I was wondering if anyone who knows a bit about sunscreen knows whether this vichy sunscreen with mexoryl in it is okay to wear with mineral makeup?I couldnt remember the name of avobenzone(is there a couple of different names for this?)anyway I'm not sure if it is in this
Ingrediants are
It's a fundamental advance in sun protection:
Wide-spectrum filters, photo stable, patented anti-UVA and anti-UVB rays.
- Multivitamin E, an anti-oxidant complex to neutralize free radicals
generated in the skin by UVA rays.
- Vichy Thermal Spa Water with anti-irritant and soothing properties
Ingredients: Aqua, cyclopentasloxane, isononyl, isononanoate, octocylene,
alcohol denat, dicaprypyl carbonate, cycloexasliloxane, glycerin, titanium
dioxide, butyl methoxydibenzoyl, methane, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol
methoxyphenyl, triazine, dimethicone, propylene glycol, PEG-30
dipolyhydroxystearate, silica, nylon-12, polymethylsilsequioxane,
drometrizole, trisloxane, ethylhexyl triazone, isobutylparaben, glycine
soja, soybean oil, rerephthalydene, dicamphor sulfonic acid,
triethanolamine, methylparaben,,diphenyl dimethicone, alumnia,
phenoxyethanol, tocophenol, propyparaben, lauryl PEG/PPG 18/18 meticone,
pentasodium ethylene-diamine tetramethylenephosphonate, eyhylparaben,
butylparaben

Hi!
My understanding was that Mexoryl is not stable when exposed to minerals/metals - you can over come it by dusting a cornstarch based powder on over the sunscreen before you apply the minerals. (Jurlique silk dust is a nice one and doesn't effect the finish). Do a search for sunscreens - there's loads on this - or PM BadBird = she seems to know her stuff on sunscreen stability!!

Someone told me on MUA that if you wait 20m after applying sunscreen you shouldnt need to worry so much.If the sunscreens been absorbed and your only using mineral makeup which only sits on the surface then there's only a small chance that your make up will interfere with your sunscreen.
Though I'm only going by what i was told so dont take it as gospel 
I dont really know what to think.Our skin fights of free radicals everyday anyway. I just dab a little concealor on blemishes when i use LRP so I doubt its doing too much harm,its not like I'm covering my whole face in makeup.
I did hear too that you can use cornstarch before putting on your make up to create a barrier, i just find cornstarch a bit drying and i use liquid makeup so it probably wouldnt work |

Its actually the avobenzone that gets degraded by minerals not the mexoryl |

I started to use Vicky sunscreen and I really like it.
I use pressed powder after the sunscreen and it looks totally ok.
However, I know that ingredience such as talc in press poweder can casue problem with the chemical filters.
Do you know any press powders that are compatable with the chemical sunscreens? |

| I'd just look for a sunscreen without avobenzone as this seems to be the chenical ingrediant that causes problems. |

CAROLB69, I think you are right. I should look for sunscreen without Parasol (avobenzone).
I am going to Europe shortly so I am sure I will find something.
Do you know if I can apply foundation and other make-up on sunscreen without avobenzone? Do you think it will be ok?
I use Retin A and I will be in hot Spain so I must make sure that the sunscreen will be working.
What do you think? thanks  |

Yes you can apply makeup over sunscreen that dosent have avobenzone.Have you tried avene with tinosorb? Their line dosent have avobenzone but the spf50 spray I've got is a bit shiny and my makeup dosent look good over it.  So hard to find the perfect sunscreen...Seeing as you use retin a, you really need a good sunscreen. Maybe try some avene ones or ask the girls here on the boards if they can rec an avene one that feels nice on the skin as it is a good line for sun protection.
I also have shiseido 55 cream but I dont think the protection is as good(PPD of about 10, the avene spray is about PPD 20 i think-not as high as LRP but still good)

P.s mexoryls really are great uva protectors but avobenzone seems to be included in with it for some reason |
