I know rubby I have been worried since I read of Bethany's awful fall! I am sure many are thinking about her and hoping all is ok! I know she's going to be sore, but hitting her head has me concerned. |

Hi all! I'm actually feeling pretty good this morning...a little stiff and horribly bruised, but everything appears to be working ok.
But thanks for thinking about me...it's nice to have such great virtual friends! |

So sorry you are stiff and bruised, but what a relief to see you here and conscious! That really had me and obviously others concerned! |

So I am going to change up the diet plan a little bit. For the next week I am going to try doing 2 liquid meals and one solid, with the solid at lunch.
I was reading in the book "Clean" that you need to have 12 hours between your last meal of the day, and breakfast the first morning. Liquid meals are easier and faster to digest, so there is more time for detox activities within the body. And that from a detox standpoint, you really need to NOT keep eating smaller meals throughout the day because your body is constantly digesting and there is no time for cleanup. He said to eat 3 meals at consistent times every day.
Suzy Cohen also said that if you are pre-diabetic/insulin resistant or diabetic, you also need to have 5 hours between meals so that your pancreas is not constantly assulted by insulin from eating all day...it will then be able to recalibrate itself to become more insulin sensitive.
So I am going to give that a shot, plus add in the treadmill as soon as I am over the aches and pains from this fall. I am going to lose this weight in 2010 if it kills me!
And despite the creaking and moaning today, I did make it to the grocery store to ensure that I had salad stuff for all week, and I just made a gallon of lemon water for tomorrow. Getting healthy is hard work! |

Those would have to be two calorie rich liquid meals for you to be able to survive on that. I love my green smoothies, but I can't imagine not eating solid food.
Why exactly are you opting to drink two meals a day? Couldn't you consume the same amount of calories, but through 2 solid meals + 1 liquid? What exactly is your plan? |

Hey, at least maybe some of the "experts" are finally starting to get it:
Compulsive eating shares addictive biochemical mechanism with cocaine, heroin abuse: http://www.physorg.com/news188995945.html
Unfortunately, I now have a new * spam alert * to kick: coffee! I used to only have some very occasionally because I'm really sensitive to stimulants. Now I'm having trouble getting through the day without it. I should have known better, and I knew I was getting too lenient, but wow, this stuff is hard to get away from. Now when I don't drink it my appetite is through the roof and I crave lots of carbs. argh.
I'm way behind in this thread, but Bethany and everyone else, I hope you're all doing well.... we can do this! I'm starting right now! (right after I have one more cup) And hey, at least it's finally summer! |

Rubby, I am trying to increase the amount of detox my body is doing, plus expedite my weight loss.
The book I just read called "Clean" said that liquids are easier (and faster) for the body to digest, which leaves more time for detox activities in the body. Plus it also supposedly weight drop faster, though they did not discuss caloric restriction at all.
But to be truthful, I have not succeeded in doing the 2 liquid meals yet, and may never be able to do so, lol. |

I'm back at my low weight from 5/16, but haven't seen any additional drops yet, sigh.
And next week will NOT help at all...I will be wining and dining clients for 3 days, and NONE of the food at the top Disney restaurants is low calorie. I am not going to deprive myself of some awesome food, but I will be choosing carefully and limiting my alcohol.
On a positive note, I doubled my Vit D from 5,000iu's to 10,000iu's and the increase in my energy level has been AMAZING. I accomplished more cleaning this weekend than I have in all the weekends together over the last 6 months! And no, I am not kidding, lol. |

Here's another vit D lover! My BHRT doctor put me on a prescription dose briefly, then told me to make sure I get it in a multivitamin. When I don't take my multi with D, I can really feel the difference! I become lethargic, and depression slowly creeps up on me.
bethany, good plan on not depriving yourself and limiting the alcohol. Allowing myself some flexibility prevents me from going on binges, falling off the wagon, etc. |

Yep...deprivation just results in eventual binges, so I try to avoid that.
But I have to admit that ever since I gave up the DC, I have had FAR less cravings for carby stuff. I have also had much more of a desire to eat in a healthy manner. Now I just have to stick with it!
BTW, I plan on starting the treadmill as soon as I get back from traveling. My bruises are still there from the fall, but my aches and pains are definitely diminishing. |

Thx!

