I have vertical ridges (as does my mother), which have gotten much worse with age. I'm 54 and hypothyroid, controlled with medication. Each of my ring fingernails developed a groove that was so deep, they started splitting down to the quick as soon as the nail grew past the tip of my finger. Doctors are not very interested in "non-medically significant vertical grooves," so it took me a long time to find a solution, but I did: DermaNail by Summers Laboratories. Applied twice a day, morning and evening, it penetrates into the germinal matrix that forms new nail and reinforces the newly growing nail so that it doesn't split.
DermaNail did not take away the grooves and ridges on my other nails. I buff these a bit and use a ridge filler polish base. I only use the DermaNail on my ring fingernails to fix the splitting problem.
Hope this helps somebody - it sure made my nails look better, as I no longer have to clip them to the quick. |
