Yay! Same Continent...that's what I was hoping for...
I didn't figure you were in the States, since if you got a package today, as there are no deliveries today because of the holiday. |

Trish McEvoy #6 Mandarin and Gingerlily
There are days when I don't really feel like wearing fragrance - it is almost like my sense of smell needs a break and I crave something light and clean. This is one of a few bottles I grab for on those days. The mandarin is sweet and juicy in the opening notes. I find it incredibly uplifting and energizing. The fruity notes swiftly allows a breeze of the gingerlily to set in creating a very fresh and utterly feminine scent. It helps me remember the carefree holiday feeling you have sitting on a beach and watching the waves roll in. Such a sunny, happy fragrance! |

I GOT IT I GOT IT!!!
Sorry I'm just so excited. I opened the package and an elegantly wrapped bundle of fragrant loveliness met my rather stuffy nose (I can still smell a little bit...can't wait until I get over this cold!)
They sprayed the tissue with something absolutely DIVINE!!! I'm so excited to try these!!!!
Thank you thank you Smoothskin for mentioning this!!! There's even one for my husband He'll be smellin' all sophisticated come Christmas!!!
ETA: I can't stop smelling the tissue paper...haha. It's unlike any fragrance I've ever experienced. I'm going to refrain (very hard!) from trying any of them until my cold clears up so I can truly test each one.
I wanted to wait until my trip to try them, but I don't know if I can wait that long!!! |

Oh, how exciting! Now you have to decide which one to try first - they are all so lovely and the men's fragrance is incredibly alluring. The presentation is also very chic. I look forward to read your musings on these and wish you happy sniffing |

Quick question for you Smoothskin, is Isfarkand just for men? It turns out this is the one that was spritz on my tissue paper. I'm actually loving it...and I read on a blog that it is more "unisex" than solely "pour homme."
What do you think? I might just spray this on my husband and follow him around all day...sigh.
I haven't tried any other, yet. |

Personally, I think some men's fragrances smell great on women. It's worth trying it on yourself to see if you like it, I reckon.
Sadly, I haven't ordered my samples yet as my budget won't allow it. Will have to wait until the middle of next month. |

Maybe this fragrance just works with my chemistry. I know a few on MUA say it is distinctly "male" but I just can't picture it. If this is the one that "is me" out of all the others, then I'd have no second thought about saving up to purchase it.
I wore it last night while I worked a show at a local bar. I've been under the weather, so even though I didn't feel like dressing up in the least, I threw on some makeup and spritz this in two places, my wrists and then dotted my neck with my wrists. I thought it would fade in no time...I usually have to layer (as I've said before) and spritz more than once to get something to stay.
The bar was the usual, smokey, stuffy, the works. I was running all over the place, getting kinda sweaty and gross...but I could still smell it on me in the bar, backstage and in the car afterwards. I honestly thought fragrance was just fragrance and I either liked a scent or not. But, after my first experience with this Ormonde Jayne, I now realize what true "fragrance" is. I'd describe this one as alluring. That's the first word that comes to my mind. It warmed on me and every time I caught it while I was running around on-stage, backstage, making sure performers were where they were supposed to be, I couldn't help but smile...silly I know.
I even woke up this morning and still could catch it lingering ever so faintly. Absolutely wonderful.
This has something that even Tiffany Trueste didn't have for me (my hands down, all time favorite). No Chanel, Gucci, Prada, etc scent has ever been like this. I can't describe what sets it apart. Does it smell expensive? Maybe...but it's so much deeper than that. Going back to my Chanel, Mademoiselle smells so flat, so one-dimensional compared to this.
I think this "flatness" is what sets the designer brand names scents that you buy in a department store apart from the small perfumeries in Europe. I'm so taken with this, that if after I try all of them and know which one is for me, if I'm as in love with that fragrance (or moreso!) I'm seriously contemplating waiting as long as it takes to save up, pay off my credit card, and buy one of their gift sets (more expensive than I've ever spent on a fragrance). But at least when I experienced this first one (and that is the best way to describe it..."experience") I felt as if I couldn't be without it!
I had set aside this one and Ormonde pour homme for my husband over Christmas to use while we're back. I might not let him have this one!!! I wonder if fragrance is like a wedding dress...you KNOW when you put it on that this is the one for you.
I know one thing. I MUST try the rest of these. I simply cannot wait three weeks until I go on my trip.
Luckily it takes so little to last so long...so once I go through them all, I'll save them for my trip back home. All of my skincare and makeup "lemmings" have now been put on hold. I'm solely focused on this now. |

