Lotusesther, I'd really love to know what you're doing as well. I'm trying to learn all the secrets and apply them now so I can look youthful when I reach middle age. How about posting your pictures too mid 40's vs now? Except for celebrities not many women can claim they look good at 43. Please share your secrets. |
Hi,
I don't post pictures. And I don't look youthful. And I don't have any beauty secrets - I am discovering and trying out, and find tons of info here on EDS.
In the past I never really bothered with skin care. Just slapped on Revitalift in the morning, and that was it.
That seemed to be all right. I was happy, I was busy, I felt good, did nothing special. Now it's also a gene thing, my older sister didn't age until in her fifties (!) but she had a way more healthy life style than me.
So, some years ago a disaster happened in my life, and after the worst had settled I looked into the mirror and saw an 80 year old woman staring back at me. To say I freaked out is an understatement. It was devastating - I had survived but wasn't ME anymore.
What do I do when something bad happens? I start to look for things to DO. That is how I found EDS, only last year!, and was amazed and happy to find that a. other women had issues like mine too and b. you didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars (that I didn't have because in all the misery I lost my job as well) on promises, but could, for a much more reasonable amount, try to concoct an effective potion yourself.
So that is what I set out to do. My 'ACE gel' is a rip off mix between C-Esta by Marini and Environ, my daily moisturizer I finally dared to make is based on the lotion tutorial from SEA. I do Ageless and am very happy with that, and am test driving colostrum to see what that can do for me. I derma roll with a 0.5 mm (never would have THOUGHT I would ever do anything like THAT! First time I rolled I thought, girl, now you're officially desparate and crazy to use needles on your skin! But the research on it is sound, and no pain, no gain). That is about it. I started out looking 80, and now I am starting to look my age (50). My goal is, to look good for 50, not wrinkle free but healthy, glowing and without downturned mouth corners and such.
You are young. Enjoy that! And use sunscreen LOTS of it, and eat well! It's your health that shows through your skin, and even if later on you decide on things like fillers and tucks, the quality of your skin is the most important factor to make it look good and natural. I didn't and sooner or later you pay for that. I never used retin A (and suspect my skin as it is now would have a hard time with that) but I understand retin A can keep your skin looking young, maybe check that out. I am a repair job, you are - fortunately - still in the prevention stage. |

I started aging in my mid-40s and frankly, it scared the heck out of me. Admitting this is great, because the truth sets us free. |
I'm a lurker and learning a lot. I recall in another thread someone asking Barefootgirl about her skincare routine because she mentioned not really being bothered with it until her 40's and that it's never too late to start or something like that. I don't remember exactly what was said, but I don't think Barefootgirl ever answered or if she did I missed it. Sooo Barefootgirl, would you mind telling again what helps you the most with anti-aging. Would you post a before (mid 40's) and after (present) pic to go along with your advice?

Very good point! I think I do look good, but not now. So much sunscreen is on me and I don't they do good for our pores. Overall, I do; because I got help from my doctor.
I have no idea how to post photos here. I was never very good with technology.
Before being 30, and before I saw a dermatologist, my skin was very bad. It really affected my personal outlook of myself. Thanks to my doctor, my skin improved and I do feel better about it. I really don't have to wear foundation, but i think I am going through another stage with my skin and aging right now. |

I think Sharon Stone looks good in that photo, even with her expression. She just has some spots and looks a little bit tired is all.
Madonna has large veins--they were so prominent on her arms that for awhile she was covering them up. I also read its from her low body fat.
That woman sure has self discipline! So does Sharon Stone I heard.
You could not tell my age either, until I hit my late 40's. I still do not have lines, but my face is slipping down.
What I have noticed is these stars all have nice jawlines. I feel my world would be so much nicer, if I had one too!

