I'm wondering, if I get IPL treatment that is targeted for acne, will I also be receiving the anti-aging benefits?
I have acne and my skincare specialist has recommended IPL to treat it, but I am also concerned about aging/sun-damaged skin. I don't know if there are diffferent procedures for each condition, or if one procedure is just going to be a catch-all thing that helps a variety of my problems. Btw, if I sound uneducated about this, it's because I am!
The website she directed me to,www.radiancy.com, seems to divide the treatments into four categories: 1) acne, 2) skin rejuvenation, 3) rosacea, etc., 4) hair removal.
My question is, do I have to choose between the specific "acne" and "skin rejuvenation" treatments, or is IPL more general than that, and my sessions will be able help with both issues? (Obviously, that's what I'm hoping).
Anyone who is familiar with this treatment, I would love to hear from you. |

I have had 3 IPL (photofacials) and my SO has had 3 also but for rosacea, not acne. Now it does seem to temporarily tighten the skin and it does reverse some signs of skin damage (spots, etc.) but not a significant amount in 1 application. I will do several more as will my SO (he says when the memory of the pain fades, such a baby). We have both had the yag laser on specific veins and spots but that is to do a specific area in a spot treatment. I still have fine lines but the IS products are helping with that. There is thermage for tightening but I have also heard some negatives on that and have not tried it myself. |

Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with the acronym "IS"?
And has anyone out there done the IPL for either acne or anti-aging?
I basically want a procedure that would help with both, if I'm going to pay that much money. And if it's not going to benefit both, I'm not sure I want to fork over the cash! |

IS=IS Clinical, available from EDS. I read lots of horror stories regarding IPL so I decided not to get them. Was planning to get them to help fade some brown spots. |

Sorry, I did mean the IS Clinical line. There is an acid that can be applied on the skin at the same time as the IPL to force it deeper into the skin and give faster results of three IPL's. IPL's are antiaging in the way that it does improve collagen, reverse some sun damage and tighten up but it's not like facelift or threadlift tightening. Best to google photofacial and thermage, fraxel and IPL's and see what the descriptions are for each. Fraxel does a little more tightening I am told but I have not tried it yet. |

Well, I'm not looking for a face lift anyway, I don't have issues with sagging skin yet. I just have texture problems from sun damage and acne. Acne scars, fine lines, some scaly skin in areas -- on top of my active acne.
Do either of you have links to other sites that have more reviews / personal accounts about IPL? I know Mtview mentioned some "horror stories."
For some reason I'm having trouble finding a lot of info about this procedure on the Internet. I see a lot of marketing sites, like thewww.radiancy.com, which of course give only positive views. I've read a few abstracts from scientific journals, which seem to be fairly positive. But I'm having trouble finding first-hand accounts of it and I would love to read info from someone who's actually done it for anti-aging or acne...if not email them about their experience! |
