my opinion on the gray hair fad is this;

Sporting gray hair is like sporting a string bikini. Very few look good...but when they do..they look stunning.

i have no idea how the OP looks, so this is not about them..just my general observation.

But my thought is that in general, gray hair makes most people look older, plain and simple and to hell with what Hollywood puts out there. i was thinking this aloud while watching the Oscars, so many actors looked soooooo old just because they did the gray hair thing.

yet..if someone wants to go gray and is done with coloring their hair. i totally get it. Then i also totally get women who let their skin wrinkle and say the heck with that. Both are the same.

I just have a few grey hairs, and they really aren't flattering. I suppose if I suddenly had beautiful silver hair I'd consider showing it off, but the reality is that it's a slow process, with more or less grey in some parts of the hair, and it really just looks messy on me.

About hair damage: if you're using dyes with a lot of peroxide, could that be causing it? A semi-permanent colour that just sits on top of the hair and doesn't use peroxide to penetrate might be better. I've been using Tints of Nature Semi-permanent golden blonde, trying to keep my natural light brown and getting the white hairs to show much of the golden colour. It's semi-successful, with my hair all looking a richer light brown for a few weeks and few white hairs showing. Also, I'm 51 and my hair is still quite thick and healthy, perhaps because I've not used peroxide?

But it's quite expensive and I'd like a more affordable semi-permanent that doesn't make everything browner - I just want a really 'golden' colour to show on the white hairs (since it would be lighter than my brown hairs, it would not really show on them).

I've been so frustrated trying to explain this simple idea when I go to a pharmacy and try to buy a semi-permanent. The staff just don't understand it and keep trying to sell me peroxide dyes. Confused

I've seen some women in my area with long gray hair and none of them look good. I am sure that there are women who are walking around out there (that are not models and actresses) that have nice gray hair. I just have not seen it when I am out and about. I think the mistake that many make is they think they can just grow it out and not take care of it. Gray hair can get very dry and wiry for most people.

I have always loved the model Cindy Josephs long gray hair. She looked really cool. Her hair was shiny and looked great. I saw a you tube video of hers where she revealed that it was not her real hair, but really expensive hair extensions. Her real hair was thin and she had cut it short. She still looked great though. That was the only example I saw where long gray hair looked shiny and health and it turned out to be fake.

I think it can look stunning if you can pull it off.

I'm 40 no grey hair yet-people keep on asking me if this is my real brown hair- esp if I use the Phyto hair products, they make my hair quite shiny!

I do not really want grey hair, if it does go grey I will prob colour it more.

I have not colored my hair in 1+ year and then it was just some pieces that were navy blue.

I'm prob going to put some navy blue in my hair this week...getting kind of bored of the natural look.

I don't have any eye wrinkles yet, guessing that is luck and polarized sunglasses- as I am in the sun a lot usually.
Most people think I am 30,I do not look too old yet.

Helen Mirren's photo is lightened blonde, that is not grey hair. Frankly I think that women with completely grey hair look odd when it is dyed a solid colour and the red always looks pinkish so I would rather be natural than look like that.

I noticed having few gray hair when I reached 28. I don't mind though, it doesn't bother me that much. I love women who can carry their gray hair stunningly.

At lunch today I saw 4 women in their 70's, 2 had short naturally grey hair and the other 2 had weird red/orange hair and I preferred the grey haired natural beauties.

Sometimes when hair just "falls out", it is caused by low thyroid hormones. Get it checked by a doctor, if you haven't already.

I'm 65 with mostly brown hair, it's grey at the temples and it looks good except that it's gotten dry and doesn't behave. I'm using vinegar rinse, not washing it toooo often and adding a little argan oil to the conditioner. I'm also trying the sea kelp bioferment (SKB?). It seems to be getting better.
