Hi!
Since summer's around the corner (for eastern Canada at least...) I would love to get suggestions on which one to try next. I have very pale skin and don't really intend to tan a lot. Its more for protection and prevention... and maybe a little something more?? (vit. C, firming... )
Any ideas?
Thanks! |

I'd go for a simple SPF 15 or 30 sunscreen. No need for added benefits like vitamin c because you can make those yourself!
The thing is to look for sunscreen that provide complete protection. "The only beneficial difference to look for is UVA protection with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, since these are less irritating than avobenzone to children's skin." More on that from http://www.consumersearch.com/www/family/sunscreen/fullstory.html |

I'm a big fan of Clinique's Active White Lab Super City Sunblock (which I used to get atwww.gloss.com)but now I am trying their new SCB SPF 40 which you can get at most department stores. During the summer months and on days when I'm outside alot I use a product with Meroxyl made by Vichy (forget the exact name). It's a gel/cream sunscreen and really helps to block out both UVA/UVB rays. I found this atwww.physea.com

My fav sunscreen is from Mary Kay. It is the one my friends and I all use for a couple reasons, one is because it is approved from the Skin Cancer Foundation, the bottle actually carries the seal of approval, it moisturizes the skin and works better than other brands having a higher spf. I am truly impressed by this product and am glad I found it. My baby was burned badly (2nd degree) on her arms, head, ear, neck, hand, etc and I have to take major precautions to keep her skin cancer free in those higher risk areas. I am confident that this sunscreen will exceed my needs. My best friend's sister has had melanoma and was using an spf product that was much higher, 90 in fact. Spf 90, can you imagine?! She still burned, but when she used the Mary Kay stuff with an spf 30 she did not! I was sold. Then my other dear friend with diabetes (I do not know if it is common for diabetics to burn easier, but she said she has to be really careful) went to the lake and forgot to reapply her Mary Kay stuff and barely got pink after hours in the sun and in and out of the water. I personally do not recommend going without reapplying but she had really good results. So, if you can find it you might give it a go. Here in the US it runs about $9.50 I think but I buy it because it works, and I do not want to have, or my family for that matter, melanoma. |

I used a Shiseido sunscreen on vacation and loved it. I'm going to head over to a Shiseido counter this weekend to check out their other sunscreen products.... I just realized that the sample of face bronzer that they gave me had SPF 17, so it might be a nice three-way product for the summer - protection, moisture, and glow. Wonder if they have a body product with the same properties - sunscreen plus bronzer. The face bronzer gave me a really natural glow. I also love the SPF 36 lip balm I bought. I'll keep you posted on what I find! |

Oh! Please do! The bronzer with SPF sounds awesome. NOT that I need another product right now.
By the way, I finally received my LRP Anthelios XL FE 60 and although I like the way it applied and so far it gives less shine (but not NO shine) than my Neutrogena DryTouch, the bottle I purchased is TINY! When I say tiny I mean it fits in the palm of my hand and is less than half the size of most travel bottles I use. I paid almost $30 for that? Maybe I just got duped but if this is the going price then I think I'll have to find something else for my face. I'm going to check around first to make sure the price for the amount was right. |

First day of use with the Juice Beauty tinted moisturiser spf30 So we'll see how it goes with breakouts etc. The only time I really sit out in the sun is on holiday so I can't say it will go till august
Avene spf50 comes highly thought of and I've used that in the summer but it is quite thick and not everyone likes that feel. |

Eve - Did you buy the entire product or just the trial kit? I'm not sure what I think of it yet either. I didn't break out from the sunscreen but the night after using their cleanser and serum I had two tiny whiteheads. I'm not quite sure what to think of that yet since I haven't had any additionals ones since. |

I just learned that now that Filenes is Macy's, it looks like they've discontinued some of Filene's lines, like Shiseido. I don't think there's any other store around here that carries Shiseido. Wanted to use a tester for a body product first....

My favorite sunscreen, to use on my face anyway, is Neutrogena Dry Touch. I have super-oily skin and this is the one product I've found that doesn't exacerbate my problem. I've used more expensive stuff that you can only buy from a consultant or online, and it made my face an oilslick. Neutrogena doesn't. The best part is that I can find it at Wal-Mart!
I know this one comes in a high SPF . . . can't remember if it's 30 or 45? But I have skin that burns easily too and this protects me well. |

I'm in sure of a good sunscreen as well. I have a lot of sensitivities to sunscreens. I would like something that I can wear everday but also another one that is waterproof. Any suggestions? |

I love LRP spf30. A bit shiny but easy to remove. |

I found a wonderful organic/natural sunblock called PHYT's 40 SPF. It's formulated with 98% organic plant ingredients and it's very effective. This might work out for you if you have sensitivities to conventional sunblocks. I found it by accident while traveling through France last year. I believe you can find it online in the US also. Good luck. |

I switch between Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion (good physical protection) and DHC's White Sunscreen (slightly better protection against UVB rays + alpha arbutin for brightening up your complexion). I also use La Roche Posay Anthelios Extreme (Euro version) around my eyes only since it makes my combination skin really shiny and it's also very expensive and hard to get in the States.
I would use the DHC exclusively, as the texture is much nicer, but it's so expensive at around $28 (including the $5 shipping charge) for 1 ounce! The Shiseido, on the other hand, can be had for around $36 for 3.3 oz. |