Just to add...
I've started a "Fragrance Diary" of sorts. I'm writing down my first impression of the scent (I'm now wearing OJ Osmanthus), how it changes on me, do I think I'd wear it alot, is it "me" in a bottle , things like that.
As I walk around the house and time passes I go back to my computer, pull up my little diary (aka a MS document) and write down what I'm feeling about it. I'm hoping that this will make it easier in the long run, if I'm really liking more than one, to narrow down one. But I'm not sure I'll need to.
I plan on not ordering until I'm absolutely positive...if that means I go through ALL the samples entirely, (which would mean weeks...there's a week's worth in each I believe...5-7 days worth, you need so little!). I know myself. Sometimes I don't like something at first, then it grows on me...like Fresh Sake.
So here goes another experiment! |

| Wow, ParisTroika, I am delighted to hear that these fragrances have sparked such passion in you and that you are having a wonderful time discovering them. I really enjoyed reading about your evening with Isfarkand. You can wear a man's fragrance, sure, "if it feels right wear it". On another hand it would be a beautiful gesture to give a fragrance that you love so much to the person you love. I look forward to reading more of your fragrance notes. |

Hi Paris - just a little update - I received the perfumes about five minutes ago and the little vials are actually spray bottles, so very easy to use, and enough for about a week in each, at least for me anyway!
It will take me 8 or 9 days to try them all out so will update when I've "graded them all".
I have the frangipani on, but right now... undecided! |
sportygirl...I hope you are enjoying the samples as much as I am! If you post a review on all of them in a thread, I'll add mine when I've completed them all (I'm doing one a day...I'll be done by Saturday).
I'm beginning to understand more what attracts me to fragrances...I've been reading the compositions of each fragrance as I try them out, I think I'm starting to be able to narrow in on which "notes" I like and which ones I'm not crazy about. It's very interesting!!! I never knew fragrances could be so complex...granted, one of them smells rather flat to me, but I'm starting to be able to distinguish between different notes and pick out certain elements. Which I couldn't do before with my run-of-the-mill fragrances.
This has been one of my best purchases in a long while!
ETA: I'm most looking forward to trying Ta'if (maybe it's because I'm a Middle Eastern studies major, being the heart of this fragrance is found there), Tolu, and Ormonde Woman.
I just adored Isfarkand...still my first choice...I'm actually kind of hoping to fall in love with a different one, as this one only comes in the EDP (no lotion, which I'm now totally willing to save up for and purchase in order to make the scent last longer) since it is a man's fragrance. Linda should really consider adding a lotion as I know I'm not the only woman to like it... |

Hi Paris,
I'm really enjoying trying these fragrances out too, although so far, I do have a least favorite and favorite! I liked the frangipani the least and actually had to wash it off before the initial dry-down time of 20 mins. to get to the "bottom" notes. I like the Tolu the best, but unfortunately have not really fallen in love with any of them so far.
I have Orris Noir, Champaca and Sampaquita to go, so we'll see.... |

My least favorite is the Osmanthus so far. Today I'm wearing the Sampaquita...good staying power, it starts out light anyway...but not impressed by the scent.
Isfarkand is still my favorite...
I've tried Osmanthus, Isfarkand, Frangipani Absolute and now Sampaquita. Tomorrow is Champaca...we'll see! |

Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise
This is one of my favorite fragrances ever. It is impossible to distinguish individual notes in this tropical fantasy floral. It is fresh, fruity and floral at the same time and allthough it is in a way instantly reckognisable, it is almost like you forget it... When someone wears this I often just think "such a perfectly rounded floral bouquet". It is like every beautiful fragrance rolled into one, all at once clean, sharp, fruity, fresh and then... something else... something that is universally attractive. To me; it is a hot, humid night in Bermuda, walking along a pink sandy beach and settling down for a Pina Colada in a luxurious Miami Vice style bar. I know, I know, I get carried away sometimes, but more by this scent then anything else. I appreciate so many rare and wonderful scents, but none more than this extremely accesible rainbow coloured bottle. Try wearing it on a rusty Autumn day and I guarantee that tropical holiday feeling will linger close to your skin and lift your mood. I can't believe I've said it; this is my favorite fragrance. But, then again, that could change on Thursday. I will keep you posted. And, come on everyone, please tell me you too love this fragrane |

