You don't typically need to actually heat up coconut oil - you can just put some in your palms and rub together and the warmth from your skin will melt it. It'll also melt in summery temperatures on its own if your house doesn't stay cool.
This is so cool, I've always used coconut as a body and hair emollient but never thought to use it on my face (I always had the idea that solid at room temperature = causes breakouts, and liquid at room temperature = not. Now I see I'll have to update my logic and research here!)
Just curious, CareKate or whomever else: would anyone be able to provide similar breakdown information of shea butter, so we can compare? I'm curious now! Thanks so much to all for the informative thread, I know this started out as an OCM thing but I don't really do OCM and I still came away with a TON of useful information!!! |

Update: I noticed a little bit of a breakout as my first week went on - nothing out of control though and again-- I was PMSing -- now every morning (say for the last 3-4 days) I have had maybe one or two of the tiniest whiteheads surface (you know, the kind that heal immediately when popped?) Otherwise, my skin seems to be taking to this change very well. I am applying the coconut oil (very thin layer) under my makeup each day now too - however, the most dramatic benefit seems to be acheived overnight (with a good night's sleep) Will continue to update as time goes on... |
