I do Tanaka 3X a week, sometimes 4 but strive to get in at least 3. It never ceases to amaze me how better your face looks. It is subtle but certain - fresher, more toned. What a great little trick when you need a quick spiff up! |

So Sister, so you think the results of Tanaka are only temporary? No cumulative effect? |

Couple of questions for all you Tanaka pros:
1. When do you do the massage? Morning of night? or does everybody do it twice a day?
2. What do you do after you finish the massage? Do you wash your face and apply something else (serum, lotion, cream), or do you leave whatever you used for massage to just soak into your skin?
Many thanks! R. |

Hi Rubby,
I massage either time (morning or night) and love it.
I use either Cera Ve cream which is so nice for this. Or I use a DIY OCM blend of jojoba and castor oil. When I use OCM it is at night and the massage is combined with cleansing. I always use a warm/hot washcloth to rinse off and open pores.
After the massage at night I then apply whatever the treatment is de jor - Retin-a or Vitamin C or AHA. I rotate these things. If I use an AHA or retin A I sometimes wait 30 minutes and put something else on top. My skin is oily so I don't dry out but Cera Ve has a nightime with niacinimide that I've been using some nights.
In the morning I'm all about Copper Peptides. Love them.
I do facial exercise (and rolling at times and a prolight red).
Tanaka massage is a good finish after all this other stuff!
Below are the videos - spoken in English. Very helpful.
Supposedly you will remove wrinkle and pouches if you do consistantly. There are before and afters of the lovely asian model at the last video. And even she looks refreshed.

Hi everyone. I have used the Elizabeth cream cleanser. It smells nice but is quite heavy and I think it leaves a film which I don't like because I think the serum and cream to follow can't penetrate as well. Her ceramide capsules might work well. Shiseido has a massage cream and they have a massage technique so their cream might be good but likely not for daily use as they talk about using it several times or once a week. I like the idea of using a light lotion/milky cleanser. It does feel good doing it, like you are being loving with your skin. |

Thank you so much Sister! These videos are so much better than the other link that only had written instructions.
I massaged this morning and saw immediate improvement - my face looked fresher. I will definitely continue with this.
Many thanks! R. |

I have been doing Tanaka twice a day. I have now moved on to using mainly camellia oil, with either jasmine, neroli or rose essential oil added into it. This suits my skin very well.
I find a micro-fibre cloth removes every last drop of the oil after the massage, allowing me to apply my special day or night products, which can then be absorbed by the skin instead of being blocked by the oil barrier. The micro-fibre cloth is simply from a pack of cheap ones bought from the supermarket for general household cleaning & used with warm water.
Occasionally I just leave the oil mix on overnight when I have finished, if I think I might do this then I mix the oil combos up, perhaps argan oil, or hemp seed, or rose hip with St John's wort oil plus a specific aromatherapy oil, carrot oil is a good base oil too. My mood can effect which I mix up & use also.My skin changes from day to day & therefore i will choose an aromatherapy oil plus base oil to my skin's needs that day.
Does anyone know if Tanaka is likely to have her book published in English?
The youtube videos are good, but I feel we are not getting all the real detail, also the Russian translation is pretty poor, you can get the gist in some parts but not others. I am a person who likes very precise details, I like to read in depth about a process too, & really understand, it is most frustrating that the translations are so "loose".
I would also like to add my thanks to Critic, she has been so generous sharing this wonderful & face changing massage method with us all here at EDS.It really is a remarkable & astonishing process.
I have done drawings with notes, collected from the videos, translations & various other internet sites. Whilst I feel I do know the routine I have been referring to these from time to time plus adding more detail as I find it for a particular move, this has drawn to my attention the importance of proceeding in a very precise manner for each move, applying pressure in some parts of a "glide" then slackening off in others is an example, there is a huge amount of info if you approach it by this method. However with the results I am getting, I must be doing the massage more or less correctly.
If anyone has found a very good diagrammatic plus instruction site online for the moves I would be delighted to receive a link, it can all be added to my notes. With all the notes & print-offs which I have accumulated, I will soon have a War & Peace sized tomb on Tanaka, although having read my way through this again last night, yet again I find detail I have missed & must remember to add in
Finally, it would be interesting to know how many people actually do the Tanaka massage twice daily? Critic, I think I am correct in assuming you are a twice a day Tanaka girl? |

Hi everyone,
I am not from an English speaking country, so sorry if I sound strange.
I have been doing the Tanaka for 1,5 months. Twice a day, for 3 minutes without oils. No breakouts. I am extremely happy with the results. Last week I had a meeting and 3 of my coworkers remarked I looked unusually good (I hate those remarks, as they make you realize how shitty you had looked before). Nevertheless Tanaka helped with NLs, jowls and a bit with forehead wrinkles. It really made a huge difference after long years of facial exercising. I actually press my bones more vigorously than the video shows, as I tend to believe in bone remodelling. If you want a youthful face you have to address all: skin, muscles and bones.
Does any of you know something about body bone massage by any chance? |