Thanks Rubby...I will definitely indulge a little bit.
My doctor recommended the Pure Encapsulations Vit D 3 5,000ius (and no, he does NOT sell it, lol). I know it works because my test went from 11 to 50-55, and has stayed there for 3 years. Plus it's only 1 small pill which is great for that amount of iu's! |

I forgot to weigh myself this morning, which stinks because I am pretty sure I would have seen a loss just based on what I weighed before I went to bed.
Once I get back from my controlled gorging this week, I am going back on the 2 liquid/1 solid meal plan....I was able to pull it off the last few of days and it was easier than I thought it would be. And something is definitely kicking in...if it's not pounds leaving, it is definitely inches.
Between that and the treadmill, I better be blasting off this weight...I have already targeted next March for my re-entry into the entertaining world of online dating. Which means that I can yet again share stories from my "Dating Hall of Shame." |

I'm going to hang around and harass everyone here as often as possible
Have you read Eat-Stop-Eat by Brad Pilon? He recommends something rather similar to what you're doing, but only once or twice a week, on a regular basis. He supports his idea with roughly a zillion studies. (yes, one zillion, I counted ) I've tried it, and I think it has merit even though I don't do it on a regular basis.
I might pick it back up again until I find a way to manage the caffeine withdrawal, otherwise I'm resigned to some obligate weight gain |

Well it looks like I'm at a stall. It's been about a week since I've lost any weight. Your probably reading this and thinking I'm nuts, but the weight was flying off.
I read that when one looses a lot of weight your body has to adjust. It's frustrating when you eat so well then all of the sudden BAM your stuck! My mom says I eat like a bird.
Last night I was dreaming of eating pasta and drinking pop! Sometimes when I get thirsty I'll think I want a sugary think. Then when I have drink my water, it will go away. I will not give in!

I have to credit this thread for alerting me to the real dangers of my long-standing Diet Coke habit and giving me the incentive to kick it. As of today, it has been 3 1/2 weeks since my last aspartame diet soda. Yea!!!! I think I can feel a lessening of brain fog and hope to see even more improvements as time goes on. I pray that I can reverse whatever damage I have inflicted on myself with those nasty chemicals.
I have learned to enjoy sparkling water with small amounts of fruit juices...cranberry, lemon, lime, etc. I have discovered TrueLemon packets (crystalized lemon juice/lemon oil) and find them to be really useful, especially on the run. The Lime flavor is wonderful as well...the Orange is just okay. (I have read that these powders are great on veggies and in marinades, etc; keep meaning to try them that way). Anyway, I allow myself one can of Zevia cola (sweetened with stevia and erythritol) each day to get some caffeine, and I love it. Wonderfully fizzy and I really enjoy the taste. Can't drink it out of the can though...it has to be over ice.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you gals for your suggestions. I am so empowered to have made this important change to better my health and am inspired to make some more. I just bought baby spinach to try a green smoothie...just trying to get up the nerve to give it a try. |

I tested low for Vitamin D a few years ago and was given a Rx megadose to take once a week for a couple weeks or months, I can't remember. I was supposed to go and be retested but never did. I have been using the Carlson Vitamin D drops (1 or 2) off and on and am inspired by Bethany's comment to use them more regularly and at a higher dose. I would LOVE to have more energy!! |

Congrats on the weight loss!
I've been in weight GAIN mode for awhile, darn it, (I'll be HAPPY when I've lost enough to be "stalling" again ), but what used to help me through stalls was to just take a week or two and forget about "weight loss". I would "pretend" I was at my goal weight, and just maintain for awhile. Give yourself a little bit of a break, and give your body a chance to catch up. Then after a couple weeks I'd start over and the weight would start coming off again.
What are you doing to lose the weight? Any specific way of eating or exercising? I need to seriously lower my carb intake, but my body is sabotaging me...

Brenpatsa, Claudia shared a great idea that I have sort of fallen in love with - she blends some strawberries, a little lime juice (I think she actually uses half a lime but I've only used juice), and pours sparkling water over that. I have to add a little liquid stevia, because I have a sweet tooth, but it tastes wonderful.
When I got my Blendtec they also had a similar recipe in the Blendtec recipe book for a Tomato Lime cooler:
- one large tomato, quartered,
- a tablespoon of lime juice,
- 1/2 cup of cold water,
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 cup ice
I found these somewhat addictive
I didn't like it as much without the sugar, but the next time I make one I'm going to try using a very small amount of sugar, plus a little stevia. |

| Do you all refrigerate your Chia seeds? I bought a canister a few months back and they have been sitting on my counter, unused. (well, I opened them and tried them once). I tried them again today and saw, in very tiny print, that it says to refrigerate them. Grrrr....are they ruined? |

CRAP... I don't have mine in the fridge either.
However, I did mix a few spoon-fulls with water, and put them in the fridge... so I could add quickly to a smoothie...
ANY IDEAS how long that might hold? I'll probably toss, as it's been over a week. I'm not sure I can get over the potential cootie factor... |

My chia seeds from Hidalgo Foods say "Do not freeze or refrigerate." It goes on to say they should be kept in a sealed container in a cool, dry place, and the shelf life is 3 years with proper storage. Mine are in a bottom cabinet in the kitchen, and I use them so sporadically they last me a good 7 - 8 months. I've never had any problems with them.
If they smell/taste ok, they're probably fine..?
ETA - Claudia, the ones in the fridge might be tossable if they've been in there for a week. I think I read that once they're mixed with liquid they should be used within a few days, but I could be wrong.
www.HidalgoFoods.com has some information on that. |
