My worst ingredient seems to be fragrance. Shock Which I've only recently learned! It really flares my rosacea.

Egyptiangoddess.....yes, fragrance is not good for the skin. I don't suffer from break outs but I will get some if I use an overly fragranced product. One of the worst that I have tried is Sothys. It is so heavily fragranced that I also had headaches and couldn't use any of the products I purchased.

Make that three of us, although for me it is only artificial fragrance (which most use) that cause me problems!

I have used some Valmont products that use Bulgarian Rose for their fragrance. I'm sure Bulgarian Rose is beautiful along with its accompanying fragrance but Valmont uses too much of it and their products give me a headache as well. The smell just stays with you all day. I spent about $250. for one of their creams and just abandoned it for this reason. I don't get it why skin care companies feel that their lotions and potions must be heavily fragranced Question

I totally agree leelee, I prefer un-fragranced skincare! If we want nice smells we can just use perfume or a EO blend!

In that case they would probably have to load their creams with farnesol to suppress any smell from the ingredients.
Fragrance isn't just added to make you smell nice, often it's to prevent you from smelling bad.

I don't think it's wise to overload a cream with a strong fragrance in order to mask it's bad odor. It just dosn't work. There is just so much fragrance that the nose can handle good or bad, in additon to being very irritating to sensitive skin.

I actually really enjoy how fragrance-free skin care products smell. I feel like it's more pampering whilst using due to my brain associating fragrance with perfume, not with skin care. If that makes sense. I really dislike feeling like I'm applying perfume to my face! I like the purer sense you get with fragrance-free products. Although I do enjoy things like a rose scent once in a while. But I hate artificial perfumey skin care products!

Ditto, I have no problems with fragrance free products, I prefer them in all honesty!

egyptiangoddess.....I couldn't agre with you more. Fragrance free creams have a nice "clean" smell to them (for lack of a better word.) It's a fresh smelling fragrance. Not heavy....a very light scent.

So no more lavender body butter before bed?...

Dr. J,

I know I don't really need to ask but I was wondering what you thought of Lancome's new cream. The magic ingredient is supposed to be rose stem cells (2 million of them in each jar of cream). http://www.lancome-usa.com/absolue-lextrait/absolue-lextrait,default,pg.html#/section/2/1

Do people really sit around in a meeting and think, what can we call this process, I know we'll call it Fermogenesis. They just make up a new word and trademark it! And, they have Julia Roberts as a spokesperson. $350 for 50 ml.

What do you think?!

I'm personally waiting for the Cannabis stem cell product in hopes that it will make the 60-70 hours I work a week more tolerable. I am not a smoker or into illegal things, so any other options are off the table. Very Happy

LOL. That depends on male and female plants for one thing, and hemp products sold have the THC removed so people don't use them to get high! Laughing

Well, I think that any kind of stem cells is what we will see down the road. The big thing before was apple stem cells. Now it's rose stem cells. Who knows which fruit or flower or even vegetable will become the next wave of stem cells.

From what I learned in Communications classes and advertising at university "they" add fragrance to skincare to make it seem more luxurious as many people associate very scented things with expensive.

Just like we also learned about how soap does n ot really need to foam a lot to clean and that was one of the marketing points for Ivory back in the day...to convince people you were cleaner if your soap product foamed a lot...and most people still beleive that today!

I actually prefer fragrance free face and body products as a lot of fragrance makes me itchy and I eventually get red spots on my skin...

The funny thing is it is so not a new concept, many rare orchids are reproduced using what has been called meristem cloning, basically creating many plants from just one cell of the growth tip! Something I read about 30 years ago! Smile

Julia Roberts
for
ABSOLUE
A philosophy of excellence.

Since its creation, Absolue has always extended well past any logical reason the limits of science and creativity to incarnate a quintessential and aristocratic femininity; one that is full of bull, malarkey and camel urine. More than sheer idiocy, this is an inspiring money maker for the most unbelievable marketing crockery in the World.

Nothing against Julia though, sure she made a boat load on that shoot.

So, back to the DMAE question...is it safe to use or not? Should I throw my 4% DMAE serum out? Does it really cause skin cell death?
