SONGES - Annick Goutal:
Although this one had the dreaded Frangipani in it's list of notes, I wanted to give it a try as it was touted as a spicy floral, and I love spice in fragrances.
Unfortunately, again, I could not get past the bombastic sweet, heavy, syrupy opening of the frangipani and had to ditch the experiment about 10 mins. in. I couldn't wash it off fast enough!
Too bad, because the bottom contained some of my most beloved notes such as sandalwood, styrax, golden amber and vanilla.
Alas, it was not to be so. I have finally given up on the overly sweet, heavy white flowers, and will not be ordering samples with these notes in them again. |

| Great reviews Sportygirl, shame about Songes - to me it is very well balanced. I hope you have better luck with your next lot of samples. |

Thankyou Smoothskin. I actually thought I would like Songes, it smells wonderful on my niece. She's been wearing it for about a year now, and its lovely.
I think my skin just warms up this type of flower too much, and that's pretty much all I can smell.
I can wear jasmine, and many others like carnation, violet, iris and marigold, so am only limited to a few, thank God! |

LOLITA LEMPICKA
I'm sorry to say this one smelled like death on me - literally! Rotting fruit and something akin to.... plumber's crack?
A gourmand of epic proportions with VERY heavy licorice and musk notes.
I've never smelled this on anyone else, so on others it may smell great, but on me...Angel on PCP!
Oh, and BTW, I can't wear Angel either.
Another one bites the dust! |

CHANEL NO.5
Although I did wear this frag in the 70's (yes I'm old!), I thought I would revisit it. I remember loving it as a teenager, and always received compliments whenever I wore it, but as with everything else, moved on to different scents.
When I first sprayed this on, my memories of it came flooding back. Sweet (not overly) top notes of neroli, ylang and rose quickly drying down to that familiar "soapy" momentary headiness, and finally into it's dry vetiver and leathery base, with a slight hint of night-blooming jasmine. So classy, almost... Victorian? Like being wrapped in a very expensive and elegant Chanel suit.
I have worn fragrances over the years, that I love more than this one, but this grand lady will have a place in my collection again, as a wonderful nostalgic daytime scent. I sometimes wonder what made me leave her..... |

I just ordered two sample decants of Caron, Poivre and N'aimez Que Moi.
Excited to venture out and try Caron!
I don't know what made me think of it just at this moment (to order)...but I'm following my folly!!! |

I layer my fragrances. I wear either one of these three choices:
1) MAC (gold top) vanilla on my neck
with Aquolina's Pink Sugar on my chest/breast area
OR
MAC vanilla
with Aquolina's Chocolate on my chest/breast area
2) Angel
3) Versace Crystal Noir
4) Body Shop Amorito
And usually I spray Calgon Marshmellow on my arms if I don't go to work.
I used to like Chanel Mademoiselle, but then I started getting a headache when I wore it. I used to like Roots something or other, but I found it was way too faint. |

Well, it was Il Profumo and their wonderful Chocolate trio that tickled my fancy today. |
Hi!
Where do they sell this brand?
Thanks! |

This is a link to the well stocked fragrance site Luckyscent which carries Il Profumo along with many other rare and wonderful treats.

Speaking of the rare and wonderful; I am absolutely wrapped up in the magic of the Molecule fragrance. This stuff really works. It is a scent that is very attractive to other people while you can hardly smell anything yourself.
I could, of course, only ever wear it with something that I can enjoy myself layered on top and I have returned to that innocent old classic: Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden. |

| Has anyone tried any new and interesting fragrances lately? I have been so busy that I have not been able to try any new launches yet, except from the new offering from Calvin Klein which I quite liked. I think they are simply called For Him and For Her - that's all I could see on the white bottle anyway. The one for her is quite similar to the Diesel fragrance; a milky, sunny kind of scent which disappeared along with the top notes. The fragrance for him on the other hand, was long lasting and very pleasant in a fresh, innocent sort of way. I would love to hear about it if you have found anything new worth trying. |

I found Bulgari Amethyst in Milan airport and London, but there are no more "bargains" in Europe or at duty free's (anyone know one that still has something for less than the US??? Please share, if you do.)
In any case, today I was in a Sephora and they already have it for much less than in the duty frees. It's purple, my fave, and smells good, but I can't identify like some of you can. As soon as I finish paying for my trip (maybe in 2009 ) I'm going to buy myself some! |

It struck me that you all can't be fragrance geniuses and noses, so I went looking on the Net and have passed a very interesting time as per usual. Now it's way past my bedtime again. But this is what I found about Bulgari's Omnia Amethyste:
FRAGRANCE NOTES
Pink Grapefruit, Green Sap, Iris, Bulgarian Rosebud, Heliotrope, Woods.
Believe me, it is lovely. |

