I've read that the Dr. Hauschka line does not recommend using a moisturizer at night because this prevents your natural oils from "taking over."

I was really surprised to hear this, because everywhere else the recommendation is that if you're going to use a moisturizer, definitely do it at night while your skin is repairing itself.

I'd be interested in knowing what others think and know about this. It seems like opinions would be pretty strong one way or the other-- either you think that you're prematurely aging your skin if you don't moisturize at night, or you think that you're harming your skin by preventing your natural oils from working. Or maybe I'm wrong and no one really cares? Anyway, I'd like to hear what others think. Thanks.

I have been foolowing the Dr Hauschka regime of cleansing, toning and no moisturiser in the evening and my skin has improved so much.
I used to wake up and feel the need to wash my face straight away as it was oily and my pores felt clogged.
It was strange getting used to it at first, I find the toner really helps as helps the skin return to a correct PH after cleansing, my skin will feel a little taut for about 10 mins or so but after that it feels normal.
In the morning my skin is just lovely, like I have already washed.
During the winter when I am going out into the cold then back indoors to central heating I do find that I need something extra. During this this time I just apply a few drops of Jojoba Oil as this is very light and regulates oil production.
If you do want a real treat then the Decleor Aromaessences are really nice.

I think that the Dr. H line utilizes lots of natural oils ... and you probably don't need to add additonal moisturizers because the products actually have enough in them.

However, when I first read this, I tried it for a few weeks ... and it was a disaster for me.

I do OCM ... and this has "normalized" my skin from oily to "normal" ... but with winter [and thus indoor heat] my skin became very very dry.

So ... I began again using a moisturizer at night [my own ... a combination of oils & eo's] ... and since then my skin has been much better.

I am of the firm opinion that one must do whatever it is that works for one's skin, whether it's products or regime. Having found that OCM and nightly moisturizing is what my skin needs at least during the winter months, that's what I'll stick with. In the summer, it could be a whole new ballgame ... but I'll deal with that in the summer time. Laughing

I'm sure that Dr. H's recommendations are with his own products in mind ... and not general advice.

Mary

i've been using the dr h products almost exclusively for 2 years and my skin has absolutely never looked better.
i was a little surprised at the beginning to not use a night moisturiser as i thought this was an absolute *must* but (and i have to admit that the first few days were uncomfortable and my skin felt like it was going to crack) after about 2 weeks my skin felt fantastic in the mornings instead of really oily as it had been when i was using my previous regime.
now i find that i really can't use a moisturiser at night without suffering from big time oilies in the morning - although i've recently started to use the PSF emergin-c serum at night and find my skin is absolute perfection in the mornings (which is amazing given there were days i didn't want to go to school as my spots were so bad).

SO, to cut a long story short, i'd give it a go, you won't be losing anything, particularly if you are using other dr h products!

hth,

Kiwigirl.

Every once in awhile, I wait 20 minutes to see how dry my skin gets. If it is dry, I put on moisterizer or in the summer when it is humid, I just put on my Sonya Dakar Omega 3 oil and eye cream. I need the eye cream because I suffer with allergies.

Hi gserchi Smile

I started on a Dr Haushcka skincare regime (inlcuding no moisturiser at night) in August last year, and my red, blotchy, sensitive skin improved dramatically. However, I must say that my skin became incredibly dry, and even though the dryness improved as my skin became used to not being moisturised at night, I still have dry skin, particularly my cheeks. I ended up switching from the Dr H day creams to Decleor Aromessence Rose D'Orient and Harmonie cream, which seems to have helped the dryness a little. I admit that I do use a couple of drops of the Rose D'Orient oil at night on the dry spots.

I have also started using the Pevonia exfoliating mask and a hydrating mask twice a week (on the recommendation of these excellent EDS forum members - thank you!), which has also helped.

I am determined to stick with no moisturiser at night, it feels like it's good for my skin somehow. Perhaps it's not for everyone, but I agree with Kiwigirl, it can't hurt to try and see if it agrees with your skin.

Cheers Smile

Yes, I agree, it does not hurt to try and maybe you need to use it depending on the season.
