Oil or massage cream is necessary, don't even try to apply massage without it - you skin will be irritated and red.
Take your time to read everything and to watch video before starting. |
Hi, Mirjana:
Thanks for your reply, my bad, I should have patiently read through the whole thread carefully first time around. |

In the other topic about this we discussed about applying massage more than once a day, or to increase number of repeating exercises (movements). So, be careful with that, because in this case also worth "less is more".
Good luck and enjoy |

Hi, Mirjana:
Glad to 'see' you again, what a early bird you are. Thanks for your reminding about 'less is more'...I do have a tendency to overdo things, I am reading the 'bone exercise' thread now and glad I did it, otherwise, I may do tanaka massage when ever I feel like to, which can really add up to too much ...
By the way, if you don't mind, what does 'NL' stand for? I know I must sound so stupid. |

NL - nasolabial folds, that's one beautiful area around nose and mouth which most of us here have problem with. You have whole topic about it. More than one |

Thanks, Mirjana:
I am having a big problem with this 'cute' NL too, it is actually a predominant feature of my face now, every time, I looked at the mirror, the first thing I see is these two BIG NL around my month, and there are two small ones forming too on my jar too....I am really praying hard that this Tanaka massage will work for me.
Good luck to you too |

I just wanted to mention that for a couple of days I stopped doing it, and after 2 days one of coworker though that I looked more "puffy" and tired.
I am trying to get back into my routine.
Just my 2 cents. |

I just did this with the video...but can anyone suggest a way to remember the steps when you are actually in the mirror without the video in front of you... |

Hi Casey
I set up a free standing mirror next to my computer and follow along. I enjoy being seated and relaxing while applying the massage. If you have such a mirror or can pick one up at your local drugstore, I highly recommend it. I still follow along with the video, but am getting close to having the steps memorized. Even when I get to the point I can do it without the video reminding me the routine, I will continue to do it seated in front of a mirror, just because I like it that way. I do mine once a day, in the morning over tea. It is a great way to flush out any morning puffiness and get my skin glowing. |

Wow! Thanks so much for that link Toby. I have done the massage watching the video on the computer and I can remember some of the 'moves' but am not always in front of the computer (just seems like it!)
I have bought the book from Amazon China (which was quite interesting to say the least as I am not Chinese) because I wanted to see the diagrams and it was very cheap. I probably don't need the book now as these instructions are great. Thanks again. |

Does anyone else find it easier to use the opposite hand when moving down the neck? When I use the left hand for the left side I'm not sure if I'm moving in the right place as my hand tends to come towards the centre on the neck. When I use the opposite hand I find it easier to move down the side of the neck. |

well, maybe you found it easier ...but - I think that Tanaka in DVD presentation recommends not to stop in the middle of each step but continue as a series of movement to the neck.
So if you going to finish each step by changing side to your hands you must stop movement which must glide in one move to the end (collar bone).
Hope that helps |

Well no, I was thinking of using the opposite hand all the way through. |

Oh - I just tried it, and it really can be done, but it is not so skilled to me, if you found it better - why not |

When I do it for my husband, I pretend I am professional and ask him to laid on the bed. I sit behind his head, I actually found it is not possible to do, so I ask him to sit on a chair (like the video), I stand behind him to massage for him, even harder.... |

How does your husband's face respond to the Tanaka massage? so this massage can be used for guys as well? |

I found it awkward at first and was wondering if the models had joints that allowed their hands to bend in ways that mine couldn't. I had the same thoughts about using the opposite hand, but that didn't feel right either. After about a week of copying the model, the same-side movement started to feel more natural, and I think (hope!) I am doing it correctly. |

O.K..I have been reading the threads new and old. I am A.American and I am looking for any suggestions on which I should go with. The lady with the black hat seems good, but some of her techniques seems like it would make the nose wider.I don't have a horribly big nose but I don't want it any bigger either. Any suggestions? |

Casey,
I don't have a large nose but a little wider than I would like and this massage has actually slimmed it down. |

Casey,
I am caucasian and like Toby, Tanaka's massage technique has resulted in a slimmer, more streamlined nose. I am happier with my nose than I have ever been. Prior to starting the massage, it has always been a bit wide and puffy looking to me, especially on either side of the bridge. I am absolutely loving the changes I have seen. |

I have a big nose, even bigger after trying a few months facial exercises. I won't claim Tanaka massage can slim my nose, but surely back to the original size. |
