I'm sure you already know this but...I was complaining that the winter air was killing my skin lately and I was remembering how my skin gets so oily in the summer because of this Michigan humidity...so...I bought a humidifier and have been sleeping with it next to my bed for a week now and my skin is loving it. I add a couple drops of lavender oil in when I fill it and it goes all night. I thought I would pass it on becasue I know there are some northern folk in this forum.

When I was a kid, and living in Europe as opposed to the humid Australia I live in now Smile, my parents bought a humidifier to use during the winter months due to all the central heating. I just talked to my mother about this and she said that they bought it to relieve skin and nose dryness (as in, the inside of your nose feeling uncomfortably dry/tight) and that it worked well.

I always add essential oils to the heaters throughout the house during the winter months for the moods enhancing propetries.
Asda does a room fragrance oil called 'winter spices' that I can never get enough of.

Thank for the tip...winter spices! Sounds devine!

I bought it because no matter how much cream I used or water I drank I could not hydrate my skin...dry everywhere. It has helped.

Humidity is a great thing for keeping our skin moist and noses clear. Just make sure that you clean the humidifier out every other day or daily and wipe it with alcohol! Leave the alcohol on it until it dries. It takes at least 3 minutes for alcohol to kill bacteria on a surface. We stopped using humidified mist tents in the hospital for the children who get RSV because of the possibility of causing a secondary bacterial infection. We now use dry oxygen tents. Bacteria love warm moist dark environments and humidifiers are known harborers of bacteria that cause respiratory infections like influenza and pneumonia and streptococcus A (strep throat). I use a facial steamer myself and clean it with alcohol after each use. Just get a cotton pad saturated with isopropyl alcohol 70 or 99% and wipe it down. This is what we do in the hospital for those who have to have humidified nebulizer treatments. We wipe their masks and tubing with alcohol. Wink
