It is my understanding that leaving the ovaries prevents "menopause" symptoms as you still have your monthly hormone fluctuations, just no more periods. The main reason some women opt for ovarian removal is risk factors for ovarian cancer. |

This is my understanding as well. When doing a hysterectomy, doctors will usually not take out the ovaries if they are still healthy and functioning. It's the removal of the ovaries that causes menopause. |
