I have the AeroPilates Anniversary machine from QVC, and I absolutely love it! It has definitely made my core stronger, and gives me good all-over stretch and strenthening. However, just using the machine alone was not enough to help me lose any pounds, because my core is still not strong enough to maintain a rebounder cardio workout long enough to be significant!
I know QVC does not alway have the best prices, but I always purchase through ebates (3% rebate for QVC orders). My biggest reason for using QVC is that I am assured of no hassle if anything goes wrong. I have never had a problem returning items and getting my money back, and in some cases, even getting the shipping cost refunded to me! |

Marjolein Brugman is the spokes person for the machine, she is 54 and her fitness level is an inspiration to me.She got hooked on pilates after suffering from an accident. She was a runner and was hit by a car, the pilates performer was used in her rehab.

I agree, Toby, Marjolein is indeed an inspiration. I also watch her on QVC for motivation...and since I'm still a beginner, I also get new information and ideas! Thanks for posting the schedule, I'll be tuning in today. |

Welcome, birdlove! You have had great weight loss so far. Congratulations! Good luck on your goals! I also have been stalled at close to the 120 mark. I have always read that those last 10-15 lbs are really hard to get off, but hopefully if we are diligent and hard working, we can achieve the goal! |

THIS WORKS FOR ITCHING!
Sorry for screaming in capital letters, but I wanted to get your attention. When I had horrible yeast die off last year, I had the same full body "scratch your skin right off" itching you are describing...
Baking soda and water are a Godsend in this regard.. (I learned about this on my Lyme support forum). Make a paste of baking soda with a little water, and cake it on the area that itches. It's messy, but my goodness it helps!
I also have had pretty good success with a product called Candi-Gone, which is an herbal combo to fight yeast.
I hope you are feeling much better! |
Thanks, Bird...I am fortunately now at the point that my itching is pretty much gone. Yay!!
I am going to cross-post this on the 2009 Candida/Yeast/Fungus thread I started so that everyone else can benefit too. Nadjazz and I are interested in any other anti-yeast tips you have as well!

Bird, I would rather be stalled at your weight than mine! But that is some awesome progress...I hope I can duplicate that! |

A quick diet update from me....
I'm still plugging away, but since I have been in bed most of the last 8 days, I certainly haven't burned many calories sleeping and blowing my nose.
On a positive note, I had to see the doctor today to get some Rx's refilled, and she took my blood pressure. 124/80...fairly normal (for most people).
However, this is a HUGE improvement from my usual reading of 150+/100. The decline is due to one thing, and one thing only....no Diet Coke. Every time I quit, I can count on my BP dropping by 30 points within a week.
You would think that would be enough to keep me off the sauce, but I have been making the same New Year's resolution to quit DC for 10+ years, sigh. But based on a ton of research (some shared above), my beloved DC is potentially also keeping me from dropping weight.
Let's hope I can stay off it this time! |

I'm a diet soda addict too, and no amount of reading about the horrors of aspartame has managed to keep me off it for very long. (I'm a coke zero gal, myself.. but diet anything will generally do...)
That's astounding about the difference in your blood pressure, though... wow! Aspartame is a neurotoxin (technically an excitotoxin) that stimulates the neurotransmitter system, so it isn't much surprising that it can affect the autonomic nervous system, and thus blood pressure. Eek.. we gotta stop drinking this stuff!
I'm glad you cross posted my suggestion on the candida thread... y'know, it's funny, finding a candida thread on here. We Lyme people talk about candida all the time, because we are all really succeptable to it (antibiotics or not, as Lyme damages the immune system) -- but to find it here on EDS is unexpected. Seems that everywhere I go, I run into others with similar health problems... I guess there are just a lot of chronically ill people out there!
I don't have much to add on the antifungal front that you very knowledgable folks haven't covered already... diet, OoO, cycling antifungal meds if needed, etc. I was amazed at the baking soda itching trick though.. it really helps. (I think it may have to do with the ph of the skin?)
I was fairly virtuous with diet today, but didn't manage to get a workout in (I'm still sore from yesterday, though) -- will try to kick it up a notch tomorrow.
I have both heard, and experienced, that the last 10 lbs are the hardest to lose. I'm not overly unhappy with the way my body looks now, but would dearly love to drop that last bit... the last 10 lbs make a big difference on my little frame! |

If you have to have a diet cola diet rite and diet cheerwine is a better choice it has splenda and doesn't have caffeine in it.

