Anyone familiar with this procedure? I'm thinking of purchasing a series of 10 treatments for $750-supposed to reduce wrinkles dramatically & increase collagen production-an alternative to facelifts -so they say.
Anyone heard of this one?

Hi Maria,

I have never heard of this procedure ... but I'd be nervous about their opening statement:

Quote:
Scientists theorize that LED Photomodulation® uses low intensity light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in a process similar to plant photosynthesis whereby plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into cellular building blocks.

This suggests to me that there is no scientific evidence that it works. I could be wrong on that ... Very Happy ... it's happened before ... but it would make me very nervous of forking out $750 for a series of procedures. Laughing On the other hand, I'm the frugal type ... and would hesitate to fork out that kind of money for anything that wasn't 100% guaranteed. Laughing

If I were you, I'd email the company and ask to see any scientific abstracts that show that the LED does anything at all to benefit the skin. If they can't point you towards at least one such abstract, I'd pass on the treatments.

I suspect that the "science" in the company name is a marketing ploy to make you think that it's more than pseudo-science.

Just my thoughts ...

Mary

Actually there is a great deal of scientific evidence to back up their claims. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it replaces a facelift.

My sister underwent Thermage first and then a series of 5 weekly microdermabrasions followed by Gentle Waves. The result was definitely significant. Her pore size was reduced, her skin tone more even, and I think there was some smoothing (she isn't that old, but she has very bad sun damage). The overall improvement was very noticeable but I wouldn't equate it with a facelift.

Thanks for your input!
What the different websites say is for someone without a great deal of sagging, or wrinkles, it can delay the need for the more invasive procedure of a S-lift, or facelift-I reread my earlier post & realized how it sounded-not a replacement, as much as a postponement-for the right candidate.
Thanks for the info!

Hi. I bought a package of 8 Gentle Waves & saw no results. I've had foto facials & seen great improvement. I really wanted the Gentle Waves to work.

Katee-did your sister experience any fat loss with the Thermage?

None at all. She was delighted with her results. I don't need it, but if and when I do, I won't hesitate!

I have heard of LED treatments in a professional setting but would be pretty timid about trying one you buy for yourself... or did you mean you bought a series of treatment sessions at a doctor's office?
