my skin has been really dehydrated. Its very rough and i keep using bio oil but my skin doesn't absorb it. I have to be in a wedding in a few days and my skin looks horrible. My pores are very clogged right now, and im assuming its because of the layer of dead skin sitting on my face? Can you give me any advice to hydrate my skin in a few days?
I need instant hydration. I also have very dry skin. Please help |

Are you talking about the Bio Oil you can find in the drug store in a white box with orange lettering? |

Sorry but it's mainly just Mineral Oil with some goodies thrown in, Mineral Oil is known to clog pores and isn't really skin friendly at all! You might want to do a salon facial or if that's more than you want to spend exfoliate well and use a good clay mask to help clear the pores! If you can get to a health food store grab some Jojoba Oil very skin friendly and ditch the Bio Oil! I know some do rave about it but really Mineral Oil is just a very cheap byproduct of petroleum production and there isn't any other use for it except a few kitchen appliances use it for lubrication. That's why cosmetic companies can buy it so cheap! I think with the time constraints a really good esty giving a nice cleansing facial is your best bet.

Ditch bio oil. That stuff definitely is crap. I would go get a facial if i were you. If you can't afford that, then grab a cheap moisturizing mask from a store like london drugs or shoppers, even walmart. Also get a nice cream by eucerin. Preferably for the face.
Then, i would go home and wash your face with a very gentle cleanser. Steam some water, put it in a bowl. Place your head above the steam and cover your head overtop of the bowl. Do this for about 15 minutes. Once done then exfoliate your skin with sugar. Then put a mask on, wash off and apply cream. That'll help GREATLY! Even get jojoba oil is also a good "cream" although, you should be just using a few drops in a light moisturizer. |

i have very dry and sensitive skin.
i find that topical creams/moisturizers only do so much. the only way i can correct dry skin, superficial fine lines, and chapping lips, is to increase my water intake.
optimally, it is advised to drink 4liters of water per day. when i stay around 3-4 liters of water per day, i don't encounter any problems. when i fall to 1 liter per day, that's when i experience dry skin problems.

If your skins dehydrated, then maybe you should try out a lotion mask, like the one demo'd below:

I have dry skin, and this always makes mine feel wonderful and hydrated too (and if your increasing your water that will help too). Someoneonce told me that you need to take oils as well as water (I think I ws recommended fish oils) for the body to get used to using the oil or absorbing it (but don't understand the science part, just know that when I take oils and drink water, it seems to help my skin a little). |

I ditto the start drinking water and taking omegas! When I am dehydrated, it shows in my face first. But if I start the water, it will start to plump back up.
My thoughts on the bio oil is that it is crap. Had it, tried it, end up using it all on legs instead just to get rid of it.
Best quick fix for me has always been a 5 step microderm if you can get a good special at a med spa/derm. Clean, microdermabrasion, steam extractions, peel, mask for hydration. Takes a lot of wear and tear off in a hurry.
If you can't do that, try those steps using similar product types from the drug store yourself and follow by a really good hydrating mask. If you have a Whole Foods store around, Dr. Hauschkas rejuvenating and hydrating masks are phenoms to go get!
Or any samples of stuff from Sephora.
I do love Squalane and Emu oils, any Decleor balms for dehydrated skin, and my fave old standby that is cheap Aquaphor. Yes, it is heavy, but my derms have had me using it after any major procedures and I use it on my winter terrorized hands and feet. |

Use a glycol based exfoliant twice a day and I'm a big fan of Eucerine. |

I feel the same about the benefits of keeping hydrated, good facial cleansing with mask, exfoliant etc. and a good serum with HA and other helpful ingredients to get into the skin and then a cream to hold it in. antioxidants in serums and your food also help (lots of fruits and vegetables). I just tried the Dr Brandt...pore vacuum bha serum and it really works at cleaning out my blackheads and clogged pores in t zone area. HTH and enjoy the wedding! |

AfricanQueen-I just gave the same advice to my dear sis-in-law basically. She is needing a pick me up after a rough month on and off in the hospital following the birth of her second little boy at Christmas.
I always think the 5 step jolts your skin back to glowing quicker than anything I can do for myself, and it's the first thing I go back to when my skin is out of whack. Green smoothies and water are my second, sleep, third cutting out wine, my fourth. This time of year, that's what always does me in.
Good luck and let us know what worked for you. |

You may use masks every night, any hydrating mask is OK, just do it every night and followed by your regular skin care.
Hope this will be helpful. |

Sadly, I find La Prairie's Platinum Rare moisturizer to do a wonderful job of moisturizing and simply making skin satin-smooth.

LOL don't take offense with that. It's normal.
For dehydrated skin, I recommend after you wash your face, apply avocado oil lightly. Make sure it's cold pressed extra virgin. This helps my skin become more hydrated. I only do this at night and go to sleep. Also, if you can, try to drink 10 glasses of water each day. I try but don't succeed, but I know it's good for me to drink more water. |

hi everyone, so i went and got the microdermabrasion done. surprisingly my skin felt smooth, but when i got home it felt really chapped. My skin is still very dry and dehydrated. So i went to clinique and bought "moisture surge", i'm going to start using it on top of my moisturizer. And i'm going to start drinking 3 liters of water everyday. I'll let everyone know my progress. Thanks |

The skin lacks water and glycerin is the best and cheapest way to hydrate the skin. Drinking water doesn't stay in the body as you end up excreting it out.
Get a 30ml mister spray bottle and add a teaspoon of glycerin and fill with purified water. I keep mine in the fridge. Mist on at bed time or after makeup application. Glycerin helps draw water to the skin. The Moisture Surge can help too as it has some glycerin in it but it's cheaper to make the glycerin mist. I add a few drops of rose oil to scent and its supposed to be good for mature skin. |

If you use an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells once a week (no more or it will dry out your skin) and use an oil based moisteriser twice a day until your skin is restored, you will see an improvement really quickly. Make sure you get a really strong moistureiser, if it's not strong enough you'll get dry flaky patches on your skin. I have the same problem, I use thalgo collegen daily which is water based and an oil based one after exfoliating to keep on top of it. |

I love the thalgo! Haven't used it in a few weeks, not sure why. Will have to dig it out again for my usual Saturday Beauty Ritual. Thanks for the reminder! |

Drinking a lot of water + taking Omega 3 really helps hydrating your skin. Just make sure you sip the water throughout the day though instead of downing half a liter in one go, as most of it wont be absorbed by your body then and you'll just be running to the bathroom all day |
