By mid-day my face looks dry using my beloved mineral makeup. I know it is mainly because we are in the midst of winter, but can anyone suggest ways to keep my face look dewy all day while continuing to use my MMU.

HI Lori -
I run into the same problem as you do with the dryer skin in the winter.
Couple of things that have helped me -
1. Using a heavier moisturizer in the winter - my favorite is rosa y fruta's ambrosia cream. It keeps my face more hydrated and thus making my mmu stay nicer looking.
2. I will also at times use (and I think it was you who "enabled" me to try this ) is Serious Skin's Omega 3 serum - that really makes my skin stay soft and supple throughout the day.
3. Once to twice a week exfoliating (I've been using Olay's Regenerist microderm).
4. Carrying a hydrating spray with you in your pocketbook for hydration pick-me-ups! One of my favorites is Burt's Bees Nutritive Carrot Seed Mist. Very nice for dry, or dehydrated skin. Smells a little funky at first...but I'm used to it now. I'll spray it on at the office, or during the day when my skin is feeling dry. I notice it more if I haven't had enough of water during the day too, so I try to keep a bottle at the ready to make sure I'm getting enough H20.
What MMU are you using? I find that I don't get as dry with Aromaleigh's Glissade (made for dry skin) and Mineral Boutique's Veil It with Vitamin E added - that added vitamin E gives a real boost to the moisture of your skin. BareFaced Minerals also has a Vitamin E formula Mineral Makeup. Both have excellent customer service and a terrific color choice selection.

Hi Lori,
I too have run into this problem ... just this winter!
I "solved" the problem two ways. I use my own mix as a rich, hydrating moisturizer [applied to damp skin] AND I mixed some of my MMU foundation powder with an oil mix to make a "cream" foundation. You could, however, just mix the MMU with some of your moisturizer for the same effect. I just wanted to mix a bit up so that I'd have a little jar of it ... because I'm too lazy to make it up daily.
I just posted the recipes to both the moisturizer I make and the oil I mixed in with the MMU on the DIY thead, at the bottom of page 16, if you're interested.
I have never found a commercial moisturizer that I could use without breaking out ... so this is the reason I make my own. I've used it for several weeks now without a problem.
I find that the "cream" version of my MMU leaves my skin looking hydrated all day long ... without having to spritz. [I don't have a purse sized spritzer ... ] The staying power is just as good as the powder form ... possibly a little better ... and I can use MMU finishing powder over top if I want without it looking odd or making it appear dry.
I decided that after finding my "perfect" foundation colour ... I didn't want to begin ordering MMU from another company and have to go through that hassle again ... so decided it was better to make my Pure Luxe MMU work for me despite the current dryness I'm experiencing.
The moisturizer I make has ingredients that are helpful for "mature" skin [ie Rose Hip Seed oil for its anti-aging properties etc.] and it might be more than you need.
Some people mix their MMU with Aloe Vera gel [the cold pressed kind from the health food store] and find that gives them enough moisture. It wasn't enough for me I'm afraid.
Good luck

I believe Mabsy advocates using a facial spritz to “set” her mineral (powder) foundation after application and this helps keep her skin looking dewy. Personally, thanks to my grease-monkey face, I have just the opposite problem! |

Hi Carrie,
That's what I do as well ... use a moisturizing hydrosol to set my MMU. Up until very recently this worked really well ... however, something happened ... [and I suspect that it's because of having the heat on in the house] my skin became very dry ... and the MMU began to look very dry, and it settled into lines etc.
That's why I had to come up with a "winter alternative".
I still use the hydrosol as the final setting step ... but until my face becomes less dry [which will probably be when we turn off the furnace ... ] then I have to use my "MMU cream".
I figure that by late spring I'll be back to putting on my MMU just like a did before.

Can you recommend a good, hydrating mist to use to set my MMU?
I have been wanting to try the Caudalie Eau de Raisin. Do you think it would work for this?

I sprayed my face w/JI's mist afte I put on my MMU to set in the morning. And then 2x during the day. By 5:00pm my MMU are 90% GONE!!! If I don't spray during the day, I have about 50% left. So if you don't plan to re-apply or you want a good coverage then I don't think the mist a good idea. |

I've never had the experience that MACrisis has. Mine has always stayed put.
I use a rose hydrosol with about a tsp of vegetable glycerin in it for hydration. A couple of sprays and my makeup is "set".
I have re-sprayed during the day ... when I'm home and I want to be refreshed ... but my makeup has stayed put.
I've never tried the JI spritz though ...
