs going to work in my situation (little holes on my cheek).

Iīve just bought Dermatix (here, in Brazil, itīs called Skimatix).

A friend of mine said me that her doctor prescribed this stuff to acne scar treatment.

Could this gel help me in acne scar (atrophy) SOMEHOW? Is it possible?

I hope so! Thank you so much

Hi, filippem.

Unfortunately, I don't think silicone gels such as Dermatix will be helpful to fill in depressed acne scars that you describe as "holes" in your skin.

The silicone products are designed to flatten out raised scars and reduce redness.

I agree with skin care addict that Retin-A might help because it can promote the production of collagen with long term use. Copper Peptides might also be beneficial.

You may also want to consider dermarolling. Quite a few people on here have achieved good results from a combination of dermarolling (poking small holes in your skin with needles to boost collagen production), Retin-A and Copper Peptides. There is a looong thread about dermarolling on The Do-It-Yourself forum.

Forum member boski has had a major improvement in her acne scars by using a combination of Dermaroller, gadgets and the 302Skincare products. You will find a looong thread and her before and after pictures on the Product Review forum.

It's not easy to get rid of acne scars, but I think what I have mentioned here might be some of your best "weapons" to reduce the appearance of your acne scars. Good luck. Smile

Hello!
The acne scar arenīt so deep.
There are some fresh scar, reds yet (Iīve just finished Roacutan treatment).
Yesterday night I passed Dermatix, waited a little, and after I passed over a Rocīs product (with vitamins A, E and C).
My skin improved SO MUCH!
I must say that Iīve been passing hydrants for a long time; everyday.
Iīm taking (pills) VitC+ Zinc, Collagen and VitE.
So, I realize that Iīve been doing so much, and itīs began working.

Seriously, I woke up today and my skin is so better. Now, there are only three or four plan scars.
Finally, I should say that Iīve been meditating (yes, meditating) everyday; And I always image myself with a perfect skin.

Itīs working…

(People, sorry about my English! My native language is Portuguese)

I have a pitted scar on my hand. Two doctors, one derm and another one plastic surgeon, recommended me to apply silicone pads on the scar. I started applying those pads one month after the tissue that resulted in light red (or dark pink) scar was removed. The doctors said that healing takes long time and it was not late to start using silicone pads.

My primary concern is the color of the scar, I did not want to have dark pink spot on my fair skin. It has been two months now since I have been applying pads, and the spot is much lighter. It will take at least several more months if not more to make it close to condition I want it to be.

I use Johnson&Johnson First Aid Advanced Healing Adhesive pads. The pads are large, and I need just a small patch. I cut those pads into small pieces, and use those small pieces.

The drawback of silicone pads that they should be applied at least 12 hours a day. I keep them almost for 24 hours a day, and replace old ones with new ones. On a plus side they do work although slowly. I also dermarolled it once a week ago It is too soon to say how dermarolling contributes to my scar appearance, but expect a improvement from it as well.

mpstat - it's interesting to hear that your doctors recommended silicone gel/sheets on pitted scars and that you found it helpful.

The manufacturer of the silicone gel Kelo-Cote only claims that it will improve hypertrophic and keloid scars (= raised scars), not the hypotrophic/depressed type.

From the description of Kelo-Cote on skinstore.com:

Kelo-Cote is a patented silicone gel for the management and prevention of abnormal scars in the form of hypertrophic scars and keloid scars.

Silicone is the clinical gold standard for scar treatment and scar prevention having demonstrated clinical efficacy over all other forms of topical treatments and is recommended by the "International Advisory Panel on Scar Management" as the first line therapy for these types of scars.

http://www.skinstore.com/store/category.asp?CatID=8975

I used Kelo-Cote scar gel on some raised, slightly red scars on my leg. I would say the scars were reduced by 30-50 %, and the redness was reduced. I noticed the improvement within two-three weeks. After that, the results plateaued, and I stopped using it after three months. The scars that I treated were one - two years old.

Hi Septembergirl Smile The doctors recommended specifically silicon pads. The derm thought that the results were due the compression that pads provide, because skin is sort of glued (like to band-aid) to the flat surface of the pad, and somehow that compression is responsible for the way scars heal. There is no consensus on explanation of silicone pads effectiveness. It seems that silicone pads work on both pitted and raised scars.

I'm new to this forum, do you folks ever talk about Silkia Camellia oil for this type of thing?

Many people on other forums have mentioned that they received excellent results with this. It's super cheap and i think avaialble from goldport beauty.

I bought a bottle, but have never had the discipline to use it regularly, so can't comment personally on the results.

I did hear of a person who used it along with home microdermabrasion and her scars (ice pick, the worst kind to get rid of) completely disappeared.

I actually used a regular dermaroller instead of this tool. Just dermarolled the scar.

I keep applying silicone pads on my scar and it keeps on improving. This things really work, just stick with it and keep on the scar as long as you can. The scar appearance is no longer of embarrassing color, but so much lighter. I will continue applying silicone pads.

I've been using skinbiology CPs since May and plan to use my newly acquired dermaroller to speed up results.

I happened to notice that the little raised scar I've had since I was a kid, on my chin, has actually gotten smaller! It never bothered me since I'm using CPs for wrinkles and discoloration, so it has been a bonus. Once I start dermarolling, it will be interesting to see how long it takes to totally disappear.