Thanks for the reply, and especially the effort in finding out the notes I have completely missed the launch of this one and quite like the sound of a pink grapefruit with iris topnote, so I am going to try this as soon as I have time to hit the shops. It does sound lovely! |

Wow...it's been awhile since this thread! I remembered what wonderful discussion went on and I had to add some things.
After this thread, I wore Tiffany exclusively. Fantastic fragrance. It smells "old" on some, but I received nothing but compliments on it. Absolutely divine!
I never did order from Ormonde Jayne, though I've been thinking of ordering the sample programme again just to experience the complexity of these fragrances. I highly recommend it. I miss some of those lovely scents!
But I do declare...I just found a keeper!
I've just discovered a true gem in the fragrance world...that of Jean Patou's Joy. So exquisite!
I've been diving into the world of vintage clothing and hair. Joy, of course, goes hand in hand with this style.
Oh world of luxury fragrance, how I've missed thee. |

Is there any chance you could describe this fragrance? I have seen one advertised that is called En Joy. Is this the same one? |

Hi bushy!!!
EnJoy is not the same as Joy. Oh what a story Joy has!!!
Joy began as a result of the stock market crash in 1929. Jean Patou, who was a fashion designer, created Joy as a means for women to still enjoy his creations as most could no longer afford his clothing. He named it Joy to counteract the Depression.
Enjoy was created only 6 short years ago in 2003 while Joy is a classic almost 80 years old!
Joy is similar to other classic fragrances, such as Chanel No. 5 in the way that it begins with aldehydes. From my research, it is this top note that defines a truly French classic fragrance. This opening note dissipates quickly and opens up to a lovely floral bouquet. I'm quite the sandalwood and musk fan...these are the bottom notes in this scent. As far as I've read, the jasmine and rose typify the EDT and EDP versions but the true gem is the pure par fum.
In the purest form, there are 28 dozen roses and 10,600 jasmine flowers in every ounce. It was once touted as the most expensive perfume in the world.
Many who love Joy also love Chanel No. 5. I'm not one that is a huge fan of Chanel No. 5...too heady and powdery. But Joy is just lovely! Some may call it dated or "old" but I just call it classic. Maybe a 29
like me can't really pull it off, but I don't care. I truly adore it. Tiffany, a scent many classified as "old lady" worked for me. I hope Joy will too! |

| Thanks so much ParisTroika. I was at a shopping centre today and asked about it at several perfume counters but even though they knew the perfume, they did not carry it as they said it was too expensive. I will do some searching on the internet to see if I can find a supplier of the EDP. I was told that the most distinct note was jasmine and, if this is true, then I will love it. |

Yesterday when I was wearing the EDT, I caught the jasmine in it. I have a jasmine lotion, so today I layered it.
Just heavenly! I hope you find you enjoy it!
I hear that the EDT, EDP, and parfum extrait are each in themselves distinct experiences...I cannot wait to get the EDP. |

Has anyone tried those newish Gwen Stefani fragrances? Im strangely drawn to the cutesy packaging - yeah, I know they're probably meant to appeal to teenagers, not a grown woman
I haven't actually seen any in stores here, only online, so haven't been able to get my hands on a tester |

| I love the Lavanila fragrances. I am a Vanilla lover, and so they all appeal to me, especially the refreshing Grapfruit-Vanilla scent! It is a warm citrusy scent, it is so uplifting and feminine. |

Yes, I did try these; the ones I remember are:
G - Smells like that tropical drink, is it Malibu? Heavy on the coconuts.
Music - A happy, sweet berry concoction.
Baby - Soft, clean and powdery. Similar to the Philosophy Grace fragrances.
I quite liked these at first sniff, but when I applied them to my skin, they started to bring on a powerful head ache. Too many synthetic notes for me. |

Thanks, Smoothskin, for the info.
Actually that was what I was concerned about, that they might have that "chemical/synthetic" smell.
G was the one I was considering, but if it smells like Malibu I'll give it a miss - could bring back bad memories of being 16, drinking blue coloured drinks with paper umbrellas in them. Now that would really give me a headache |

I think I've sniffed my way around the world and back! It definitely made me aware of what notes I don't like and what notes combine well with my skin chemistry. While most traditional fragrances work fine on some ppl, they just give me a classic migraine! Something about the rose, the iris, the woods, the aldehydes....it all smells too "perfume-y" and Old Lady on me.
What I do like is a simple fragrance. Dulcis in Fundo is one. All it is is rich Mexican vanilla and orange. Not the dreamsicle stuff of Bath&Body Works fame. No no. This is a rich delicious sexy mouthwatering thing. Not at all cloying or teenybopper. Luckyscent is the only place carrying it.
Or, in the summer I like CdG Peppermint. It's an herbal garden mint, not the candy cane kind. So refreshing to the senses on a muggy July day when the air is so heavy you could cut it with a knife. |
