I'm wondering, what the the benefits of using Obagi over just getting a TCA peel (either at home or at the derm)? It seems like the results are the same, but with the TCA peel you get one week of peeling/downtime rather than a few weeks with Obagi. It seems like I would rather just get it over with quickly! |
Skim, I have never had a TCA peel done, hopefully someone who has had one done can help you out. I will say after researching the TCA peel for myself, I read that you need to "prep" the skin for at least 6 weeks with Hydroquinone, and possibly Retin A - but not sure on that one! |

Riley is right...you are supposed to do 6 weeks of Nu Derm before ANY intensive peel, and follow it with another 6 weeks of Nu Derm after the peel to help with healing and avoid any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. |

Hi rileygirl,
I got 2 questions,
1). During NU Derm, what kind of eye cream is better? can use different brand or stick with the same brand?
2). Where do I get Retin-A? What %? I posted yesterday, but I couldn't find the thread. Sorry about that.
Thanks! |

Poolean, you can use whatever eye cream you want with the Nu Derm. I am using the ZO eye cream right now, but whatever one you would like to use is just fine!
I see you found the thread about your RA question ( ), but I'll repeat! You can get the RA online at medsmex, alldaychemist, inhousepharmacy. |

I had really flaky skin for the first 8 weeks of Obagi Nu-Derm. I was able to disguise it pretty well for work by using a Ponds wet facial wipe around lunchtime when the peeling would start to get more noticable. I would wipe all the flakes off my skin gently and reapply my sunsreen. I would then put a light dusting of mineral or powder foundation over top to disguise any redness. This usually lasted me until I got home from work. Once I gort home I didn't care how badly I peeled or how bad my face looked. I would do my Nu Derm regimen at night and then again in the morning. By lunchtime the next day my skin would start to peel alot so I would do the wet wipe thing all over again. Some days I had to do the wipe thing twice but not normally. If you are able to go without makeup it should be easier to control the peeling. You just need to be really gentle with your skin. No scrubbing. You don't want to force any peeling skin off that isn't ready to come off. I also explained to my co- workers what I was doing by using Nu Derm and it was no big deal. After the first 8 weeks the peeling wasn't that bad.
Obagi Nu-Derm is so worth it !! I would make sure to start out with the right strength of Retin-A or Renova for your skin. Your dermatologist should recommend the right strength. If your doing this on your own, you might want to be cautious and start with a lower dose of Retin-A. Your peeling may not be as bad then. Everyone's experience will be a bit different. The results are well worth the few weeks of peely skin. If you have never used Retin-A before I would recommend you go through a dermatologist for Obagi Nu-Derm. |

My 2 cents, if you aren't prepared to deal with the peeling part of the system, don't even start Nu Derm. That is just part of the process. Do your research, talk to a derm, and if your mind is right and you are willing to go through a bit of an "ugly" stage, then start Nu Derm. |

I'm in my 4th week and this product is like no other. I had acne scarring in my chin area and it's gone. I still have major peeling and my skin feels very tight. During the morning regimen I use my fingers and sort of rub the flakes off while my skin is wet, during the cleansing stage. At the very end, I add vaseline because I can't handle the dryness and then I use a powder foundation and lightly apply with a brush. I don't visibly flake until I get home from work in the evening, but I'm also mindful that I can't stretch my skin because that would cause some serious flaking. I also apply vaseline to my lips before I begin the regimen, to avoid product getting on my lips. My skin is lighter, and as long as it matches the rest of my body, I'm okay with it. |

Hi Guys,
this is my 7th week on Obagi Nu Derm. Tried it once before about 4-5 years. as i recall, my skin was looking great, the product worked well, and for some reason i started slacking with the regimen... then just stopped using entirely...
...so I am back. I had minimal side effects before, this time, oohlala, redness, flaking, burning. My skin was just getting used to the treatments. I have acne prone skin so last week my dermatologist increased my retin A to 0.1%, and added benzoyl peroxide in the am regimen. Here i go again, it's like i just started. dryness, flaking etc.
I am gonna hang in there... i can see promise!
I plan to do a peel in a few weeks to further even my skin tone.
has anyone else had a peel while using Obagi if so, please share your experience.
thanks |

