I want to stop taking the depot for contraception and use a natural form of progesterone. Has anyone done this and how has it gone, how do you do it?
I am 44 and may be in premenopause, but on this (the side effects are awful) I havent a clue.
Any advice?
I also want to go done the bioidentical route if possible, I am in the uk and from a gut feeling I dont think we are as forward looking as you us gals.
So any suggestions would be great I need good ammunition for that drs appointment
TIA |

I can't help with the contraception part but I used to take Bezwecken Progon B tablets which worked very well (better than any creams). Wish I could help otherwise. |

Won't the NHS tie your tubes? Then you will never have to worry about contraception and pregnancy, which can be dangerous for both mother and fetus at your age. You can't just use natural progesterone for contraception. |

Thanks for both responses,
they would "tie" the tubes, I hadnt really considered that as an option, as seems totally final and in some crazy mad way I am not psychologically ready for the finality of it all.
I think I might just leave the status quo as it is just now and reasses later in the year.
thanks anyway |

What's wrong with making your boyfriend(s) use condoms? No condom, no sex! Or have him get a vasectomy. |

You could monitor your cycle as a natural means of contraception.
It's reliable for me but I'm not so sure how reliable it will be for others. (Hey, I've been married forever and my husband and I are extremely close and very faithful - so it works for us! lol)
Really at age 40+ the amount of days per month that you're actually considered 'fertile' drop dramatically. I think in your 20's there are about 8 days of the month where you can actually get pregnant. For me I've narrowed it down to roughly about 5 days and if any action occurs on those days we use condoms.
Too Much Information - but what the heck! lol |

Actually youve got a point glamcat, I remember when I was trying for my second baby (only 2 1/2 yrs ago) and I used a fertility moiniter and Im sure then I was only fertile 5 days at the most!
I also found out I was only ovulating every other month!
Thanks I have a few more options than I thought |

hahahaha...
Like I said, it doesn't work for everyone but has been spot on for me! I only have 1 child, a 10 year old, so for me it has been extremely effective!
BCP's actually did not work for me, hence the one daughter! lol BCP's actually really messed my body up and tracking my cycle has been simple and effective - but you do need to be really exact. |

For my husband and I, we would be fine if a pregnancy did occur, but going through that 9 months of hell at my age (40 !) is not high on my list of priorities! lol
So this method has worked perfectly well for us - we both know my cycle - it just works and I would recommend it for people who are in a similar situation to us where slight risk of pregnancy wouldn't be devastating. It has worked for us for 10 years, so I think of it as successful.
Per my other post, my daughter was conceived whilst I was on BCP's and I had a miscarriage 6 months prior. Once my daughter was born my OBGYN put me on the mini-pill and I almost went catatonic from it - it really did my head in, affected my moods - I realized that the Pill was not for me so I investigated natural options and started cycle tracking - it didnt make sense to me to put artificial chemicals into my body for the entire month when I was probably only fertile for at the most 8 days per month.
One of my friends conceived both of her children of Depot Provera (spelling?), and another friend conceived one of her children on it! Then she had so many problems after while still on it with excessively heavy bleeding, anemia, lethargy, depression.
