I tried this for the first time this morning. I still have probably two uses out of the sample I have so I will update this as I go but I thought I'd post my initial thoughts on it before I forget.

First of all, I have heard about this line before and I believe it was MACrisis that spiked my interest in it when she mentioned the "smart" exfoliator. That sounded good, despite the ridiculous description of this product:

Quote:
Automatically eliminates the potential for overdoing the exfoliation process (shuts off when uniform smoothness, brightness, and luminosity are achieved)

My skin must be crap then because my exfoliator never "shut off" this morning Rolling Eyes

Seriously though, it's a very fine grained scrub that at first reminded me of the Cellcosmet exfoliator (which I really liked). According to the instructions, you can use it on dry skin or damp skin. I decided to use it on damp skin this morning as this is more of what I am used to. Also according to the instructions, you are supposed to "massage into skin until all the exfoliants dissolve and you no longer feel crystals". See, this is where I encountered a problem. I only used a little bit of this and I kept massaging it in, waiting for the point where I no longer feel the crystals. I kept having to wet my hands because my face was getting dry - still nothing. In the end I got to the stage where I think some of the crystals had dissolved but I could still feel exfoliation going on and crystals were still there. I decided to stop at this stage, with my skin slightly more red in places, and rinse with cool water. I dried my face and didn't use any toner of moisturiser just so I can see if this is drying. I wasn't happy with the texture of my skin immediately after using this but after about ten minutes I touched it again and it feels smooth. My skin feels pretty comfortable and not tight at all, which is good given that as I mentioned I have not yet moisturised.

Overall, I think this is an ok scrub - it left my face smooth but not as smooth as it could be. I wouldn't recommend it for those with sensitive skin, and I certainly wouldn't recommend that you massage it in until the crystals dissolve. I will wait until I finish the whole sample before I pass my final judgement but at the moment it doesn't look like it will be added to my list of "must get" things *Amex sigh of relief sound*

The Smart Exfoliator is not just not so smart, IT'S STUPID!!! I got a sample from Sephora Sunday afternoon and tried it just now. As Mabsy said I could not get to the "you no longer feel the crystals" stage either. I stopped after about 2 minutes and rinsed my face with cold water. I GOT RASHES ALL OVER MY CHIN AND UNDER MY NOSE!!! I've never got any rashes from an exfoliator.

I'm sorry you ended up with a rash after this! Shock I didn't have that problem but I'm not particularly thrilled with the exfoliator (just double checked the price Smile). It'll be interesting to read reviews of this as more people try it. Still, I will use up the sample and see how I go...

Ok, one last update as I finished the (rather largish) sample today. I used it on DRY skin today as instructions said that you could do both. It was pretty good but felt a bit too rough that way. However, after I washed it off my skin felt nicer than when I used it on wet skin. Still, I would not buy this as it just didn't grab me and doesn't work as the instructions say it should. *BUT* I also gave some of this to my mum for her to try and she's reported back on it. She loves it! Go figure! She used it wet but she ignored the "massage till you don't feel the grains anymore" instructions, and gently massaged for a little while then rinsed off. She loved the fine grained texture of this and also commented that her skin was smooth afterwards. So, there you have it...

I've used this product for a couple of weeks. I'm still not sure. On one hand I liked it because the crystal texture was not too rough, which is a problem I've had with other exfoliators, and my skin did feel smooth afterwards and even the next morning.

On the other hand, it did not wow me so right now I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to send the tube back to Sephora or not.

By the way a couple of times that I've used it the crystals dissolved, but they have not dissolved a couple of times too. When they don't I just wash my face after a couple of minutes.

I tried this smart exfoliator again tonight. This time I wet my fingers more and the crystal thingy DID dissolved after about 1 minute. From past experience, I did not scrub as hard and no rashes on my chin. Laughing Laughing Laughing My face felt soft and nice this time. But as dede said, "DID NOT WOW ME."!!