Good luck isa09. Stay with it and you'll be very happy! Sorry, I have not had a peel so I can't help you with that. I am sure others will come along to help you out though. Are you getting a peel through your derm (and are you talking about the Blue peel or something else?) |

Hi Rileygirl,
i see your posts all over. you are a busy woman. thanks for your reply.
and i know i will be happy with the result eventually, "no pain, no gain"
yes, my derm will be doing the peel. i just have superficial discoloration from years of pimples and blackheads (not true acne). she (my derm) plans on doing a mild peel... the blue peel is more aggressive than i need.
if i were patient, i prob would not need the peel at all, after the 18 weeks of Obagi...but i hope to speed up the transformation process. I would like to be on maintenance by summer. |

Earlier in this thread, I saw mention of using a zinc-based diaper cream to soothe redness and rawness from the Obagi treatment. Is this like the Action and Tolereen in that you should only use it as sparingly as possible so as not to risk slowing down your progress?
Thanks! |

That's my opinion, brenpatsa, that it should be used sparingly. I also think if you are having rawness anywhere, to stop all the products on that spot and let it heal before resuming. The redness won't really be helped much by the diaper cream and it is more for the rawness. |

Which did you prefer, the Action or the diaper cream, for raw areas?
Just trying to figure out what to buy! |

I've not used any of them, brenpatsa. The diaper rash cream was a tip from my nurse. I think when Bethany used the Nu Derm for a few weeks, she said the Action burned, but I am not positive on that one! |

im interested in trying some obagi products but not really sure where to start. The only problem i have is my sun spots or discolaration on my face. and since i'm in my early 30's i would like to prevent wrinkles around my eyes. I guess i'm both interesed in buying eye cream and for my sun spots. Can anyone recommend a line for me.
Thanks! |

Your very best bet is to to see a derm or plastic surgeon who sells the products. They really can determine best what you need to use. If you don't want to do that, or can't, then you need to give us more information. Is your skin dry, oily, etc. To "do Nu Derm" you need the entire kit, steps 1-5, with a very good quality sunscreen. If you do a search for Obagi, there is a ton of info on the forum about the correct protocol to use, etc. Hope that helps! |

Hello,
Would it be too much (or any adverse impact) that I've using the following daily for 5 months (started the program in June 2008):
Morning:
Clear, Nu-Derm Exfoderm, Professional-C Serum 20%
Night:
Blender+TRETINOIN 0.1%
Your advice is greatly appreciated! |

Hi Chubbycat09,
Just to clarify -- are you using the Obagi Nuderm products? And are you using them in the order that you stated in your post? |

chubbycat, are you supposed to be on maintenance? I noticed you stated you started the program June of 2008. I think if you are on maintenance that daily is too much. That is just my opinion but maintenance is usually Clear 3 times a week, Blender/Retin A 3-5 times a week, and you definitely could back the Exfoderm down to 2-3 times a week. The C is fine to use daily. |

Hi, this is the 1st time I join this forum, I did use Obagi nu deerm from 17 july until now is almost 2 months (8 weeks). Is it time to start maintenance period? (right now my skin is magnific) I would like to confirm the protocol for maintenance period is:
morning: Obagi 1,2,3(3 times per week)&6
nighttime: Obagi 1,2,3&5 (both product 3 times per week)
is it correct? how about Obagi 4? stop completly?
how long does it take for maintenance period? during maintenance period, on the day that I do not use obagi3,after Obagi 2 can I use some kind of moisturizer (in the morning) before obagi 6? at night can i use some skin care product after obagi 2?
please advise, cause i'm confused now.
thank alot in advance. |

A full cycle of Nu Derm is 18 weeks.
That is right on the maintenance (Except that the #3 is usually used only 3 times a week in the morning). The #4 (Exfoderm) can be used 2 or 3 times a week if you need (alternate days of the #3). Yes, you can use a moisturizer if you want when you are on maintenance, and you can use anything you want at night after #2, as long as it is not your night to use the Retin A/Blender. Hope that helps! |