Sycamore,
Your English is just fine!
There was mention of a video for bone body massage some time ago but you would have to read this whole thread to find it. Hopefully the someone who mentioned it will reply to you.
Congratulations on your wonderful results with the massage! |

Thanks, great to hear that my grammar is ok.
I actually read the thread, but I missed that video somehow. I guess I will have to go through it one more time. |

Sycamore,
Wait before you do that! There are other threads that mention bone massage and I might have seen a bone body massage mentioned in one of those.
I'm sure if this was in this thread it would have gotten your attention.
You could try the search method at the top of this page. I did for awhile but with no success. I also googled videos on bone massage and that can take you to places you don't want to go.
Sorry, I wasn't much help.
Jan
Edited to add - Critic will be the person that might have information for you. |

Sycamore,
I found it in the thread bone facial exercise and it was Critic that mentioned it:
It even looks like it may be a Tanaka massage. Of course, it is in Japanese. |

Hello girls,
Yes, I am still doing Tanaka facial massage 2 times a day. I do the morning one after 30 mins exercise, I usually do it very gentle (too tired after exercise) under the shower and at the same time do the Tanaka body massage with shower gel. I don't see much changes on my body, but many people said I lost weight (again, stay the same weight).
I had dinner with 2 clients last night, I have not seen one of them for few months, the other one just had dinner with him in early April but both of them were asking if I have lost weight or am I exercising every day.
I am now worrying if 'loss weight' is a compliment? |

Just completed my 3rd morning of Tanaka massage. I follow the video that SisterSweets so kindly posted here, and it takes me full 10 minutes to do the whole thing. I know that the video goes a bit slower, as they are explaining the process and pausing between the exercises, but I still don't think you could do this in 3 minutes.
Anyway, I really enjoy Tanaka and I am sure I am seeing some nice changes in my face already. Fingers crossed this continues as my NL and ML are really, really bad . |

Thats always been my wish as well to have the full instructions in English. Its not that the video was bad, but I did tanaka at the start following the directions I was given, and just wish I had known that Critic is not an English Speaker as I really feel that a lot of the problems I encountered when I moved onto the bone stuff after Tanaka (after hearing how Critic spoke of them) could have been avoided if I had the real instructions in front of me rather than a translation of Critic's idea of the pictures and what they meant. This isn't to criticise Critic, as I realise I should have been more thorough in my questioning, but I really did not know and I never saw any mention of it anywhere up until that point.
I even ruptured a ligament in my chin and had to take antibiotics etc for a good few months and it took ages to heal up (which was such a shame as I think tanaka gave me such good results). I shouldn't have strayed from Tanaka really, but it was only because I heard the positive raves about the bone stuff that I got tempted. That being said, I'm loving FlexEffect's bone stuff. Thats all in English, and I'm seeing changes in my face doing the bone stuff already.

Yes. Tanaka massage is amazing!. This is the single best thing I have found for my face and skin, without doubt.
I have received more compliments in the last 6 months (since I started the massage) than in the last 6 years. Feels great, takes a few minutes a day....and I could go on and on. |

TheresaMary, I am assuming you have seen this series of videos (translated in English) that Sister posted few days ago, but I am posting the link again, as this is by far the best description of the Tanaka massage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrceQS7qdaI&feature=related
I do my massage using the Tanaka Part #2 & #3 videos where the model is doing her own massage (you will see the link on the right hand side of the screen). |

This is what I do too. Rubby you really can get it in well under 5 minutes. I'll have to time myself tomorrow when I do it again and see what it comes to be. It just takes a while to get up to speed and know the motions.
I'm so glad you like it - I do too. |

What I mean is that whilst its a full English translation of the video (which I have seen and am still grateful to EpicBeauty for doing as its literally an English translation of the original video), the actual book I understand contains a lot more information about the technique and thats the thing that I would love a translation of. I believe with the video, its very easy to make a mistake without realising, and this is why the dvd comes with the book, because it prevents people from doing so.

I have just completed my 5th massage (I only do it in the morning) - so far, so good! I actually do it using oil (alternate between emu oil and apricot kernel oil) and so far have not had any problems (I wash it all off with warm water as soon as I am done with the massage).
What I am starting to notice is that while I do the massage - my fingers hurt and actually feel a bit fatigued . Is this normal (or to be expected) or am I doing this wrong and applying too much pressure? I am a bit worried now that I am doing it wrong .
Any comments/advice from more experienced people would be greatly appreciated.
Thx! R. |

Hi Rubby,
it's normal, it is kind of tired after the massage.
A question for Sister Sweets:
Have you washed your face before using cleansing Oil to massage? I tried it last night, but I felt my face was so dirty because the cleansing oil mixed with my make-up, sweat etc... after working for one day. |

In the video and book, Tanaka has said we have to add strength and pressure in all steps, it is not a facial massage, but pay attention around your eye area, I usually do it very gently. |