They do make Diet Coke with Splenda, but not in the caffeine free version. |

Woot for ME! Something is FINALLY working!
I dropped 3.5lbs on the scale this morning over yesterday's reading, and 2.5lbs over my previous low.
Now this is obviously water weight, but 2 of the 3 offenders in my system all cause water retention:
- Sodium causes fluid retention, and I have a known sodium sensitivity. I dramatically cut back my Diet Coke intake, switched to the Splenda version 2 weeks ago, and as of a few days ago I eliminated it completely. The reduction in aspartame might factor in here too somehow.
- Yeast also causes fluid retention by increasing cellular fluid levels to counteract the toxins created by the yeast organisms. I have been on anti-fungals for a month, but just added a stronger version about a week ago.
- The low carb diet I have been on for a month also causes water loss, but you usually see that in the first 2 weeks. My diet hasn't changed a bit for a month, so it has to be one of the other factors.
At the end of the day, I'll take it and be DARNED happy! Woo hoo!! |

Well done on the weight loss Bethany that is fantastic
All this diet softdrinks are crazy, I don't know if I could ever give up completely though.
I do not think we have the option of the splenda in the diet coke here in Australia...
I have dropped very small amounts of weight but I have been doing lots of exercise, so I am just going to keep on doing what I am doing lol |

Thanks guys!
I went to dinner with a friend tonight and did pretty darn well on both portions and yeast-friendly food. After eating pretty much the same boring crap for the last month, this meal was divine! The fish was VERY flavorful and I enjoyed every little bite.
Fortunately, we are not going out again for a month, and unfortunately I'll probably see it on the scale tomorrow morning. But that's ok...one can't live on mini portions and rabbit food every single day. |

What an inspiration this site has been for me. Not only am I receiving great tips on skin care but reading the posts on diet and weight management has given me motivation too.
Just wanted to thank everyone for sharing their personal goals and successes, it helps me believe that I can eat healthier; obtain nicer skin; and loose 40 pounds (just ordered the AeroPilates Anniversary machine from QVC)
Cheers! |

Welcome to EDS!!!
Just a friendly warning...this site will be HELL on your budget. I spent more on my skin after coming to this site, than I had spent in the last 10 years on my skin! But honestly, it has been worth every penny. |

Kitzone,
Congratulations on your AeroPilates purchase! I just learned new tips from watching the latest QVC promotion.
So I'm following this Results Fitness 10-day program, and as I stated in an earlier post, it is kicking my a$$. The one segment that I'm finding to be not so difficult is the ab exercises. I believe that's because the AeroPilates machine has been doing a fine job of conditioning my core. Now if only I can get this layer of fat off, to reveal those strong abs!
Once I finish this 10-day program and give it a proper review, I'm going to start using my AeroPilates for cardio. What I learned from the latest QVC program is that I need to adjust the bands to get a proper cardio workout!
Marjolein Brugman's Lighter Living site has some great tips to maximize your results with the machine. LOTS of good tips regarding form on the Pilates page:

Wow, great job, Bethany! Congratulations and keep on going!!
I chose a cheap route for the pilates for the time being! (too close after Christmas to afford the aeropilates!). I ordered a mat pilates DVD, and I picked up this Danskin portable pilates studio kit. I looks to simulate the reformer using a bar and tubing. We'll see how it goes with that for a while as I save up my money!
Kitzone, Welcome to EDS! Please keep us posted on how you like the Aeropilates! |

Good for you Kitzone on your purchase of the aeropilates. I hope some of you had a chance to watch the demonstration on QVC. If not there is one today from 4:00-5:00ET. Whether you are interested in the machine or not the tips on fitness and "getting the mindset" for motivation is great. It is inspiring to hear callers give testimony to losing weight and getting fit. Regardless of the form of fitness we choose hearing others success gets us all motivated. And hearing Bethany's report is a great first testimony for the New Year

Well, the scale was only up 1 lbs this morning, thank goodness. But I was feeling much better today and headed to the grocery store where I stocked up on veggies for the week.
I am planning on weighing my food every day this week...that way I can make sure that I have my portion sizes under control, and ensure that I am getting the required 5-15grams of protein per meal. I hadn't realized that excess protein intake can also be stored as fat, but that is why my doctor has limits on the per meal amount.
The logging will also make sure that I get in my 5 meals a day...something I realy struggle with. |

I started the fitness world meal plan about a month ago.
I don't know how much I have lost as I don't use a scale, but I do know that I lost a little bit already.
The meal plan is a personalized plan based on a person's food preferences.
I must admit that I like it.
I basically eat three meals a day, plus two small snacks if required. For the most part I have not felt hungry, and I survived the holidays on the plan pretty well (except for the drinking part
I don't know if I am accurate when I say this, but I think this meal plan is based, or somewhat based on the Atkins diet. I have to eat the right amounts of protein, carbs and fat at each one of my three meals, and the right snacks.
Apparently the Atkins diet helps most with weight loss around the hip area, and this I have noticed straight away, most of my weight loss so far seems to be right there, so my tights and bum, which are my problem areas, are still big.
I also bought the recommended whey protein (EAS) which I normally have for breakfast as I am not one to eat much at all before lunchtime. I find that this works very well.
The first couple of days it was hard to remember to eat the right amounts at the right time, but after only a few days it almost became like clock work and now it seems quite easy.
The other big change has been the amount of water I am drinking. Never a big water drinker, now I am sticking to the suggested amounts of water, which I normally drink with some fresh lemon juice and slightly warm as otherwise I get tummy pains (when I drink a lot of cold water without lemon).
The only aspect of the diet I have not adhere to has been the exercise component! Hopefully in the coming weeks I will get to the gym, as personal reasons have kept me away from the gym during the last month.
I also find the fitness world pilates classes for beginners of great help.
Hope this helps. |
