I'm really interested in the Megan Gale invisible zinc, but I haven't been able to find it in the U.S. I heard that it was supposed to make its way over here in 2008 with Elle Macpherson commercials... I've been to the website but can't find any U.S. links (www.invisiblezinc.com just transfers you to ganehill.com.au). Anybody know where it might be hiding? Or perhaps I'll just need to order from AU? Thanks!

Hi KBlang. I didnt know you couldnt get it in the US or Canada! Must be a cosmetic first for an Australian product! I am sure it will be there soon, or if not is available on Australian websites. It truly is the most wonderful, protective product. But again, as mentioned, its thick, as all zinc is, but very blendable! I just love it!

ddf organic sunblock spf30

it uses zinc oxide and titanium oxide which means i don't have to worry about the chemical effects on the water and environment once it washes off or if i go swimming in the ocean.

also, it's not greasy at all and applies easily with almost no white casts.

i'm sure there are other physical sunblocks which are quite good, however this works really well for me so rather than trying different ones, i'm just going to stick with ddf.

I have more than one favourite & I am equally happy with all.
Dr Denese SPF30 Defense Day Cream from QVC or The Shopping Channel- (this is also a skin cream).

If anyone remembers Mags the sun guru from YTF, she recommended Anthelios Fluide Extreme for maximum protection.

I used Super City Block SPF 40 last summer, like the high spf in this and also the slight tint- gives my skin a really nice glow! It's not a big tube but has already lasted me about 8mnths since you only need a tiny amount, so I think its worth the money!

That breaks me out like crazy. I'll try 25 next time.

Clarins UV40 and Shiseido ones are good.

I've heard great things about the new ZO sunblock - UVA and UVB and so I tried it! It's so correctly tinted that it goes on almost all skin tones (works on mine!) AND it functions as a make-up primer. Really awesome.

Is this a new brand of sunblock? I've never seen or heard of ZO sunblock line.

ZO is a new skincare line, and they have a sunblock in their line, here you can have a look at it:

They don't work well for my skin. I end up having problems with blackheads and acne.

Thanks HappyGal! Have you had any breakout issues with the Megan Gale due to thickness? And do you know the zinc % of it? Thanks! I'm just so curious -- OZ is definitely ahead of us on this one. Very Happy (For now I'm using Devita and Keys Solarblock, both of which I've been pleased with, but I'm always on the lookout for new ones!)

I love Toleraine by La roche posay. It has an SPF of 60 and feels light on. Not heavy and greasy.

You could try Devita. It has 14% zinc oxide, but no whiteness to speak of. It dries clear. I think it should be ok. And there are other choices if you're looking for physical sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast, but Devita's my favorite.

On the bright side, your skin has a built in spf Very Happy, even before you put anything on to supplement that. That's why women of color age so gracefully.

are any of these sunscreens clear not pasty white? with no hint of colour?

im finidng it hard as a black women to find a high spf 30 that doesnt have me looking like casper the ghost Sad

Thanks so much for that i will start looking into that brand i was thinking of using a obagi one but i will add devita to the list as well!

I have sensitive skin and tried over 10 kinds of sunsscreen products. I tend to feel itchy on my face as they all tend to be greasy. I tried Bioderma's Photoderm Spray and it had the best texture of all! Since using Bioderma I also tried purchasing sunscreen in spray bottle as it is much easier to apply!

When I was using CPs, I read a lot of material on the SkinBiology site that said CPs do not get on well with zinc-containing sunscreens. I can't find it at the moment as I'm on a deadline but I just saw this on the boards, which indicates that zinc is not recommended for use with CPs: I'll see what else I can find. Foxe likely knows...

Hi Dr. Pickart:
........... I also use a zinc sunscreen and did not know that was a problem until recently, although I have been using CP for a year now. I wonder if I am getting all the benefit from my CP (for example, sometimes I apply supercop all over my face and never get ANY uglies but maybe the zinc sunscreen is inactivating the CP??).....

and this from the man himself:

Women have told me that after using zinc oxide sunscreens, The pores on their face became larger. A small amount of the zinc oxide can be broken down by skin acids and release ionic zinc. This ionic zinc may be blocking the skin rebuilding actions...

All,

As I'd like to add CP into my am regime; therefore, I have searched the Skin Biology forum to see if CP is compatible with sunblock containing Zinc Oxide; here is the reply of Dr. P"

"The problem with zinc oxide is that skin acids can cause the zinc oxide to release zinc ions. These can interfere with the actions of the copper ions. Some women tell me that zinc oxide sunscreens increase the size of their pores."

Also, his comments of Zinc oxide & CP:

"The copper and zinc ions can react. So use them at a different time of the day."

"Copper and zinc compete for binding sites on proteins. Too much of one, drives out the the other."

I like the Bioderma SPF50 Family Spray. Comes in 400mls size. It is really convenient because one spray dispenses 1/4 teaspoonful of sunscreen so that you use the correct amount each time. I don't like the SPF40 spray. It has a strong fragrance (parfum).

Anthelios was all the rage at the old YTF. I never had any luck with this sunscreen and would tan/freckle right through it.