I don't normally like sweet "florals" unless they have a little spice or white amber in them, but this one reminds me of those lovely romantic victorian scents like Bellodgia and Sand & Sable, both of which I wore and loved. Of course that was before my oriental/floral fragrances * spam alert * kicked in. Beyond Paradise is a beautiful, soft and sexy scent that I think most women would appreciate! |

I have become very fond of spicy/floral/oriental type scents over the last few years and now nothing else seems to hold that "magic" for me! I did try a few of the heavier oriental-type scents like Obsession many years ago but did not like them much. Then I tried Opium Summer, which I love, and it just kind of snow-balled from there. I haven't tried the two you mentioned in your post (although I may now), but I do have Norell, which is supposed to be quite similar to Songes. I also love Arabie and Nocturnes D' Caron. Bellodgia is also considered an oriental-type romantic floral (maybe that's why I was drawn to it) so may have to try it again sometime in the near future. I haven't had this one for about 10 years, but always remember loving it! Hope I can still find it! I probably won't be purchasing any new frgrances for a while as I have quite a few to get through.
I'm not a "signature" scent kind of girl, so will continue to look for beautiful and exciting new fragrances. After all, there's a whole world of them out there! |

Sorry - I said that Bellogia was considered an oriental romantic, I actually meant spicy romantic floral, for those of you who may have been thinking "Opium" or "Mackie"! Nothing like these! |

I need your recommendations. I'm buying my mom a perfume gift for Christmas. I've bought her Diorissimo before which is a fresh floral scent and she enjoyed that. This time I want to send her something different. Also floral and fresh with top notes of Ylang-Ylang that she can wear during the daytime but not overpowering and no hints of musk (that Sampaguita and Champaca mentioned earlier sounds like something she would like). What do you think of the following:
Imagine by Ellen Tracy
Organza First Light by Givenchy
Classique Summer by Jean Paul Gaultier
Curve by Liz Claiborne
Aqua Allegoria Ylang & Vanilla by Guerlain
L'Instant by Guerlain
Songes Perfume by Annick Goutal
Gardenia Passion by Annick Goutal
BTW, she is over 60. |

This is a beautiful extremely feminine and sexy scent which I think is fabulous for intimite evenings. Think romantic Old Hollywood. Very classy and nothing like the usual drugstore fare. This one is unique with delicate florals and a hint of sensual white musk. Gorgeous!
I must however add, that the original is no longer available. It had a lovely glass bottle with a round crystal top and the notes were a little deeper, but still, the EDT in the new bottle is almost as lovely! |

The only one I can think of with ylang ylang in the top notes that also has a fresh floral scent is Elizabeth Arden's Provocative Woman. It is touted as a light oriental floral, but smells much too "fresh" to be the type of oriental I would go for. I prefer warmer, more spicy fragrances.
The Sampaquita and Champaca scents are quite musky, and have very complex middle and bottom notes like ambrette seed, muguet, basmati and myrrh.
If she likes fresh floral scents, these would probably not be for her. HTH's |

Fragrances! I don't know if it's been raved about before, but have any of you tried bpal? (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab)
They describe their fragrances as "gothic" but it's hardly that! They must have over a hundred different perfume blends and some are the lightest, lovliest scents I've ever tried. I highly recommend them, plus their prices are very reasonable too, from $15 to $25 for a 5mL bottle of pure, concentrated perfume oil (undiluted so they last!)... plus they offer 1mL samples of many of their scents too for $3.50 I believe. |

Just a suggestion, but, as fragrances are a very personal choice and smell different according to skin chemistry, I wonder if it might be possible to obtain sample vials of those and present them to her in a gift box at Christmas. Then, she could try to see which she loves most so you could buy that for her. The only problem being that she'd have to wait a little while for her "proper" gift. |