Wow, thanks for the advice and encouragement Lotusesther. That's great you found things that work for you. What are the ingredients in your 'ACE gel'? Vitamin C? Do you think Vitamin C made the biggest difference in your improvement or dermarolling? You apply the ace gel after dermarolling? I've looked at vitamin c topicals, but wonder if fresh squeezed lemon would work just as well. |

I wonder what they do to keep their jawlines so sharp. And I doubt they do facial exercises... |

I understand even Helen Mirren has had a lower face lift. Though I do think that exercises, if kept up, can do a lot for your jaw line.
I notice a lot of women get a jutting chin, from a knd of fat deposit there and I suspect most stars have that sucked away.
Somehow it's not really fair to look at 'stars' as examples to age beautifully, not only do they have the best of surgery done but also they have an army of make up artists making them look their best. A while ago I saw a picture of Goldie Hawn without make up, and she was almost unrecognizable. Looked nice and lovely, but certainly not the Goldie we know. She could walk past you in the street and you wouldn't think for a moment it was her.
@ PaytonF: there's a recipe for ACE gel in the DIY section. There is no telling what did what as I have been experimenting frantically since last summer with all kinds of everything, but if you read up in the Environ thread you will find that vitamin A (I use it in the form of retinyl palmitate) is essential for the skin. |

I saw one Canadian actress in person once, and her skin looked gorgeous! Even much better than on photos.

I have seen lots of celebrities in person too. I used to live in an area where you saw at least one a week, and I grew up with a couple that later became celebrities.
There was one, a model that I saw who does look that great in person and without make-up. There was not only something about her face, but somehow, her energy was all expanded out, and alive. It made your head spin to look at it. I came to the conclusion, that it is this life energy that people are responding to more than just their physical appearance.
If these face exercises do not lift my jaw, I am at some point going to have mine lifted too. Not once have I seen someone posted in awlful plactic surgery photos, that had a botched jaw line. |

Through my blood test, it didn't show anything bad. He told me to eat fish with omega because that type of fat goes through the pores better. He put me on Retin-A, suggested a brand of sun protection that I no longer use now because years later, he said I need to step it up with the SPF. I don't have poreless skin, but better looking skin.
Every summer, I seem to get blackheads. I don't think the heat & sun protection agree with my skin. |

I'm not against any kind of invasive treatments. The reason why I would like a celebrity role model who ages completely naturally is because I know I will not ever get any kind of fillers, botox, lifts etc. and I need to know that as I age I can look good without any kind of facial intervention. It's not that I don't believe in them it's because I am too freakin scared to get anything done to my face. It's my nature. I don't like any kind of medical treatments and short of having to have one to save my life I know I will stay away from all of this stuff. I envy all of you brave ladies.
So far I see in the celebrity world that you can age beautifully with lots of help. I want to see aging celebrities who can look young and beautiful on their own because that's how I'm going to do it.
I wish I wasn't afraid of my own shadow, but unfortunately, I am. |

I don't think you will ever see that, leelee. The celebrities have to keep up their appearance; that is their job and honestly that is what the public wants. I think the best role model would be someone in our own real lives. Unfortunately in my real life, I don't see many aging well. We are all going to age - sag, wrinkle, etc. That is just a fact of life. All we can do is use topicals/gadgets to slow the process down (especially for those of us who won't/can't get anything done) and try to look the best we can at whatever decade we are in! |

The celeb cult has a bad influence in general imo with all the low cal dieting and stupid exercise regimens. I read yesterday that Jessica Biel eats animal protein "once in a while".

I think that Catherine Deneuve has aged really well, although I believe it has to do with her elegance as well as her facial features. |

I met Faye Dunaway in the '90s so I think she was in her fifties at the time. Gorgeous pale skin, flawless. I don't know if it was makeup or not. The makeup that I could see -- eyes and lips -- was very subtle and natural. She was in a white pantsuit with navy trim and looked so elegant and classy. Her hair was full, shiny and a natural looking blonde. She was very gracious as well. It's a shame some butcher got hold of her later.
Aging gracefully is in the hands of the right plastic surgeon. Two were mentioned in Makeup Wakeup by Sandy Linter, who looks gorgeous at 65. Deborah Harry, the same age, mentioned her doctor as well. The doctors are both on the east coast, I think.
Looking at Julianne Moore, you can tell she has botox because no one smiles at 50 with no crow's feet. She looks natural though otherwise.
Michelle Pfeiffer looks beautiful and natural but needs to gain three to five pounds because she is looking angular and bony. |
