Forgive me, please, if this has already been addressed:
What is the shelf-life of the homemade Dr. H's CC? Do you need to add an antioxidant or other preservative? How much should you make in one batch? I'm assuming it must be refrigerated. |

Hi Karmicarchitect,
The home crafted version of DHCC doesn't require refrigeration ... but I don't know what the shelf life is.
I noticed that the commercial DHCC had a smidgen of alcohol as a preservative ... not enough [according to their marketing blurb] to be drying to the skin ... just enough for preservation purposes. So ... since I had made a rather big batch ... 3/4 cup ... I added 1/8 tsp of pure grain alcohol to mine.
Hope this helps.

Hey there,
I do refrigerate mine but leave out the alcohol. It has been over 2 weeks and it is still good. I really like my homemade Dr. H.
Good luck,

Good point Hayley's Mom ... about the length of time yours has lasted. When I posted my answer I never thought to add just how long I'd had this container of DHCC on my counter! [Sometimes I can miss the obvious ... must be my age! ]
At any rate, I made my DHCC around the first of October ... and it's now November 7th ... so that's well over a month.
The amount of alcohol [vodka could be used I would imagine.] is so small that I'm quite sure it would have no effect at all in terms of the effectiveness of the product. There is no drying at all.
However, I've used no refrigeration with mine.
