I have been to HongKong a couple times, last time was last year. I think you can get Valmont at really good prices in HK.
I loving using sheet masks so I bought quite a few from Watsons. |
I havent tried Valmont products...they're too expensive for me
Yeah, I agree the facial sheets are so convenient to use-- slap it on the face, 15 minutes, whip it off and into the bin it goes!
I think Im gonna try to buy a few boxes of those facial sheets but not sure which brand to get--I've only tried a cheapo brand from Watsons, Sewame and Isa Workshops, but none of them worked and in fact has broken my skin out
Maybe I'll try some higher end Japanese or Korean brands this time round |

Sorry for the continuing hijack, but what are these "facial sheets" you guys are discussing? I've never heard of them before! |

Those facial sheets/paper masks are really popular in Asia.
Its just basically a moisture soaked sheet that you open up and spread onto you face, like the SKII facial treatment masks.
Here's a pic of one from fancl:

Wow, thanks, I'd never heard of those before! One more thing I may potentially end up spending money on thanks to EDS. Thanks though, good moisture masks are always nice to come by. |

Can the 100ml bottles that you can take on board be plain with no writing on them, or do they have to be the actual bottle of what is in them? Some of the cleansers and creams I use are not available to buy in less than 100ml so I would like to buy plain bottles and decant into them. |

You definitely can decant into smaller bottles. Many places (pharmacies, chain stores) now sell actual kits with mini bottles and a zip up clear baggie made just for this purpose. |

Yeahyeah, iamei see if you can get this sheet mask by Kiss Me (as in Sunkiller) from Bonjour or Sasa, it's by far one of the best hydrating sheet masks i've used and tres good value! |

I think it is really important they you are hydrated before during and after your flight. I try to wear only moisturizer (no makeup), otherwise I found myself breaking out later. I usually take a small bottle of moisturizer, lip balm, eye drops and toner. |

I agree with you. Usually I would do a hydrating mask before I leave for airport and one after I arrive. I am leery of putting anything onto my face on the plane - I always worried that my fingers may not be clean enough. |

Agreed - planes are never clean enough. Maybe I should add one more recommendation...shower as soon as possible! |

I know some of them that is pretty popular now and also cheap. One is Kose Q10 and the other is lifecella. |

Wow! This is really turning into a thread hijack now but seeing as your asking the questions yeahyeah then i'm obliged to answer the brand of sheet mask i was referring to is a Kiss me one. Compared to the endless others that are on offer-eg Kose, Kanebo, Lifecella, placenta collegen types i found the Kiss me one really the MOST hydrating it's the type where you don't rinse off but massage in the rest of the serum or whatever is on the sheet into your face then carry on with your regime so best done before bed. Yes i've tried the Laneige sleeping pack too i think there's a plus version out too now(a bit like Clinique's moisure surge but better i thought) but they're all the fashion in asia at the mo.Just go visit your nearest Bonjour or Sasa and enjoy having a look at ALL the brands and cos they're quite cheap you can try till you find something you really like. Plus all the japanese gizmos n stuff are well worth it |

Yeah, its all a bit off topic but I do get excited about the masks
I'll be sure to pop into Sasa (they seem to be everywhere!) and have a look. I've never heard of Kiss Me so I'll have to look out for it when I'm there.
And I do get amazed when I see all those Japanese facial products and devices---they seem to have everything for every part of the body e.g. massager for fat cheeks, peg for a taller nose. Even though they sound ridiculous I do enjoy browsing at that aisle |

Yeah-That peg for the nose is just SO hilarious i was going to get one once to wear round the house, just to freak my boyfriend out but eventually thought better of it,man it's gotta be painful!!! Why not go have some Restylane injections???
If you're in the Causeway Bay area check out the big Watsons at Jardine Crescent cos they've got lots of interesting bits there too |

