I've shaved my face for years...I have very light blonde fuzz, especially on my cheeks.
I love how it makes my face feel so clean. |

I must admit I stopped. I cut myself last time I did it, it was healing for a very long time, I can't risk it again.. I better use Retin A for the same purpose |

I will not take the risk of having it grow out darker and thicker Shock . Fuzz is acceptable. Woe is me if it is replaced with hair. The only hair on my face that I touch are my brows (pluck) and upper lip (it's not that obvious so I only wax whenever I notice it). |
If I feel the burning desire to exfoliate....I can use a mask, the edge of a seashell, a scrub puff, anything but a razor blade.
In my experience, shave = black thick dark hair regrowth.
I am lucky, my eyebrows have never been plucked, they have a great shape naturally. Only between the brows did I have to remove permanently some hairs...and IPL made those very fine to nonexistent. I can live with that.
Waxed legs since I was a teen....now are soft and fine...ugly of course...but fine. Once waxed the arm pits...and bled. Never again. Shave...and those are a daily event. Now...the IPL machine is retarding the regrowth...so hopefully that may become less of a requirement.
Now have my own IPL machine [happy Bday to me] so Soon hope that the darker hairs on my face will be a thing of the past.
My mom has the full beard thing going on...and shaves because of that....Ahhhh...don't think I want to deal with that myself. No thank you.
The studies may show one thing, my experience is another...and u m...to heck with the studies on this one.
Mountaingirl...you are beautiful even with pins in your face. You are in your 50's? I can't believe it! |

I read this whole thread with much interest.
When I was 16 I started using Jolen (hair lightner) above my lips. As I grew older, I started using it a few times a year on my whole face. I have olive skin, and though hairs are barely visible, Ive always liked how it seems to "clean my skin". However, as I have gotten more and more into natural healing/organics- this last time I bleached it the whole process seemed like the wrong thing to do to my skin.
So tonight I shaved!
I was amazed to see tiny smooth lint like things on the razor--I TRULY hope my hair does not come back thick or dark (!) --
Right now my skin is very red- I am not sure it liked the shaving- but I will see how it is tomorrow before I freak out
I would really appreciate updates from regular shavers!!!!
thanks |

mariah...here's some tips:
Use a separate razor, not the same one you use on your legs.
Shave dry...I began doing this after I started the thread and it is the best way to exfoliate.
Don't press down hard with the razor, lightly go over your face, from the center out, going IN the direction of the hair... (no don't shave your nose )
You mentioned your face was red so I'm assuming you have very sensitive skin. I would put a soothing oil or lotion on afterwards (like emu or hemp.)
3-5 times a week should be plenty. Remember, the idea of shaving is not for hair removal, but for preserving your skin by exfoliation. |

Thank you for your response.... yes, though I have Olive skin, it is very sensitive, but this morning, it was Ok.
I did apply emu oil on it, but crazy as I can be, I also added copper peptides.
ouch!
I guess I am doing it for both getting rid of hair and mainly exfoliation.
As I mentioned, I used to lighten the hair a few times a year... but I don't want to use the chemicals any longer.
I also exfoliate w/aspirin mask about once a week...I plan on continuing with this.
What else do you (or anyone else) recommend for exfoliation? I have lacsal from skinbiology-but read some bad reviews on it on this thread (though I couldn't find an explanation for it?)
I have melasma to contend with-- and tiny wrinkles to avoid! |

update:
The day after I shaved my face
I was SO surprised to see how good my face looked..and yes-as many have reported: make up just glides on...so nicely indeed, that I think I will have to go for liquid make up now--powdered just is not the same anymore.
I just keep touching my face..it is SO smooth
I am so excited.... yet still a bit nervous about the growth that is to come!
Have not purchased a razor for my face yet...that is next on my list |

NO, that is an "old wives tale". |

Absolutely, yet it's stuck in so many peoples heads!
You don't get thicker, darker, or more hair by shaving!!!!! |

still shaving and happy... can honestly say that since I started (I think about 3 weeks ago)- I can't even see or feel any new growth. I have shaved about 4 times already.
Question:
I just spent almost an hour scanning the thread again looking for a very recommended tinted moisturizer/make up --that will glide on our nice smooth shaved faces (I usually use mineral posders, but they seem to just be sort of "wrong" now that my face is so smooth).
Anyone know what the recommendation was?
(I hope this is not too off topic-- but I really wanted one that has been good for a "smoothly shaved face".
THANKS!!! |

Glad you are liking how smooth your skin is. The real benefits of shaving will be evident as you get a lot older! As far as a makeup: I use Nancy's (NCN Skincare) Sheer Tint Mineral Makeup. It has very little color but adds a sparkle to your skin, particular when the light hits it. It has SPF 20. I love it. |

Thank you so much Mountain Girl!
That sounds like the type of moisturizer I am intterested in...and knowing a pro at 'facial shaving' has recommended it has me running for my shopping cart
Thank you again, and Happy Holidays! |

I just started shaving with the little Panasonic which has great reviews. It does a wonderful job. I don't like the sharp, stubbly feeling around my lips, though. I guess there's nothing I do about that. |

i shave my toes, legs, armpits, knucles, and my entire arms and just about everything in between. And i use a ladys eyebrow trimmer on pretty much my entire face except nose...so i might as well try a real razor...any way to avoid stubble??? Every man ive been with including my now husband has told me how soft my arms are (its due to shaving) but i dont want to shave my face daily to avoid stubble. |

Yeah...me too...Besides the face, I shave arms (very soft too,) hands (occasionally,) neck, of course legs...just about anywhere exposed to the sun. My decollete did not like the razor though. |

do NOT shave your face daily or you will definitely get stubble. best practice would be to only shave when absolutely necessary. |

After having my eyebrows ruined permanently by a wax happy esthetician before my wedding, I only use the special eyebrow razors to shape my eyebrows in a desperate hope that someday the hairs will grow back, and if I make a mistake, it won't be a permanent one. I would suggest that any of you with daughters who want to shape their eyebrows have them use the eyebrow razor instead of tweezers. You never know what the eyebrow style will be in 10-20 years, so they may want those hairs they've tweezed off later.
I admit that sometimes I use the eyebrow razor to shave a little peach fuzz off the sides of my face and, sometimes, even my upper lip-- hey, I didn't have time to wax before I left for the holidays! You do what you have to sometimes. |

Agreed. I think for some people, hair grows back darker and stub-bly. |
