I was able to eliminate grains for a year now. I feel great and lost the bloat on my face. It looks alot more sculpted now. Occassionally (rarely) I will have a piece of homemade nan bread that my husband makes but I realize I am going to pay for it the next few days after eating it.
I really liked the Wheat Belly book and also his blog. Some great info. there.
Thank you for posting the article! |

So what do you eat? Just meat, fruits, vegetables and cheese? Is there a specific diet you follow? |

I eat in moderation, mostly raw colored vegies.... I am not gluten-free nor grain-free... I don't have this restriction.... Finding a balance in any lifestyle is a good thing... |

Trust me, I would eat balanced if it was a medical possibility. I urge people not to rule out eliminations- took me 30 years to figure it out.. |

I can't eat much grains as significant amounts of many of them disagree with me (and it's not always the gluten-containing ones that are the problem). Before I figured it out, I had no idea what was wrong with my gastrointestinal system. Not fun. So I generally avoid them and eat them rarely. |

Grains have a few proteins in them that people find bothersome.. I only have a sensitivity to one such protein which is why gluten free works well for me. I feel for you cm5597- that is unfortunate you are sensitive to multiple plant proteins. However I bet its even healthier to abstain completely. I'm not convinced that grains in any moderation are really that good for you. I used to work on skeletal remains of early peoples... I couldn't help but notice that the pre-agriculture bones and teeth are in significantly better condition than those that ate flour, corn, and other cultivated grains. |

Thanks, Ava. Yes, it's interesting that I have no other allergies or issues with any other food...other than grains. |

So I guess this is similar to the paleo diet?
It would be interesting to try this out short term, but I definitely wouldn't be able to keep it up long term. I love my barley and pastas far too much, lol. |

Grain-free doesn't necessary mean Paleo-diet. I personally eat mostly legumes, fruit, fibrous veggies (incl. greens), starchy veggies (e.g., sweet potatoes), nuts, and seeds. But it really could be any combination of the other foods groups minus obviously grains. |

I still eat potatoes and other vegetables too, no issues with them whatsoever. Makes it easier to eat out too, I just substitute some other starchy food for bread, and other vegetables remain the same. |

I've changed my mind about this based on some things I've been reading on Matt Stone's 180 Degree Health blog. Grain-free isn't sustainable so once again, I've added them back. |