It's definately painful...when I was a kid, I used to play around and clip some pegs around my face (thank god no damage now!) and it hurts!
Hmm, Causeway Bay , I hardly ever go there, no-one I know is familiar around that area, but I will def pop by, you make the Watsons sound like a palace!...Im set out to get some beauty bargains |

In the flight, before I go for sleep,I usually take off my makeup (if wearing any) and wash my face with soap and water. After I wash my face, I don't dry it. While I brush my teeth, the face dries. |
Just a word of warning for anyone here reading....I hope no one uses the water in the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth!!
I am a flight attendant (have been for 12 years now), and it is common knowledge now that most on-board washroom taps are contaminated with E.Coli.
I've flown almost every airline there is in my travels, and it almost always says "Do not drink from tap" above the sink, and that is why!! I never brush my teeth without a water bottle with me, and I would therefore not wash my face in that water either! Do bring along your own wipes if you're going to wash your face.
Great tips from everyone here, though.
But the best one from me is....wear sunscreen (with high UVA coverage) in flight (also on back of your hands, neck, etc), and put down your window shade. Keep your shoes on when you use the washroom, and bring hand sanitizer...planes are FILTHY.
A pashmina is also a great tip. Those airline blankets were never laundered properly anyway.
Also, bring a tiny pocket light; you have no idea how many times those reading light bulbs blow and it means you can't read throughout your flight in a dark cabin...very frustrating! |

OH MY GOD---steffers, is that realy true!?
I've always brushed my teeth and washed my face with the water in the bathrooms---how is it possible not to when I cant take more than 100ml bottled water? Are flight attendants exempt from this liquid restriction?
HannaLee---I think anything liquid counts---so that includes those tiny sample packs and toothpaste. |

Steffers, thank you so much for chime in with your insights, especially with the water warning. I did brush my teeth with on-flight tap water before, now I know better. |

yes, i'm sorry to report, that it is 100% true about the E.Coli and the taps. I would provide links to the appropriate documentation here, but i would be publicly outing my own airline.
After you pass through security, you can buy as much bottled water as you want in the departure gate area. You can also bring an empty container through security with you if you like, and fill it at a water fountain (I usually ask the Starbucks to fill my bottle when i order my coffee).
Please do listen to my warning...with all the viruses out there (bird flu, SARS, and whatever else), it's best to not take any chances.
The water from the taps in the galleys is safe to drink, so if the flight attendants serve you tap water, it's fine to drink. It is mostly from people touching the taps in the lavs that the taps get contamimnated. And it's not like the lavs get cleaned properly after every flight.
EW. Gross. I always catch people brushing their teeth in there, and I send them in with a glass of water.
Same thing with walking around barefoot. You DON'T want to do that either. And i won't go into the reasons why....
Sorry to hijack this post, let's keep the tips for skin on long flights coming. I can always use some new tricks myself.
Thanks! |

why do people brush their teeth during flights...?? i routinely take 12 hr flights and have always found the lavatories too repulsive to brush my teeth/wash my face in... i always just chew that gum that's supposed to have similar effect as brushing teeth (so it says on the package...) and wash up once i get to my destination, not on the plane.
i always end up super dehydrated on flights because im afraid of having to go to the bathroom... really i dont like the lavatories
im going to be on yet another across the world flight tomorrow and am thinking of just having my sunscreen and putting on a layer of dermalogica multivitamin recovery mask or something... |

I too work for an airline (in the office) and I have flown regularly (in all cabins) for the last 13years. I have been washing my face and brushing my teeth on longhaul flights and have not fallen ill so far. I know the toilet water is not be drunk but I have not yet heard about not washing your face. Why else do we have face wash/moisturisers in the premium cabins? I also have not heard about having different water supplies in the different cabins.
I do agree about wearing some sort of footwear when using the toilets (in my case it is usually socks).
After reading through all the comments, I would say to each their own. You have to do what you are comfortable with. Some things work better for some people while others work better for others. Just follow you senses.
YY, Hong Kong is great for shopping, food and drinking! Enjoy your trip and your flights. Hope all goes well. |
